Pulsating with Nature – A Costa Rica Yoga Retreat

About us

This retreat takes us into the beautiful, lush rain forest and what better intention is there than to pulsate with it?  As we practice yoga on the mat, we become more in touch with our true spirit of who we are and why we are here.  Let us commit ourselves to to a week of discovery of this nature, the nature within ourselves.  Let this physical practice of yoga enlighten not only our body, but our minds and our spirit as well. Aligning with the Divine and opening to the possibility of the Presence of Grace. We will have a strong asana practice each morning where Carmel will help you to open and discover the power that you hold.  Afternoon practices will include meditation. Carmel will also meditate each morning for those who are interested in joining.

Ten Caribbean-style cottages are nestled in a lovely tropical garden. Built with precious woods that are exquisitely polished, each has a private bathroom and a spacious veranda overlooking the jungle and the sea. Some have lofts and accommodate up to four people.

Carmel Calcagno began her practice in 1989 after a book fell on her head in a local bookstore. The book, “Initiation,” was not about yoga but reincarnation. In one of the lifetimes, the author was an Egyptian Princess and did yoga every morning. Carmel bought the book and took her first yoga class the same month. After practicing for seven years, her teacher asked her to teach for him while he was away, not her plan, but it was the beginning of her teaching experience. After 10 years of practicing yoga, Carmel met John Friend, creator of Anusara Yoga, and began her practice with the most amazing group of teachers ever! She was certified in 2003 and opened her studio, Yoga Anjali, in Belmar, NJ, the same year. Carmel also has a strong meditation practice after being initiated into Neelakantha Meditation by Paul Mueller-Ortega of Blue Throat Yoga in 2008.

Carmel now has a program of mentoring teachers as she continues to grow in her own practice and has let go of owning a studio in order to concentrate more on workshops and retreats. Her summers are spent teaching Yoga on the Beach in Avon, New Jersey. Carmel is a Certified Anusara Teacher since 2003 and has been teaching since 1996. She also is a student of Paul Mueller Ortega and a meditator of Neelakantha Meditation.

We love you. And because we do, we're giving away another free retreat.

Why Retreat?

We asked people why they go on retreat, here's what they said:

I'm having a baby in October and want to focus my practice so I can be present and calm! Laine

Retreat Guru's Vision

We believe human beings are innately wise, strong and kind. This wisdom, although not always experienced, is always present. Going on retreat is a beautiful way to reconnect to our basic sanity and health. Our aspiration at Retreat Guru is to inspire people to experience authentic retreats and reconnect with their innate wisdom, strength and kindness.
