Acceptance and Commitment Therapy in Mental Health Practice ~ A 5-Day Professional Training Retreat

About This Event

In this 5-day training, mental health professionals learn an empowering set of solutions to the problem of human suffering.

Acceptance and mindfulness-based practices are rapidly making their way into mental health care, medicine, and society. Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is a newer evidence-based approach that offers empowering solutions to the problem of human suffering and its alleviation.

Led by a dynamic husband and wife team, we explore ACT as a model and intervention technology. Through lectures, live and video demonstrations, and practical experiential exercises, we learn dynamic skills and strategies to help our clients live well, richly, and meaningfully, without first having to control or eliminate sources of emotional and psychological pain. We also learn how ACT can be integrated effectively into mental health practice.

ACT seeks to transform the root sources of human suffering by balancing mindfulness and acceptance processes with commitment and behavior change in the service of living a more vital life. ACT has been applied successfully to many forms of human suffering and can be flexibly and fluidly applied in a variety of mental health settings.

All levels of mental health professionals, including graduate students and postdoctoral fellows, are welcome. Familiarity with ACT is not required.

"John and Jamie’s ACT workshop at the Omega Institute was fun, inspiring, and informative. I recommend the workshop for anyone wanting to understand the nuts, bolts, and nuances of ACT." ~ Rob Polishook, MA, CPC, mental training coach and director of Inside the Zone Sports Performance Group

Why Retreat?

We asked people why they go on retreat, here's what they said:

I teach yoga part time and am a mom of two toddlers full time. I love my life, but goodness do I need a break. My husband and I have been putting off our wedding ceremony for 4 years because life has gotten in the way. We haven't had a single night alone since our family has grown. I wouldn't change a thing about our lives now, but it would be so wonderful to remember what it's like to 'just be us.' Antrim

Retreat Guru's Vision

We believe human beings are innately wise, strong and kind. This wisdom, although not always experienced, is always present. Going on retreat is a beautiful way to reconnect to our basic sanity and health. Our aspiration at Retreat Guru is to inspire people to experience authentic retreats and reconnect with their innate wisdom, strength and kindness.
