Tauhara Retreat & Conference Centre

About This Center

Tauhara is a retreat and conference centre located in Acacia Bay, overlooking Lake Taupo in the centre of New Zealand's North Island.

In 1938, the Founders established a charitable trust in order to create a place for people to come together for community, learning, inspiration and personal growth, but it was not until the 1970s that the present site was developed, with the Centre buildings opening in 1977. With facilities for 60+ guests, Tauhara often hosts a wide range of group retreats, conferences, gatherings and educational seminars. It is also possible for people to stay as individual retreatants, taking time out for rest, recuperation and reflection. The kitchen is revered far and wide for the fresh, often organic and often vegetarian cuisine that is served to guests. There is also a meditation space, The Sanctuary, which is always open for individuals to take quiet time.

The Tauhara Centre offers an affordable learning and gathering space for conferences, workshops, team building,
weddings and educational seminars. The Tauhara Centre represents the convergence of many people and ideas in
one spiritual, cultural and educational centre. This beautiful place, dedicated to honouring different viewpoints and methods of understanding, unites visitors in their search for truth and the establishment of goodwill. Through coming together to share and learn, we aim to add richness to the expression of the Tauhara vision. “We are concerned with the wholeness and interdependence of all creation by virtue of the indwelling presence of God.”
We are sincerely committed to protecting the natural values of the land and environment around the Centre. To show our appreciation for all that mother earth provides, we do our best to use our resources responsibly and encourage our guests to do the same. As part of our sustainable future, we are constantly improving our organic gardens and implementing sustainable energy practices. Committed to this unfolding vision, countless people from New Zealand and beyond have joined in free association to explore diverse views. This free and loving network of people is fundamental to the realisation of the harmony within all creation.

Why Retreat?

We asked people why they go on retreat, here's what they said:

I go on retreat to remember who I really am. And I remember that I am alive, Deryk

Retreat Guru's Vision

We believe human beings are innately wise, strong and kind. This wisdom, although not always experienced, is always present. Going on retreat is a beautiful way to reconnect to our basic sanity and health. Our aspiration at Retreat Guru is to inspire people to experience authentic retreats and reconnect with their innate wisdom, strength and kindness.
