It can be quite liberating when we stop struggling against reality, stop “demanding things be other than the way they are.” The Buddha taught that there are three areas where we are particularly subject to this tendency – the Three characteristics of Existence. We create our own dissatisfaction when we ignore the truths of unreliability (impermanence), unsatisfactoriness (suffering), and selflessness (not-self). By cultivating acceptance of these truths, we naturally align with the way things are. In this retreat, we will explore how our tendency to resist the way things are shows up in our lives, how we can reduce this struggle, and the freedom that is available when we stop resisting. The retreat will be held in Noble Silence, with alternating periods of sitting and walking meditation, a daily Dharma talk, instruction period, and working meditation , and the opportunity for a practice discussion meeting with the teacher. While those of all levels of experience are welcome, the schedule will be moderately demanding.
