Sivananda Bahamas Ashram Yoga Retreat

About us

The Sivananda Ashram Yoga Retreat provides an immersion into the daily practices of a yogic lifestyle. We are a traditional yoga ashram for contemporary yoga study and practice. Surrounded by the bounty and beauty of nature, the ashram is a place where people come from around the world to expand and deepen their knowledge of yoga.

Setting

We are located across the bay from Nassau, Bahamas, on one of the finest beaches in the world. It is truly an island paradise and a sanctuary of peace and natural beauty. With its pristine white sand beaches, crystal blue waters and five and a half acres of lush tropical gardens, the Sivananda Ashram Yoga Retreat provides the ideal environment for practice, rest, and rejuvenation.

Lineage

We offer a rare combination of traditional ashram and modern yoga retreat. More than just a yoga center, we are an ashram, a spiritual community and study center, established in 1967 by Swami Vishnudevananda. The core staff is a community of residents who have devoted themselves to a spiritual path, living, practicing, and working together to care for the ashram and promote peace in the world through the philosophy and practice of yoga.

Teachings

The ashram provides an immersion into a classical yoga tradition and yogic lifestyle, with a daily schedule that includes meditation, pranayama (yogic breathing practices), asana (yoga postures), and learning. We host hundreds of courses, trainings, talks, performances, and special events each year with highly regarded teachers within the Sivananda lineage as well as guest teachers, presenters, and performers.

Mission and Vision

All of the ashram practices are geared toward the development of inner peace for a more harmonious world. The Sivananda Ashram Yoga Retreat is part of the Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centres.

All are welcome to come to our ashram, we learn from all traditions, and actively promote Unity in Diversity through interfaith and interspiritual dialog, including perspectives from science and the arts. We seek to promote outer peace in the world through inner peace, by sharing  the wisdom and practices of yoga and contributing to a positive shift in consciousness on the planet. The ashram was founded by Swami Vishnudevananda, named in honor of his teacher, Swami Sivananda, and continues to teach in the lineage of the two great yoga masters.

Our Vision

Our vision is to serve as a beacon of light in the world as a gathering place for learning and the exchange of ideas and experiences that impact individuals and the world in important ways.

Our Work

*helping individuals to progress on the spiritual path and attain Self-realization through the classical teachings of yoga (Karma, Bhakti, Raja, and Jnana Yogas), primarily as taught by our own lineage as well as by introducing other spiritual paths and lineages to promote openness, unity, and expansion of horizons.

*helping humanity to unite by bringing together people from all walks of life and a variety of spiritual paths, healing methods, religions, and sciences. Promoting the message of unity in diversity and outer peace through inner peace.
