Welcome to Mission San Luis Rey de Francia, King of the Missions.
Founded in 1798 by Padre Fermin Francisco de Lasuen, successor to Padre Junipero Serra, the Mission was named after St. Louis IX, King of France, who lived during the 13th century. The history of the San Luis Rey area reflects five periods of occupation: Luiseño Indian, Spanish Mission, Mexican Secularization, American Military, and Twentieth Century Restoration.
In Old Mission San Luis Rey retreat center in Oceanside, California can sleep up to 93 guests. Each room typically has two twin beds, a sink and a desk, (two rooms have three twin beds). European-style restrooms in the hallways have private showers and toilets. Linens and towels are provided. Each room has individual controls for heat; air conditioning is not provided.
Our 56 acres of property include beautiful gardens and walkways. The swimming pool is available at no charge to Retreat Center guests (safety restrictions apply). A Basketball/volleyball court are located under the shade of 80-year-old pine trees next to the Picnic Pavilion. Equipment is available.
Dining & Banquet Services
Meals are served buffet style in the dining room (100 capacity) and meal times may be adjusted to minimize lines; times will be noted on your contract. Meals for smaller groups may be pre-plated. (Some special dietary requests may be accommodated with advanced notice). Outdoor and patio seating is also available for socials and special dinners. Our professional staff is here to serve you and takes pride in continuing the Franciscan tradition of heritage and hospitality.
