LUPUNA Medicine Lodge

About This Center

Lupuna Medicine Lodge is located in the Amazonian jungle village of Jenaro Herrera, on the banks od the Ucayali River, and about 200km from the city of Iquitos. Our village borders the edge of the Pacaya-Samira Rainforest Preserve and National Forest, about a ten-minute boat ride away. We live in one of the most biodeiverse regions of the Amazon and have access to hiking trails that lead from our lodge into the forest, to observe the amazing life of the jungle.

The village itself is a safe and friendly place, filled with smiling faces that eager to practice saying “hello” in the foreign languages that pass through. The pace of life here is a lot slower than modern world of large cities, creating the perfect setting for deep personal work, reflection and down time.

There is a simple morning market where local foods, fresh juice and smoothies and handicrafts can be purchased, as well as a few other stores that are open daily and carry more items and supplies. We ask our visitors to keep in mind that the village and its people live simply and modestly, we encourage you to come here with an openess of mind and a desire to explore new ways of living.

Our lodge is not only home to our visitors from all over the globe, but is the home to our Shaman, Luco, and his family and staff. Luco built his lodge nearly seven years ago, opening his doors to patients and apprentices, offering them a safe and beautiful lodge to heal, learn the plants, and explore their apprenticeships and relationships with nautre.

Our fully contained lodge has the room to house nearly thirty people, though we keep our retreats limited to a maximum of twenty people, and usually run groups of about fifteen. We have a full kitchen facility, complete with a cooking staff, laundry services, plenty of room to spread out and relax, gardens to walk through or tend and our lodge is kept safe and secure with 24/7 security staff. We have hiking trails that lead from our grounds into the Pacaya-Samira National Reserve, close-by swimming and epic sunrises and sunsets.

Our program provides the daily quiet time needed to process ceremony and dieta work and is perfect for bringing instruments and art supplies along for when inspiration starts to flow. Depending on which apprentices are around, we offer yoga and meditation courses, massage, somatic polarity therapy and spanish classes. If you are interested in these classes, be sure to ask about what is available during the time in which you choose to visit.

Why Retreat?

We asked people why they go on retreat, here's what they said:

To reconnect with my inner self, found ground through the movement of my body and breath. Awake. Jane
