12 day NOYA RAO and Ayahuasca Silent retreat
- AYA Healing Retreats
- Dec 17, 2017 - Dec 28, 2017 (12 days)
Our chaotic lives are often characterized by the absence of silence and can be devoid of intentional space for reflection and contemplation. Getting out of the city, traveling deep into the bush or forest can be a rare encounter that brings us briefly, face to face with natures silence and with the subtleties of our inner worlds. Often when we simply listen to our thoughts and to the sensations within we encounter strange and uncomfortable feelings. It can be difficult to simply be with what is and to not seek temporary distraction from technology, social media and from routine busyness. Silence is confronting, yet it may hold the potential to heal old wounds and heighten our intuitive capacities in ways we never could have imagined. Befriending silence has the power to transform our lives; lives that we may have spent careful time curating to avoid silence at all cost.
Silent has therefore never been rarer, nor has it been more important.
Our silent retreat is designed to gently confront you with your own silences and the thoughts and sensations within that need your attention in order for you to heal and to begin experiencing the world anew.
What is the Noya Roa dieta Silent Retreat?
The Noya Roa dieta silent retreat is similar and yet very unlike our standard 12-day retreat at the Sui Sui centre. It is a 12-day immersive journey into silence. You will be asked to refrain from speaking from the morning of the second day of retreat until the morning before our last day. The retreat will involve a Master Plant Dieta on the sacred Noya Roa tree, as well as 6 Ayahuasca ceremonies. You will also have the opportunity to participate in one to one consultations with our Shipibo curandera Maestra Juana each day of the retreat to seek spiritual guidance as you journey with the sacred plant medicines. Participants are also encouraged to participate in sound healing and Kirtan workshops as optional activities.
Your Noya Rao Retreat Facilitator
Maestra Juana will be your facilitator for the Noya Rao silent retreat. Juana is 60 years old and was born into one of the most respected and powerful healing lineages of the Shipibo tradition. She has dedicated her life to the sacred healing traditions of her people and has been studying as a maestra for more than 30 years. She has dieted extensively on Noya Rao and has expert knowledge of the body and the processes one undergoes when dieting on this mythical master plant.
Maestra Juana is also a bone doctor and specializes in massage and bone setting. She will be available to provide participants with a rare opportunity to receive a bone massage whilst on retreat.
It is a privilege to have such an experienced, passionate wise elder to share her expertise and childlike sense of aliveness with us on retreat.
Noya Roa and Sound
Noya Rao which is otherwise known as “The Tree of Life” or “Camino a la Verdad” (The Path of Truth) is a mythical plant, of which there are only three in the entire Amazon Basin. Noya Rao has belonged to and been used in sacred ceremony by the Mahua Shipibo traditions for centuries. Noya Roa is known for its capacity to activate intuition in the dietero(a), promote mental clarity and to increase one’s capacity for organized thought. Coupling a Master Plant Dieta with silence heightens Noya Rao’s capacity to promote profound healing and to reveal important insights to the dietero (a).
Silence alone enables us to become aware of subtle sensations, thoughts, feelings and messages within; taking time to simply be with oneself without distraction and mindless chatter can help us to become aware of that within us that needs to be let go of, or embraced. In short, silence on its own enables us to glimpse wounds that need our attention and to contemplate what we want from our lives. Noya Rao is therefore the perfect companion for silence as it accelerates this process of connection and recognition of the wounds within that need transmutation, whilst giving the dietro(a) the courage needed to make positive changes in their behaviour and to let go of their limiting beliefs.
Will there be time to share?
Yes. Whilst on retreat, you will be able to share your thoughts, feelings and experiences with the AHR facilitators and the other retreat participants when we have dedicated circle discussion the morning after each Ayahuasca ceremony. These circle discussions are invaluable in helping you to process your experiences of Ayahusaca and Noya Rao. We therefore strongly encourage all participants to attend and to share honestly.
There will also be dedicated time set aside on each day of the retreat for you to speak individually with one of our experienced facilitators. It’s important to note that this is not a therapy session, but rather an opportunity for you to talk through your experience of the sacred plant medicines. We find that these sessions often help participants to gain the clarity necessary to recognise what needs to be let go of and the courage to leave behind what’s no longer serving them.
Am I expected to refrain from communicating via phone, text and email for the duration of the retreat?
Yes. You are expected to refrain from using your mobile phone to text, call, email and access social media apps for the duration for the retreat. We encourage all participants to take care of all urgent matters prior to commencing their retreat. You will be expected to abstain from using your devices from the second day of retreat until the morning of the final day.
