Yoga retreats are unique and transformational life moments that call upon introspection, observation of our body-mind relationship with food, and allow us to share with and learn from others in a community-based environment. The Amazon rainforest of Moyobamba is warm, teaming with life and morning mist, and allows us to reconnect with nature and Pachamama. With two lagoons, daily hummingbird and toucan visits, locally-grown organic food, and a strolling path around the property through various flowers and scents, La Casa de mi Sueño is a paradise in the orchid jungle with various enchanting spots to practice yoga, and it is just re-opening to the public in 2018 from mid-April to mid-October.

This 5-day Power Yoga Retreat is designed to help you purify your body and mind through daily postural practice with pose variations for beginners to advanced level practitioners, a yogi raw-vegan gluten-free diet supplemented with Amazonian detox juicing, morning meditation in the mist and evening star gazing, as well as visits to the hot springs for natural joint/pain relieve and stress reduction, and finally Thai, shiatsu, or deep tissue massages are also available.

This program includes daily Hatha Vinyasa yoga classes, a spectacular 1-night camping excursion on top of the Morro de Calzada where we will practice yoga at sunset & sunrise on a natural panoramic 360° viewpoint and meditate in early morning mist…, a complimentary 30-minute massage of your choice to alleviate any body stress or pain you may have from the beginning of your stay, and an opportunity to breathe fresh air, slow down, and observe the present moment while training your body and mind in this unique jungle oasis where hummingbirds and sometimes also owls visit daily.

  • Special dietary needs can be accommodated with advanced notice.

Hatha Vinyasa Yoga

Daily yoga classes take place in nature, La Casa de mi Sueño offering several spaces to practice on the grass, on the tennis court, and under the house. We will practice surrounded by a visual scenery of lagoons, greenery and hummingbird visits, the smell the Amazonian flowers, and a soundscape of birds, insects, and leaves in the wind. The morning practice is designed to invigorate you, while in the afternoon we will work to fortify and restore, with extended guided Shavasanas and double octave native flute to transport you to a place of stillness. My teaching style is hands-on alignment based with the use of props. The objective is for you to leave revitalized and inspired to apply in your daily life some of what you will learn here.

Hiking and Camping on the Morro de Calzada

The Morro de Calzada is a hill of about 575meters/1886 feet that stands in the middle of the Alto Mayo valley, 13 km north of Moyobamba. It takes about 15-20 minutes by bus to La Calzada district, 20 minutes walk to the foot of the hill, and about 1.5 hour to the top. The Morro features calcium formations and a natural panoramic 360° view point, with a climate typical of wet cloud forests, warm by day and chillier by night, with mist during late and early hours of the day. We have included plenty of buffer time to climb the hill slowly and relax on top after arrival before practicing yoga. We will carry some personal/double and larger tents, food and mats with us, and there is also a wood gazebo on top of the hill where we can relax. There is a groundskeeper that patrols the hill to keep order, and as such the area is safe.

Accommodations at La Casa de mi Sueño

A rare opportunity to stay at this boutique eco-garden lodge, which will reopen from mid-April to mid-October in 2018 after years of not receiving guests. The rooms are spacious and all have a private balcony with view of the gardens and mountains, with modern private bathroom (hot shower, electricity, flushing toilets, etc.). You can sit, eat, and relax in hammocks in an open veranda below the rooms. The house is walking distance from the city center via stairs that lead from this small street to the Mirador of Tahuisco - which is a collection of small pedestrians-only streets with some shops and restaurants.

Room Options & Prices per person:

  • Private Room double bed (in-room bathroom & shower)            - price: 975$
  • Private Room single bed (in-room bathroom & shower)              - price: 895$

Weather, what to bring & how to get there:

Unlike the evening cold of Cusco or the hot and humid of Tarapoto, the weather in Moyobamba is extremely pleasant: warm but not hot and humid, ideal for yoga practice and enjoying nature. We suggest you bring light clothes such as shorts and t-shirts, and a pair of comfortable pants and a sweater for the evenings. Bring a bathing suit or two for the mineral baths and pools, a pair of running shoes for the hike, and a flashlight or headlamps for the night’s camping.

From Tarapoto airport, hop on a taxi (also called collectivo) for Moyobamba. The cost is 20 soles (about 5-6$) and takes about 1h45minutes across unspoiled jungle, with always a stop to purchase fresh coconuts and other fruits on the way. The taxi or collectivo station in tarapoto is about 5 minutes from the airport, and the cost for a mototaxi (similar to tuk-tuks in Asia) from Tarapoto airport to the station is 2 soles. I personally ask for a taxi straight from Tarapoto airport to Moyobamba, eliminating the mototaxi ride there, which I never have a problem to find.

Benefits:

  • Pause and immerse yourself in nature in the Amazonian jungle
  • Deepen your yoga practice with daily Hatha Vinyasa practices
  • Learn new meditation techniques
  • Practice deep breathing with Bandhas (locks) and pranayama
  • Learn yogi morning routine habits
  • Relax your body and mind in mineral baths while learning foot reflexology
  • Unique opportunity to stay at a stunning eco-garden lodge that is just re-opening to the public from mid-April to mid-October in 2018
  • All-inclusive package: Just bring yourself and your smile! If you wish to learn some new vegan recipes you are welcome to participate in cooking when you feel like it.

Yoga and meditation allow us to step back and contemplate, experience subtle different states of consciousness that help clarify our thoughts and value system, and provide us with intuitive knowledge on what brings us happiness in life. Come feel the music within you on this beautiful and rejuvenating yoga journey of self-awareness in the Amazonian jungle.

I began practicing kung-fu at 15 years old through my early 20’s and then transitioned through Tai Chi and Qigong. It was after moving to Japan that I progressed through yoga, which I have been practicing for 12 years now in Japan, Indonesia, India, Thailand, Canada and now Peru. Last year I became a RYT Yoga Alliance-certified Hatha Vinyasa yoga teacher studying under Pedro Carillo in Peru, and my teaching style is hands-on alignment based with the use of props. As a deep sea diver, I specialize in pranayama and breathing techniques.

I offer you two different intimate retreat options: for those seeking a more physically challenging experience with still plenty of time to relax in hot springs, hammocks, and see the hummingbird and orchid sanctuary, then this 5 Day Power Hatha Vinyasa yoga detox retreat with hiking camping yoga excursion is definitely for you!

If on the other hand at this time you feel like a more relaxing yoga retreat, my 5 Day Restorative Yin Yoga retreat offers you in lieu of the camping trip an excursion to Tingana eco-reserve for a morning quiet canoe ride through waterways and forests where monkeys, birds, and other animal species are waking up…

You can also design you own custom retreat with the dates/length, excursions, and yoga styles of your choice. Contact me for such requests.

Free Retreat Givewaway

We love you. And because we do, we're giving away another free retreat.

Why Retreat?

We asked people why they go on retreat, here's what they said:

My inspiration is a desire to gain a deeper connection to and understanding of myself, something that I've been working hard on for so long and will continue to do in the future. I view a retreat as a wonderful way to focus entirely on this without the distractions of every day life! Nicola

Going on retreat is a beautiful way to reconnect to our basic sanity and health.
