My name is Claire Thompson and I believe that looking into nature within us and around us is the key to bringing forth a happier, more authentic, more peaceful and sustainable world, which inspired me to become the author of Mindfulness and the Natural World and The Art of Mindful Birdwatching.
Nature is around us and within us always. How would we be here experiencing life if it weren’t for our bodies, air, water, trees, birds, the sun and the sky? The simple answer is that we wouldn’t. Nature gives rise to all life including our own. This means that experiencing the natural world is essential for our happiness and well-being - and there is now plenty of evidence to support this fact. In a fast-paced modern world we live in where we are increasingly disconnected from our natural home, we need to experience nature, today more than ever before. This is where mindfulness comes in.
Mindfulness is paying attention, on purpose, non-judgmentally and with kind acceptance to our direct experience (thoughts, feelings, bodily sensations, and surrounding environment) in each moment. We tend to live a large portion of our lives on ‘autopilot’, lost in thoughts, without stopping to notice what it really feels like to be alive, moment by moment. Through mindfulness, we can actively decide where we direct our conscious attention. This choice is the secret to a happier, more contented life. The practice of mindfulness is thus the ideal way to explore our experiences of our own lives – but it is also a wonderful way to notice life around us, in the natural world, wherever we are.
Through Mindfulness of Nature, I run mindfulness workshops, holidays and courses around the world for a variety of audiences with the aim of pursuing my passion for reconnecting people with themselves and the natural world. I also aim to reveal that Mindfulness of Nature involves lots of fun!
I connected to nature in a whole new way during Claire's retreat. I experienced the interconnectedness of the natural world, my sense of belonging there, and a renewed connection with my authentic self. I also had lots of fun and felt completely at ease to be who I really am. I also laughed alot and had a huge amount of fun! A memorable experience all round!

What a wonderful week in nature!!! Relaxed atmosphere, where every day had it's structure but nothing felt imposed and everything was just flowing naturally and beautifully. Don't expect that somebody will be telling you how to appreciate and enjoy nature :) This whole week was an invitation to be and to be with and to allow things to come to you. I felt in a completely safe environment where everything and everybody invites you to just 'let go'. Through little, enjoyable exercises and games I had a chance to experience myself, the people around me and my surrounding in new, refreshing ways. I warmly recommend this experience of Mindfulness of Nature retreat. No words would do a justice to the beauty of the Alps, so I'm not going to even attempt because I'm left speechless every time I try to describe it :) Moalm offers just the right setting. Friendly staff, great and healthy food, welcoming atmosphere - everything just enhances this personal experience of nature. This week was the loveliest gift I could have given to myself and I'm grateful to Claire for this opportunity.
