Puerto Mirador Jungle Misty Lodge

About us

A unique opportunity to stay at this eco-jungle misty lodge that was build by the Peruvian government as part of a wider national effort to increase tourism in the country. As such, the location was selected in Moyobamba overseeing a valley surrounded by mountains, with large clouds of mist moving in from the valley. The land at 4 acres is huge, with many fruit trees growing all around. The rooms are spacious and all have a private balcony with view of the gardens and mountains, with modern private bathroom (hot shower, electricity, flushing toilets, etc.). The hotel is walking distance from the Mirador of Tahuisco - which is a collection of small pedestrians-only streets with some shops and restaurants.

With spectacular mountain views, daily hummingbird, toucan and owl visits, locally-grown organic food, daily mist and a swimming pool, the Puerto Mirador is a paradise in the orchid jungle with various enchanting spaces to practice yoga.

The rooms are spacious and with private balconies, modern private bathroom (hot shower, electricity, flushing toilets, etc.). You can sit, eat, and relax in many different areas on this very large property. The hotel is walking distance from the city center and tuk-tuk/mototaxis take you anywhere in town for 2 soles.

Directions

Weather, what to bring & how to get there:

Unlike the evening cold of Cusco or the hot and humid of Tarapoto, the weather in Moyobamba is extremely pleasant: warm but not hot and humid, ideal for yoga practice and enjoying nature. We suggest you bring light clothes such as shorts and t-shirts, and a pair of comfortable pants and a sweater for the evenings. Bring a bathing suit or two for the mineral baths and pools, a pair of running shoes for the hike, and a flashlight or headlamps for the night’s camping.

From Tarapoto airport, hop on a taxi (also called collectivo) for Moyobamba. The cost is 20 soles (about 5-6$) and takes about 1h45minutes across unspoiled jungle, with always a stop to purchase fresh coconuts and other fruits on the way. The taxi or collectivo station in tarapoto is about 5 minutes from the airport, and the cost for a mototaxi (similar to tuk-tuks in Asia) from Tarapoto airport to the collective/taxi station is 5 soles. You can also ask for a taxi/collectivo straight from Tarapoto airport to Moyobamba, eliminating the mototaxi ride to the collective station.
