Pedro Carillo is a yoga practitioner with extensive experience offering hands-on alignment-based yoga teacher trainings in Peru and the USA. He is an experienced detox practitioner who has worked with many Amazon and Andean plants, has studied Conscious Nutrition with Gabriel Cousens, and introduced the raw vegan culture in Peru since 1997.

Vincent Roy began practicing martial arts during his teenage years to early 20’s and then transitioned through Tai Chi and Qigong after sustaining training injuries. It was after moving to Japan that he progressed through Yoga, which he has been practicing for over a decade. In 2017 he became a Yoga Instructor studying under Pedro Carillo in Peru. As a deep sea diver, Vincent specializes in pranayama and breathing techniques.

On the first day of training, you will receive a complimentary Yoga Detox Peru Yoga Teacher 200-hour manual, and will be guided by our staff to begin your journey of meditation, asana sequencing and pranayama techniques towards stepping into your new role of yoga teacher.

The weather in Moyobamba is very pleasant: warm but not hot and humid, ideal for body and mind purification. The city of Moyobamba offers various nature sanctuaries for orchids and hummingbirds, and the hot springs of San Mateo are ideal for relaxing our muscles after a day’s practice and for the cleansing process.

Students will reside and train at the Puerto Mirador hotel in an ashram-like communal environment, with some days practices taking place in other spaces in nature.

Venue Highlights

Accommodations at the Puerto Mirador hotel
A unique opportunity to stay at this eco-garden lodge that was build by the Peruvian government as part of a wider national effort to increase tourism in the country. As such, the location was selected in Moyobamba overseeing a valley surrounded by mountains, with large clouds of mist moving in from the valley. The land at 5 acres is huge, with many fruit trees growing all around. The rooms are spacious and all have a private balcony with view of the gardens and mountains, with modern private bathroom (hot shower, electricity, flushing toilets, etc.). The hotel is walking distance from the Mirador of Tahuisco - which is a collection of small pedestrians-only streets with some shops and restaurants.

Directions

Weather, what to bring & how to get there:

Unlike the evening cold of Cusco or the hot and humid of Tarapoto, the weather in Moyobamba is extremely pleasant: warm but not hot and humid, ideal for yoga practice and enjoying nature. We suggest you bring light clothes such as shorts and t-shirts, and a pair of comfortable pants and a sweater for the evenings. Bring a bathing suit or two for the mineral baths and pools, a pair of running shoes for the hike, and a flashlight or headlamps for the night’s camping.

From Tarapoto airport, hop on a taxi (also called collectivo) for Moyobamba. The cost is 20 soles (about 5-6$) and takes about 1h45minutes across unspoiled jungle, with always a stop to purchase fresh coconuts and other fruits on the way. The taxi or collectivo station in tarapoto is about 5 minutes from the airport, and the cost for a mototaxi (similar to tuk-tuks in Asia) from Tarapoto airport to the collective/taxi station is 5 soles. You can also ask for a taxi/collectivo straight from Tarapoto airport to Moyobamba, eliminating the mototaxi ride to the collective station.

Why Retreat?

We asked people why they go on retreat, here's what they said:

My inspiration is to find some very much needed solace away from the stress of raising 4 children, working (as a dietitian) and trying to get my private nutrition counseling practice launched. I am a registered yoga instructor and have practiced for over 10 yrs, and have always dreamed of taking a yoga retreat just for my own inner well being. Linda

Retreat Guru's Vision

We believe human beings are innately wise, strong and kind. This wisdom, although not always experienced, is always present. Going on retreat is a beautiful way to reconnect to our basic sanity and health. Our aspiration at Retreat Guru is to inspire people to experience authentic retreats and reconnect with their innate wisdom, strength and kindness.
