Mamma Shanti

About This Center

Mamma Shanti is more than a guesthouse and yoga space, it’s a conscious way of life. We offer a place in nature for people to reset and reconnect, to unplug from technology and tap into their inner selves. This is a space for healing, for creativity, for exploration and restoration. We advocate a slower paced life, leaving your shoes and concerns at the door, eating with your hands and drinking in the simple goodness of Mother Earth.

Mamma Shanti is hidden among the green hills, 20 minutes drive from Ella town. The surroundings are amazing: nothing around, just greenery of the rain forest, hills and tea plantations. We have two double rooms, with an private terrace and stunning mountain view.

Let Mamma Nature heal you, be your source of power and inspiration

The Mamma Shanti house is a home-away-from-home. We welcome in each person not as a guest but as a fellow dweller sharing in our secluded spot of serenity for as long as they choose. Our house is comfortable and intimate offering all the lushness of modern amenities with the wildness of Sri Lanka growing on our doorstep.
We offer two luxury, ensuite double rooms. Each is kitted with its own private wrap around balcony, hot water shower, and quite possibly the biggest bed you’ve ever had the pleasure of sinking into.

Our breakfasts are a bountiful spread of local tropical tastes and Western favourites. Try exotic offerings like string hoppers, fresh coconut roti, dhal and sambal, or treat yourself to french toast, waffles or banana pancakes. Breakfast is served slow and soulful on our sweeping jungle-view balcony; washed down with bottomless cups of Sri Lankan tea and coffee.

As there are no shops or restaurants nearby, lunch and dinner can be prepared on request. Please arrange with us beforehand so we can stock up before you arrive.

Fresh spring water, tea and coffee is available all day long.

Mamma Shanti is located in Kandekumbura, 40 minutes outside Ella. As we are off the beaten track, we offer our guests the comfort and convenience of having all their transport organised for them.

Our driver can pick you up from the airport (or any area of Sri Lanka) and bring you into Ella town. Here you will meet a tuk-tuk ready to bring you from Ella and down the mountain road to Mamma Shanti.

Enquire with us about tuk-tuk tours to nearby sights and scooter rental.

For the adventurous (or broke 😉 ) backpackers you can take a bus from Ella towards Balleketuwa, hop off at 7 Mile Post and enjoy the winding road through tea farms and past Tamil temples down to Mamma Shanti.

Why Retreat?

We asked people why they go on retreat, here's what they said:

My inspiration sparks from my innate charge to connect with a collective innate goodness. I aspire to live in a way that continuously blossoms and embraces my wise and compassionate human nature. Freundl

Retreat Guru's Vision

We believe human beings are innately wise, strong and kind. This wisdom, although not always experienced, is always present. Going on retreat is a beautiful way to reconnect to our basic sanity and health. Our aspiration at Retreat Guru is to inspire people to experience authentic retreats and reconnect with their innate wisdom, strength and kindness.
