Venue Highlights

Located on Southwest Caye, at Glover's Reef, the Glover's Reef Basecamp is the perfect base to explore the surrounding reefs. The island staff will have a variety of activities planned each day, or you can easily find an empty hammock, a cold drink and a good book for the day, if that sounds appealing. The dining pavilion is the center of all social activities and meals on the island. There is a resource library, games, and always drinks and juices on hand when you are thirsty. Meals will be set throughout the day, but feel free to peek into the kitchen if you need anything.

A morning yoga sun salutation sequence is a great way to wake up, stretch out, and prepare for a day of exploring, snorkeling, and sea kayaking on Glover's Reef, far from the tourist crush. Imagine beginning each day with an energizing yoga session - on a white sand beach, by turquoise blue waters, under clear blue skies. Rustling palm fronds, bird songs, softly breaking surf - nature's sound track. Sound heavenly? Practicing yoga on nature's doorstep lends a whole new ambiance to the experience and will help take your practice to the next level.

Accommodations

The Basecamp is situated on the east side of Southwest Caye, to take advantage of the easterly trade winds that blow off of the open sea. To the back of the camp, shared modern composting toilet system, as well as a central shower building with fresh-water showers to rinse off the day's salt and sand. The accommodations are aligned along the eastern point to take in the ever-present cooling breeze, flowing off the open caribbean. The safari style tents are simple, clean and comfortable. Each one is appointed with a real wood-frame bed, a 6-inch foam matress, a night-stand with a kerosene lamp, as well as some organizational shelves.

The camp is run primarily on solar and wind generated energy, with a small generator to supplement or recharge batteries when necessary. Perched over the water, there is a thatch-roofed hammock palapa, which is a great spot to read a book and enjoy the breeze. This is a perfect area for early morning yoga sessions, or a place to get out of the sun in a nice covered environment.
