The renovated retreat center reopened in the fall of 2017. Located on the Housatonic River, adjoining more than seven hundred acres of conservation trust and state forest, the property includes 26 guest rooms, a historic stone chapel, a monastic garden, an orchard and working farm, a labyrinth, a small donkey sanctuary, hiking trails, a community hall, meeting rooms, and quiet spaces for rest and reflection.

Meals

Menu Types

At the retreat center, the kitchen is our second chapel and the table is our second alter. It’s where we come together to break bread and be in community. Much of the food prepared by our kitchen staff is farm-to-table, sourced both from the retreat center’s farm and local farms. Guests are invited to get involved in the process, whether it’s through farming, picking fruit from the orchard, saying grace, or helping to clear dishes. Because the table is at the center of community life, meals are served family-style at distinct times throughout the day. Light snacks are available between meal times. We work with guests before every visit to accommodate food allergies and other special dietary needs.

Directions

By Train
Trains to and from Metro North’s Wassaic train station run regularly out of Grand Central Terminal in New York City. The retreat center offers a courtesy shuttle bus for guests who need to be picked up and dropped off at the Wassaic station. Shuttle times vary by season, retreat and train schedule. Typically, the shuttle bus makes two pickup runs during the first night of a retreat and one drop-off on the last day of the retreat. Let us know if you need shuttle service via the booking forms or by phone or email no later than 14 days before your retreat. Taxis
If you miss the free shuttle bus or prefer to take a taxi from the Wassaic station, several taxi companies as well as Uber offer service. Several taxis are usually lined up and waiting with each train arrival. But if you can’t find a taxi, contact one of the following. Taxi Man: 845.789.1242
Tony’s Taxi: 845.677.5560
Emerald Express: 518.592.1074 Morning Star Cab: 845.832.7933 Taxi fare is $40 from Wassaic to West Cornwall. By Car
From New York City: Depending on traffic, driving the 100 miles from NYC to TRC typically takes 2 hours and 20 minutes, with the last part of the journey winding through the beautiful New England hills. You know you’re close when you arrive at the historic West Cornwall covered bridge that takes motorists and bicyclists across the Housatonic River to Lower River Road. From Boston: The retreat center is 2 hours 48 minutes (145 miles) via I-84 East and I-90 East southwest of Boston. From Hartford: If you’re flying into Hartford, the retreat center is about 47 miles (1 hour 15 minutes) to the west. Sorry, but we do not currently operate a shuttle service to Bradley International Airport. The Trinity Retreat Center offers free parking.

A Weekend of Making and Renewal
Trinity's retreat with a fiber arts theme was a perfect escape from urban life. The company, the making and patient instruction, the focused moments of giving thanks, and of course the amazing food combined to create a healing environment. The animals are a bonus. There are six wonderful donkeys and some goats and chickens that are adorable and seem to listen to any problems that one needs to unload.

I am grateful for the experience and have purchased more wool to continue practicing my new yarn winding skills.

Thank you.

Third time, keeps getting better!
Spent the weekend at TRC at a knitting retreat. This is my third time attending and it just keeps getting better and better.

The grounds are breath taking, the spaces are beautiful and comfortable, the food exceptional, the staff so lovely and attentive. The programming and content never disappoints, I always leave re energize and inspired. This place fuels my soul and strengthens my heart.

Textile Arts as a Spiritual Practice
A wonderful retreat. The program was well planned and the group was lovely. The retreat center is so welcoming and the food is delicious. We had time with the donkeys, chickens and goats and also a visiting llama who arrived in a minivan!

Mission & Vision

The Trinity Retreat Center offers a place of gracious, authentic hospitality—where you can slow down, connect deeply with nature, experience the rhythm of a community, enjoy farm-to-table meals, discern direction for your life, and go home ready to make an even greater impact on the world. We are an Episcopal mission of Trinity Church Wall Street and are open to everyone, regardless of denomination or faith.

We like to say the retreat center is “a cross between a monastery and summer camp.” You’ll feel both comfortable and challenged during your stay. You’ll have time to meet new people by the fireplace in our main room, pick a book to read in the library, or unwind in the comfort of your private guest room. We want you to have fun at your own pace while you’re here.

You’ll also be given the opportunity to connect to nature and community by participating in the common life chores of the retreat center, participating in activities such as farming, chopping wood, or feeding the donkeys.

We offer themed retreats, rest and renewal retreats, and holiday retreats for individuals and families. You can also book a retreat especially for your group or committee.
