Pauline first began practising Hatha Yoga in 2008 and moved to Ashtanga Yoga in 2010. Ashtanga yoga is a system of sequencing postures and focused breathing techniques which formed the basis for the teaching of Pattabhi Jois, who brought Ashtanga Yoga to the western world in the 1970's. Jois was fond of saying that Ashtanga Yoga is 99% practice and 1% theory. So if one wants to know how an apple tastes, I can describe in words and I can show you the fruit, but it is only by tasting the fruit that one can experience the essence. So to know Ashtanga Yoga it must be tasted through the practice. In 2013 Pauline studied at the Ashtanga Research Institute in Mysore, India where she was taught by the grandson of Pattabhi Jois. Pauline also completed a teacher training course with Manju Jois, son of Pattabhi Jois, in 2014. She teaches and assists several classes a week with her own teacher in his shala. As a biologist she has an interest in yoga anatomy and physiology. She lives in the countryside on the island of Crete with her two children.
