Santiago Ayala

Born in Quito, 1966, Santiago has been in contact with the indigenous world since his early life in the rainforest of Ecuador. He has lived with the Kichwa, Secoya, Cofan and Huaorani tribes. His shamanistic journey began at the age of 26, following a serious illness.

He has been a resident of the Vilcabamba Valley, along with his family, going on 12 years now and has become quite famous and well respected all over Ecuador for his work in shamanism. He has worked in indigenous communities all over Ecuador and Europe with different power plants. He works with the Andean American tradition, and with magical plants from our earth, focusing upon the different subtle planes of matter and consciousness. He is a maestro of the San Pedro cactus, as well as Guardian of the sacred instruments in the old American ancient tradition.

Goldsmith by profession, Santiago works with fire, metals, stones, shells and seeds, as he artistically rescues the magical dimension of our pre-Columbian past.

Something we love about Santiago is that is is so sweet, runs his ceremonies with the utmost of wisdom and love, and knows intuitively just what each individual participant needs and must hear. His life purpose part of the ceremony for each individual is indeed life changing!

A gifted, smart and serious Shaman that will help guide and protect you

Santiago, upon first meeting, seems a bit serious and solemn to most of us westerners. He takes his work with the sacred San Pedro medicine very seriously. In addition to growing his own plants and making an incredible brew for the retreat guests, Santiago pours his heart and soul into each ceremony. You get to spend personal healing time in front of him and in front of the fire on his real Jaguar skin (it was given to him as a gift when he was younger). The lessons he teaches are simply mind-blowing. It seems as if he's channeling the great Grandfather spirit of the plant and teaching its life lessons to us all. You realize that when the medicine is this strong, you will want a strong leader there with you to control the spirits. Santiago is solid, strong and powerful. You can tell he has been a shaman for many, many years. One of the best things about him is that he struggled with substance abuse as a young man, so therefore is very kind and understand toward those struggling with similar issues. He always seems to know what to say just when you need it. I can't wait to be in his presence once again and feel the love of life this man emanates from his inner being.
