I've organized and hosted 7 yoga retreats in the past 10 years and Iguana Lodge has been without a doubt my favorite. I was there in 2007 and 2008 (before the "and spa") and it was fabulous then, but since the addition of pool, spa and yoga deck it is even more amazing. I can't say enough about the OUTSTANDING food, clean, comfortable and varied accommodations, and location, location, location. Having the sandy beach so accessible is wonderful, with the refreshing pool a bonus. There can be quite a bit of surf so for non-swimmers or for those just wishing to relax in the water, the pool is great. The view from the second floor yoga deck is a treat, and the props are complete and all in good clean condition. As a retreat leader, all you really need to do is show up and teach, the staff is there to do the rest (above and beyond.. read on). There is also a beach deck closer to the water which we used for afternoon sessions just for variety. Another great thing about the property is that there are plenty of beautiful spaces to spread out for personal and private time, but also lovely group areas for retreat participants to meet and socialize. The option of 1/2 day and full day excursions from the lodge is extensive, and again the staff will take care of all your participants desires and needs. Just be aware that most of the excursions leave in the early mornings when we typically practice yoga, so participants should be prepared to miss yoga or to consider scheduling extra days if they plan on doing a lot of sightseeing. Iguana Lodge is fortunate to have wild life all around, so you don't have to leave the property to experience the Osa, The town of Puerto Jimenez is only 5 minutes away and you can easily experience the culture of Costa Rica by spending a few hours there. All this being said, the VERY BEST part of Iguana Lodge is Toby and Lauren (owners) and staff who they refer to as the Iguana Lodge family. From the minute you arrive you feel taken care of and staff is available and eager to help with whatever you need. Last March we had an interesting experience where a volcano erupted in San Jose the day before we (18 of us) were scheduled to leave. With the airport closed, all our flights were cancelled and we were not able to reschedule for 3 to 4 days. Lauren and crew immediately kicked into high gear to change our regional flights, schedule private charters and work on accommodations. The first night we were fine because no new guests could arrive, but as the airport opened and new guests arrived we had singles become doubles and doubles became quads. Beds seemed to magically appear and everyone was happy. As a retreat leader, this could have been a nightmare for me but instead I was able to enjoy a couple extra days of vacation! Days start early in the jungle (5 to 6 am) so plan on being in bed by 9 or 10 p.m Waking up to the howler monkeys and the sunrise over the gulf is a special treat. There is nothing fancy about the Iguana Lodge which is one of the things that make it so special. Dinner is served in the upstairs of the main "rancho" by candlelight family style where everyone can meet and talk about how good life is. Breakfast is downstairs on the deck and cooked to order if so desired. Fresh fruit and homemade yogurt and granola are personal favorites. Getting to the Osa Peninsula can be a challenge (you have to arrive in San Jose no later than 1:30 p.m to customs and make a same day connection on a regional flight) but it is totally worth it. I've done the trip 4 times and easily made the connection each time, though some have been delayed it is easy to stay overnight in San Jose if necessary. Thank you Lauren and Toby for creating such a magical place to experience Pura Vida!

Iguana Lodge is amazing, beautiful, serene, its everything you want as you get away. For me, I love nature and I love beauty and there is an abundance of both at Iguana. You are surrounded by both nature and its stunning beauty, with monkeys being silly in the tree tops to scarlet macaws flying by overhead. The beach is about a 5 second walk and if you are an active person like myself, a gorgeous run down a dirt road awaits you every morning. The food is superb, so get your appetite ready. Everyone is very friendly, very helpful, and contributes towards the family environment that Toby and Lauren have created. I have brought 2 retreats there and will continue to bring people there as I have never heard a single complaint. :) Melinda Abbott, Yoga Instructor melindababbott.com

THIS PLACE! I led two yoga retreats here (so far). Having never seen the lodge in person, I was a bit nervous the first year bringing down a large group of yogis. But we were all so pleasantly surprised! The food is AMAZING- every bit of it. Fresh, healthy, delicious. The chef is a magician. Toby and Lauren are amazing hosts- so laid back but attentive, and their staff is attentive and friendly. The rooms are beautiful- sleeping to the sounds of the ocean. The beach is gorgeous- and secluded! There aren't many resorts around so some days it feels like you have the beach all to yourself. Laying in a shaded hammock on the beach? Great place to lead a retreat- two open air yoga studios. Oh and Tracy! The masseuse is incredible! Highly recommend as a retreat space or as a quiet vacation spot.

Iguana Lodge is a little piece of heaven on earth. I have been to four retreats there with different teachers (planned two and helped with planning one) and have loved Iguana every time. The owners, Toby and Lauren are expats who are knowledgeable, helpful, and so much fun. Lauren is a yoga teacher herself and really understands how retreats work. Toby, Lauren, and their staff make planning retreats effortless, and execution flawless. They have two yoga decks, a spa, a pool, and are steps from a beautiful beach. Whether you want to practice yoga and relax all day, or spend your free time hiking in the rain forest, surfing, stand up paddle boarding, zip lining, etc., it's all at your fingertips. The staff couldn't be nicer or more welcoming... AND THE FOOD!!! Iguana is the perfect place to have your next retreat…one problem, you won't want to have a retreat anywhere else!!
