The Margaret Austin Center

About us

The Margaret Austin Center is a place of renewal, healing, and self-exploration. Located in the rolling hills outside of Chappell Hill, Texas, we provide a quiet, inexpensive retreat setting for spiritual groups of all types. While serving primarily groups with a spiritual, educational, or healing focus, the Center is available to any group whose members need time and space in which to withdraw and renew themselves.

Margaret Austin owned the property for many years, and would often invite fellow meditators to "come to the farm" for quiet contemplation. Over time, these gatherings became more structured and organized, and often included teachers such as Ram Dass and Stephen Levine. Margaret died in 1992. Since 1993, the Center has operated as a nonprofit organization. Our goal remains the same: to provide hospitality to people from every walk of life. We hope to give all of our guests the opportunity to explore their chosen path, to experience the open countryside, and to relax and renew their spirits. This is Margaret’s legacy.

Retreats may be scheduled year round for any length of time. The Center is open to all beliefs and all paths, and we welcome the diversity of our guests. When you come to the Center, your retreat or event will be the only group in residence.

Why Retreat?

We asked people why they go on retreat, here's what they said:

My inspiration sparks from my innate charge to connect with a collective innate goodness. I aspire to live in a way that continuously blossoms and embraces my wise and compassionate human nature. Freundl
