About this Retreat
My journey started with my own struggles with deep depression and loneliness. I pushed away everyone who tried to help and found myself suffocating in isolation. For a long time, I couldn’t see any reason to live or find any meaning in life. In my early twenties, it became especially hard to let anyone in, even my closest family and dearest friends. I forgot how to look people in the eye and didn’t feel worthy of their attention.
It wasn’t through my own strength that I overcame this darkness. The people around me refused to give up on me and encouraged me to stay connected to the community. By slowly rebuilding my relationships and opening up to those around me, I rediscovered my spirit and my love for life.
This experience inspired me to start Bellevue Counseling. We’re not meant to go through life alone. Relationships—with others and especially with ourselves—are essential for emotional health. At BC, our hope is to give every individual the tools they need to face heartbreak, fear, isolation, and sorrow. If we can help foster healing and supportive communities, then we’ve fulfilled our mission.

Founder and CEO of Bellevue Counseling
Emily Powers, MA, LMHCA, is a psychotherapist licensed in Washington and Hawaii. She specializes in trauma, with training in EMDR, and also works with clients navigating heart break recovery, life transitions and mood disorders.
Trauma work is where her heart is. Emily is passionate about helping people heal from hard things and find their way forward. She believes real change happens gradually, over time, not overnight. That belief is part of what draws her to in-person, immersive retreat work: the kind of experience that can leave a lasting mark, and kickstart someone's healing journey.
She holds a Master's degree in Clinical Counseling Psychology and is currently finishing her training to become a Board Certified Coach.
Wendy is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, Board Certified Behavior Analyst, and WA Licensed Behavior Analyst who brings an integrative approach to trauma work. She's trained in EMDR, CBT, DBT, ACT, and somatic therapy, and holds certifications as an Integrative Mental Health Practitioner and Trauma Practitioner. Wendy brings a body-based, whole-person lens to how she supports people through grief, anxiety, depression, and the aftermath of hard experiences.
Wendy sees her clients as the experts in their own lives. Her approach is collaborative and strength-based: rather than a one-size-fits-all method, she works with each person to figure out what's actually needed, drawing on whichever combination of CBT, DBT, ACT, mindfulness, EMDR, and somatic work fits. She holds space for the fact that life is complicated, and that reaching out for support (especially around trauma) takes courage.
Based in Bellevue, WA, Wendy brings that same grounded, integrative presence to her work with retreat guests, meeting people wherever they are in their healing.
Details of this retreat
If you're still carrying the weight of a single traumatic event, or of years of complex, relational, or childhood experience, this six-day intensive is a place to take a real step forward. We won't promise you'll leave "healed," but you will spend six days in Guanacaste, on one of only five Blue Zones on Earth, working closely with a licensed clinician through daily 1:1 sessions in EMDR, exposure therapy, somatics, and NET. There's opt-in group work too, alongside people who won't need what you've been through explained to them, and time in nature woven throughout. Nothing here is required of you before you're ready for it.
By the end of the week, you'll have a clearer sense of how trauma has shaped your nervous system, your patterns, and your relationships (and tools you've actually practiced, not just talked about!) This retreat is built for people who've already put in the work in a therapist's chair and are ready for the body-based piece that talk alone hasn't reached. Accommodations, meals, daily sessions, group work, and guided nature experiences are all included.
Early bird pricing runs through September 30, 2026 — $1,995 per person for a shared room, $2,695 for private. Space is limited, and every guest completes a short screening call beforehand so we can make sure this is the right fit.
