Blue Morpho is all about your evolution, growth and transformation. As one of the most longstanding, highly renowned shamanism centers in the Amazon jungle, our ayahuasca workshops and plant medicine retreats are designed to help participants achieve personal and spiritual transformation through Ayahuasca shamanism, mystical exploration, and personal experience.

Featured in the well-known National Geographic article by Kira Salak, Blue Morpho continues to strive for excellence to be the best shamanism retreat center in the Peruvian Amazon. With over 1,500 satisfied guests and 12+ years of professional shamanism, it is our mission to guide, support and help you overcome the life challenges you face.

The Sanango Dieta is a Pinnacle Experience of Amazonian Shamanism

Sanango's medicine is a very high-vibration, powerful spirit that moves to straighten your energy from your innermost core outward. It reaches into the deepest parts of your psyche, body and emotions and helps to bring resolution to whatever may be preventing you from living a life that is based in your core integriImage titlety. This is one of its main teachings: integrity that is truly yours, from your heart and your essence. During the workshop we will explore what this means in the context of your life and how to integrate what you've learned into direct and meaningful changes in your life. The end result of this process is deep personal transformation, spiritual growth, and a cleansed and renewed spirit ready to embody life.

As part of Blue Morpho's unique approach, we offer transformational experiences that are rooted in Amazonian plant spirit medicine. The Sanango Dieta is a unique and powerful way to deepen your exploration of not only Amazonian shamanism and your relationship to the plant medicines, but a committed way of exploring yourself and the changes you want to make that are real, lasting and impactful for you.

Sanango diets are offered to guests who have completed at least one ayahuasca tour with Blue Morpho.

The Physical Dieta

The physical dieta consists of drinking the inner bark of the roots of the Sanango tree for three consecutive nights followed by another four days of traditional dieta. The Sanango-infused solution is made by adding water to the roots and allowing them to sit for several hours. That solution is filtered through cheesecloth and is consumed at 3:00 a.m. The drink is hot and spicy and can cause vomiting and diarrhea. Around 20 to 30 minutes after ingesting Sanango the visionary effects begin. The journey lasts up to 5 hours with mild visions and very strong corporal sensations. Some people express difficulty with seeing straight and with equilibrium the day after the Sanango ceremony. It is also common to experience a very high-vibration buzzing coursing through your body. All of these effects are ways the Sanango medicine does its work.

The Lake

During the workshop we explore the traditional jungle practices of the sacred visionary plant ayahuasca and Sanango dietas in the form of shamanic medicine ceremonies that are founded in universal spiritual understanding. We also incorporate modern shamanic practices (based in Modern Shamanism) and philosophy of consciousness (called CIBEC). This powerful combination allows us to bridge the gap between traditional knowledge and the modern world, offering participants a unique, lucid and transformational experience unlike any other.

The Commitment

Traditionally, the sanango dieta is only taken on by a shaman, shamanic apprentice, or as a part of certain types of healing. We suggest this dieta for people who are very interested in deep transformation through the practice of Amazonian shamanism. This requires the full commitment on the part of the dieter. One of the most significant elements of the dieta experience is maintaining the 30 day and 6 month restrictions following your time here at Blue Morpho. This part of the journey is fundamental to allowing the plant spirits and their medicine to fully integrate into your body, mind and spirit. Your learning will continue during this time, and far beyond it. This is truly a remarkable, life-changing experience.

Accommodations

The Blue Morpho jumgle camp is located about 52 Km outside the city of Iquitos. This purpose-built jungle retreat center sits on 180 acres of private reserve, nestled in between beautiful flora and gardens. Blue Morpho’s jungle camp is an intimate setting where we host medicinal plant dietas and small group ayahuasca workshops.

Meals

Due to the nature of Sanango, the dieta meal is very bland yet clean: one type of small river fish, green plantains and a manioc-based drink called fariña. Meals are served three times per day. When the Sanango diet is broken, we will resume eating regular meals that are suitable for the subsequent ayahuasca ceremonies.
