The yogic diet is a vegetarian diet that is conducive to the practice of yoga and progress in spiritual life. It draws on a balance of fresh fruit, vegetables, whole grains, milk products, legumes, and nuts and seeds, in both raw and cooked forms. Based on the ancient science of Ayurveda, a yogic diet promotes health and balance, reduces stress, and increases vitality, energy, and joy in your life.

Two buffet-style lacto-vegetarian meals are served at the ashram daily, at 09:45 am and 5:45 pm, prepared with love and care according to yogic dietary principles.

Both brunch and dinner offer nourishing vegetable, grain, and/or bean dishes as well as hearty soups. Brunch also includes delicious fruit, homemade granola, or freshly made yogurt. Raw fixings to make your own salad are offered at both meals, as well as our own baked bread. You are also welcome to enjoy a cup of our daily herbal tea selection.

Enjoy your meal by the ocean, in the tropical gardens, or in the main dining area amongst other yogis staying at the ashram.

I just spent a magical and transformational 23 days as a vacationer in the Sivananda Yoga Retreat Bahamas. Anything I write here won't do it enough justice. But I'll try :) First of all, I stayed in a Tent Hut. Beautiful, simple, clean. Very spacious for a tent! There's a bed, and furniture for everything you need. Food was PHENOMENAL!! Both chefs were out of this world. I went back for seconds literally every night. The holidays were amazing!! Celebrating Christmas and Hanukkah at the ashram was absolutely fantastic. They put so much thought and love and care into the celebrations. Not to mention the gorgeous Christmas lights and decorations everywhere ... so festive and beautiful! The speakers and presenters were uplifting and wonderful. I went to almost all the satsangs and many of the workshops, ranging from Qigong to Christian Mystics to Meditation to Chanting Om to healing. It was all incredible and so diverse. It was a little windy for the beach, but I didn't care. The energy of the ashram shifted me from burnout to inspiration. I felt completely renewed and refreshed. This was my 4th time vacationing at the ashram this year. I already planned out 2 more vacations for 2020. And I'm going to join the Advanced Yoga Teacher Training Course as well. I can't wait. Highly recommend to anyone looking for clarity, transformation, self-reflection, and wonderful, kind-hearted people. I have no desire to vacation anywhere else. Thank you to all the wonderful staff and leaders of the ashram for an amazing experience.

Best Yoga School in all of North America, by far the deepest place to come and do your spiritual practice.

This Ashram is the real deal. A true yogic monastery, with a fantastic program of courses, workshops and symposiums in the best location, on Paradise Island, it is also a beautiful spiritual resort. It is home away from home. the diverse teachings, the different speakers and the fact that there is so much more then just the basic principal study of yoga shows the open mindedness of the Ashram Founder, Swami Vishnudevananda and the current Director and Spiritual leader, Swami Swaroopananda. To see dedicated yogis that are so open to other ways of teachings, different modalities and spiritual traditions while keeping to their own practice so devotedly is an inspiration. beside all this, the turquoise waters the white-gold sand and the palm trees, heaven is on earth, and it is located on Paradise Island, Bahamas.

Visiting the Sivananda Ashram in the Bahamas has given me a new life.

I highly recommend visiting the Sivananda Ashram in the Bahamas. It was one of the best decisions that I have made in my life. I took the Sivananda Teacher Training course, The Positive Thinking and Meditation course, and the Ayurvedic Yoga Therapist course. The training and skills I learned at the Sivananda Ashram in the Bahamas has given me a new life. I own a yoga studio named The Yoga Loft in Titusville, FL where I currently teach Sivananda Yoga, Ayurveda Yoga Therapy and Meditation. I also often have guest teachers and speakers at The Yoga Loft that I have met at the Sivananda Ashram in the Bahamas. Everything I practiced, studied and learned at the Sivananda Ashram in the Bahamas has helped me teach myself, my family, my friends and my community to live a happy and healthy life.       Nice place to get away from the world and do Yoga

I have been going to the Yoga Retreat for many years. All in all it is a great place to visit and learn Classical Yoga philosophy, which includes, but is not limited to Asanas. For some, that can be a bit unexpected, however, it is a good start to learn about the culture behind Yoga. I took my Advanced Teacher Training here, and it was tough, but rewarding experience.

      A Beautiful, Magical, Spiritual World

From the first time I arrived at this island sanctuary, I was transported. I loved being in the daily practice of meditation and asanas and chanting. I found that day by day, I felt more connected to my most natural self and the best in others. I have returned several times because each time I learn so much — about yoga philosophy or neuroscience or peacemaking or ... there is always something rich and fascinating being presented — and because I meet other beautiful souls looking to make sense of the human journey and its struggles — in order to transform and elevate it all. The path that yoga seers and sages have mapped out is clear and the ashram is a place to benefit from that wisdom — and float in exquisite blue waters that stretch to the horizon.

