Manresa Jesuit Retreat House

About us

Manresa Jesuit Retreat House is a place of quiet, peace and prayer that seeks to help people grow in their spiritual life by group and individually directed retreats based on the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius Loyola. We offer workshops, spiritual direction, days of prayer, a Seminar in Ignatian Spirituality, and a yearlong Internship in Spiritual Companionship.

Our retreat center and its conference facilities are also used by other religious and educational groups. And from time to time our staff members lead pilgrimages overseas. You are welcome to attend the 8 AM Mass in our main chapel on most weekdays, Monday to Friday. On First Fridays Mass is followed by a light breakfast. Priests are usually available for the sacrament of Reconciliation, but we recommend calling ahead of time and making an appointment.

Though just sixteen miles north of the center of Detroit, our thirty-nine wooded acres are a place of peace, and the main branch of the young Rouge River runs through it. Come to the quiet of this special place and find rest for your souls.

Venue Highlights

Our main building has accommodations for about 70 retreatants and houses the main chapel, two small prayer chapels, a comfortable library, dining room, offices, and two large meeting rooms. Three separate cottages as well as rooms adjoining St. Joseph’s Jesuit residence provide quarters for longer-term retreatants. The former waterwheel house has been converted into a prayer chapel. The gatehouse, barns, garage and workshop from the original estate survive and are still in use.

Outside, Manresa has the labyrinth, 15 stations of the cross, empty tomb, chapel, Jesuit garden etc.

Why Retreat?

We asked people why they go on retreat, here's what they said:

Reconnecting with basic goodness in an environment of people who share a vision for a better society. Wimberly

Retreat Guru's Vision

We believe human beings are innately wise, strong and kind. This wisdom, although not always experienced, is always present. Going on retreat is a beautiful way to reconnect to our basic sanity and health. Our aspiration at Retreat Guru is to inspire people to experience authentic retreats and reconnect with their innate wisdom, strength and kindness.
