A true spiritual pilgrimage to one of the most sacred areas on Earth

Mount Kailash is considered to be the most revered mountain in four different religions, Buddhism, Bon, Hinduism and Jainism. Its depicted in thousands of thangkas, murals and illustrations around the world, all with complete veneration. The waters running from the surrounding valleys feed many of the spiritual rivers in Asia including the Indus, Brahmaputra and Ganges rivers.

Its spiritual significance crosses each of these belief systems with major mystical stories centered here in all of them, whether the mountain is known as the seat of Lord Shiva and his wife Parvati, or as Sumeru the center of the universe, or the home of the Buddha of Supreme Bliss or the seat of all spiritual power, it is a mountain that seems to draw your attention to it and you feel that it’s very special in ways that are hard to describe.

This tour is a true spiritual kora, one where we will circumambulate clockwise around the base of the mountain, a pilgrimage of about 32 miles (52 kilometers) that will take us three days with the majestic mountain always on our right.

The Mysterious Kingdom of Guge

We will start the journey first of all by acclimatizing to the altitudes by spending a few days exploring a very special part of western Tibet, Tsaparang, the ancient capital of the Guge Kingdom.

Tsaparang is known by some to be the historical legend of Shangri-La being the city you would arrive at after using the western pass over the Himalayan Mountains from Leh-Ladakh in India.

Here in the Garuda Valley, perched on a pyramid shaped rock lies the ruins of this great fortress city. We will explore its caves, tunnels and rooms all carved from the solid rock as well as the surrounding monasteries, temples and myriad of prayer points.

Manasarovar, A Lake Created from the Mind of Lord Brahma

We will also spend time at Mansarovar Lake, which like Mount Kailash has major spiritual significance in Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism and Bon. The mythology about this lake from each of these belief systems is as rich and pure as its freshwaters. According to the Hinduism, the lake was first created in the mind of Brahma after which it manifested on Earth.

Dotted with prayer points and meditation spaces we will connect with the energy of this lake before heading to Mount Kailash.

This tour of Mount Kailash and the Guge Kingdom can only be purchased as an extension to our Nepal - Tibet Tour.

These two tours are designed to dovetail smoothly together if you are looking to really explore the wonders of Tibet.  We invite you to join us for a pilgrimage of epic proportions that tests your mind, body, emotions and spirit.  Let's see what you are capable of!