      A special experience

The Sivananda Ashram Yoga Retreat in Bahamas is a unique, special, and extremely peaceful place to go to de-stress, rejuvenate, and reconnect to oneself. The location in nature is stunning, the yoga decks are beautiful, and the teachings are important and necessary. There are so many different courses being offered and so many to choose from! Also an amazing place to go as a single traveller and feel comfortable. If you want a unique experience and healthy + educational holiday, this is the place to go.

Always a physical and spiritual reset

I've come to rely on the Sivananda Ashram as a precious home away from the chaos of modern living. As soon as I arrive at the ashram, I am surrounded by its pure energy, its' lovely community, its' beautiful tropical gardens, and its' healing beach and waters. The lectures and workshops and inspiring and calming to me. The daily routine helps me reground and find my center. I usually lose 3 -5 pounds in one week just be eating its' yogic diet full of vegetables and grains, minus the processed foods and snacks. My skin looks better, my clothes fit better, my eyes sparkle more, and my breath comes in and out more easily. I leave with a strong reminder that my spiritual family at Sivananda is here to take care of me, and to give me the strength to return to the outer world with peace and happiness in my heart. Thank you Sivananda Bahamas!!!

      Rejuvenation, Reflection, Meditation and Yoga

if you are looking rejuvenation reflection, meditation, some yoga, and yummy vegetarian food on a beautiful tropical island, Sivananda Ashram Yoga Retreat may suit you just fine! I just finished a wonderful week. I was pleased the vegetarian meals were so darn tasty! I'd brought snacks in case I was hungry, but my body was so thrilled I was filing it with healthy food that I ended up eating almost too much at every meal... Every single activity all was completely optional, and nobody came to hunt down anyone who skipped meditation or a yoga class or an evening talk. Every instructor and lecturer emphasized that the principles and techniques we were learning could be incorporated into any faith tradition - or none at all. Sivananda Ashram was busy this past week. At no time, however, did it feel tense or frenzied, even though some classes and bathrooms (which are always being cleaned) did get a bit crowded. The community members and guests were from all different ethnic and age groups, and everyone I spoke to almost without exception was warm and friendly. I enjoyed my week thoroughly, and look forward to returning soon!

In-depth learning and training that lasts a lifetime

My experience at Sivananda is something that gave me the tools and training to last a lifetime. I consider it the place I learned to meditate. The morning meditations gave me familiarity with the habit. I visited for the sleep and dreams conference, and was very interested to learn about the subject. On top of that, there was a variety of classs at the time to explore in various areas of spirituality, health and wellness, and yoga and meditation practices. I’ve been to the retreat two occasions now and have always unexpectedly learned new things and explored new areas of subjects I know and love. The food was always a highlight and I enjoyed the vegetarian meals. I loved the home-made bread and peanut butter!

      Amazing experience

I did both my Yoga Teacher Training Course (TTC) and two months of karma yoga at the Sivananda Ashram Yoga Retreat Bahamas, and both experiences were incredible. The setting is beautiful, the staff supportive, and the teaching second to none. The food is pretty good too! I would recommend it to anyone, and would love to go back.

      "My second Home"

The Sivananda Ashram Yoga retreat is an ideal yoga vacation spot. With the turquoise ocean and soft white sand and all the yoga one can handle it's the best place to rejuvenate and rest from our busy lives. I first came, 2007, to take a 10 day course, Mind, Body yoga therapy, which began the healing and fell in love with the whole experience of living a yogic lifestyle. I wanted more of the energy and teachings i was receiving in the daily lectures so 3 months later returned serve asa a karma yogi for 9 months in the Well-being centre offering Thai massages. Since then i have grown leaps and bounds and have healed my pains both physical and emotional. The grounds are kept natural and beautifully cared for and the energy there is so peaceful. Perhaps because we all meditate 2x a day, perhaps because we are all peace seekers. The vegetarian meals are as nourishing as it gets. I felt lighter, clearer and abundant with energy, ready to take on new levels of development. Now I teach courses and retreat programs there a few times each year such as restorative yoga retreats and teacher trainings, as well as therapeutic yoga and more. I highly recommend this retreat for a yoga vacation, advancing oneself in the practice of yoga and to become a teacher. Om Sundari

