Kootenay EcoRetreat Centre

About This Center

Reset, Renew, Rejuvenate. Share an authentic Kootenay experience in one of the most spectacular settings in the world... the Slocan Valley of British Columbia Canada. We offer retreats in Yoga, Contact Yoga, Women's Yoga, and Health & Nature Retreats combined with outdoor adventure activities. Located at the gateway to the magnificent Valhalla Provincial Park we offer kayaking, hiking, visits to waterfalls or enjoy a luxurious soak in one of the local hot springs. Our guests stay at the Kootenay EcoRetreat Centre aka The White Pines Dojo, a beautiful 'off grid' straw bale retreat centre in the forest.

Venue Highlights

Located just outside of Slocan City, BC. this two storey building is post and beam straw-bale construction measuring 40 ft. by 60 ft. (2400 square ft.). It is ‘off-grid’ using solar, propane and wood for heat. Operating as a traditional Japanese dojo the 1600 square-foot straw bale room has 78 traditional Japanese tatami. The largeness of the room and its earthen walls create a tranquil and clear place to study one’s art. The full facility includes two change rooms, two showers, three washrooms and upstairs accommodations that sleep up to 25 guests.
The facility’s primary power source is solar power. Other features of the dojo include propane on-demand water heater, wood cook stove and outdoor passive solar shower. Year-round fresh water is provided by the spring fed creek on the property. The practice space is warmed by in-floor heating during the winter months.
Nestled on forty acres of gently sloping land of young forests and extensive wild flower meadow just outside of Slocan City there is full sun exposure and 360 degrees of breathtaking vistas, including the Valhalla Mountain range.

Kootenay EcoRetreats offers private rooms with queen or king size beds, shared rooms with single beds and dorm rooms (sleeping 4-6). Egyptian cotton bedding and towels are provided. All three bathrooms are shared and contain showers with on-demand hot water. The centre is off-grid and requires being sensitive to energy use.