      Paradise Found

I have visited the Bahamas Sivananda Yoga Retreat many times since 1998 and have visited as a guest and also as a karma yogi (volunteer). I have experienced some very blissful moments and always leave feeling healthy and refreshed. The retreat is part of an international organisation and connected to the ancient lineage of Shankara Charya. It is a health conscious and spiritual centre in a fantastic environment…... turquoise ocean, clean air, simple accomadation.... It provides the tools to go deeper into your yoga practice and spend time detoxifying on every level. Simple food, cooked by volunteers that is healthy and tasty. The yoga asanas that are traditional hatha, which is very relaxing, and energising, designed to get you in touch with your deeper self - not to make you sweat. The satsangs (meditation) consist of silent meditation, chanting and a talk by either a senior staff member or a speaker invited to speak on many and varied topics and the musical events can be fantastic - listening and watching Snatam Kaur in such a small, intimate environment was very moving. The ashram is situated on the most stunning beach, which is often empty, a beautiful spot to watch the most magical sunsets. On a more pragmatic note there is internet always available, Atlantis is 15 minutes walk down the beautiful beach if you need caffeine, and Nassau is a short boat ride away if you want to hang out with tourists and buy souvenirs…. The ashram is a place to replenish, rejeuvenate and to return a little to who you really are. Carolyn (Uma)

      Yoga vacation

I have been the ashram 5x all for a long weekend. Every time, got harder and harder to leave. The piece of property that it is on is literally breathtaking. Amazing food and vibes all around. Will defiantly be hearing back soon.

so many good things to experience at this Yoga Retreat

I just love all the amazing teachers and courses they offer here, each evening there are incredibly intelligent talks from leaders in the field of not just yoga, but science and spirituality as a whole. The location can't be beat. I enjoy meeting people from all over the world who come here - many Canadians and folks from Europe. The food is great and there's a great range of accommodations to make it affordable for all budgets. The beach is beautiful, the water spectacular so I spend little time in my room given all there is to do the whole day long. One of my favorite places in the world : )

      Becoming a Yogi

I took the teachers training course in the Sivananda ashram, and it was also my first time doing yoga in general. The amount of knowledge, experience and practice I had there was a defining moment in my life, and one of the most powerful milestones in my current life as a Yogi. I also had the pleasure of living in the ashram for months in the Karma Yoga program, and it was the most rewarding spiritual experience, Learning how to overcome aggression, Ego, and selfishness in the most profound way under the teachings of the Swamis. It took me years, and lots of experience with other Yoga teachings to truly appreciate the value of learning Yoga from teachers, and Swamis who immersed themselves completely into the teachings of Yoga, and learning from them was a gift that will guide me everywhere. One of my favorite things about the Ashram is it's value to variety of knowledge from different cultures and spiritual sources, musicians, physicists, artists, and spiritual leaders come together to create a diverse community of thinkers and positive ideas. I love the Sivananda Yoga Ashram in the Bahamas, it's my spiritual home. I recommend to everyone who wants a life changing experience to go there and experience Yoga in it's raw form.

      Karma Yoga

The Sivananda Ashram Yoga Retreat Bahamas is a high vibes place. If you're looking for a place to truly transform your life, look no further... Daily life at the ashram can be intense but looking back I got sooo much out of ashram life. Living an authentic yoga lifestyle, appreciating the beauty of discipline, and stretching my limited self. It was a soul stirring and elevating experience. I'm very thankful for everything I learned and the life long connections I made on that little piece of paradise!

      A True Yoga Experience

I love Sivananda Bahamas. It is the place where I go to rejuvenate and heal on every level. It is such a unique and special place. You can feel the love, practice, and devotion. It is an authentic yoga ashram that is easy to get to from North America. If you want to go deeper with yoga you will find so much here.

      Truly my second home

I first came as a karma Yogi in 2010 to the Ashram. I stayed to do my teacher training and then extended for almost an entire year. I go back every year both to learn, to serve, to recharge and to be with this incredible community. Without exaggeration my time at the Ashram has been one of the greatest influences in my life. It is not the carefree retreat setting many other places offer. The Ashram pushes you to truly immerse yourself in the philosophy and lifestyle of yoga not just physical practices. I have sent many many of my students to the Ashram and they all come back changed with a deeper love of this practice and a strong desire to create a similar community where theylive. That in and of itself it the Ashram s most important and lasting legacy: a world with more love, peace and unity.

  • Elena Erber   July 25, 2018

      peaceful retreat

I've made several trips to the ashram over the past few years and have always found it to be a wonderful reprieve from my busy life. The yoga vacation schedule offers just the right amount of learning and activities with plenty of time for relaxation. Early morning satang is a lovely way to start the day. Lots of opportunity for yoga. People from all over the world. And, of course, the beach is exquisite.
