About us

5 Day Restorative Yoga Retreat

Join me for this five days Restorative yoga retreat in the Amazonian jungle of Peru for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to practice yoga, meditation, relax in mineral baths, and partake in an excursion to the Tingana eco-reserve. Offered in an all-inclusive yogi detox package at the most stunning location in Moyobamba, the Puerto Mirador hotel, originally built by the Peruvian government as part of a wider national effort to increase tourism in the country. The 5 acre land was selected just above a valley overseeing mountains, and as such abounds with mist and spectacular views. Fruits growing on the property include mangos, oranges, pomarrosa, yellow and green coconuts, guava, etc.

Yoga retreats are unique and transformational life moments that call upon introspection, observation of our body-mind relationship with food, and allow us to share with and learn from others in a community-based environment. The Amazon rainforest of Moyobamba is warm, teaming with life and morning mist, and allows us to reconnect with nature and Pachamama. With daily hummingbird and toucan visits, locally-grown organic food, a huge land to walk, meditate, and practice yoga, various flowers and scents, the Puerto Mirador is a paradise in the orchid jungle.

This 5-day Restorative Yin Yoga Retreat is designed to help you unwind in a serene natural environment, purify your body and mind through daily postural practice stretching connective tissues around the joints and ligaments, cleanse your body with a yogi vegetarian and/or vegan (gluten-free) diet supplemented with Amazonian detox juicing, morning meditation in the mist and evening star gazing, as well as visits to the local hot springs for natural joint/pain relieve and stress reduction, and finally Thai, shiatsu, or deep tissue massages.

This program includes daily Yin yoga and meditation practices, an enchanting excursion to the Tingana eco-reserve, a complimentary 30-minute massage of your choice to alleviate any body stress or pain you may have been carrying with you, and an opportunity to breathe fresh air, slow down, and observe the present moment while truly relaxing and reflecting in this unique jungle oasis where hummingbirds, toucans, and owls visit daily.

Yoga is the path of union, and yoga practices help you come to the realization that there is a connection among the different aspects of ourselves.

Yin Yoga

Daily yoga practices take place in nature, the Puerto Mirador offering several spaces on the grass, indoors, or under passageways. We will practice surrounded by a visual scenery of mountains, greenery and hummingbird visits, the smell Amazonian flowers, and a soundscape of birds, insects, and leaves in the wind. Both morning and evening practices are designed to help you stretch and relax, with extended guided Shavasanas and double octave native flute to transport you to a place of stillness. My teaching style is hands-on alignment based with the use of props. The objective is for you to leave revitalized and inspired to apply in your daily life some of what you will learn here.

Excursion to Tingana Eco-Reserve

Experience the beauty and authenticity of Tingana, a refuge for wild animals that takes you canoeing on a discovery trip through Amazon rivers filled with gigantic renaco tree roots. Here you can listen to the jungle and observe toucans and other birds, monkeys, sloths, snakes, and insects in their natural habitat. Tingana is composed of 25 families all involved in eco-conservation, 10 of whom also run their eco-tourism program. Many of Tingana’s residents used to hunt for work, but now the reserve has allowed them to earn a living by conserving the environment instead of depleting it.

Yoga and meditation allow us to step back and contemplate, experience subtle different states of consciousness that help clarify our thoughts and value system, and provide us with intuitive knowledge on what brings us happiness in life. Come feel the music within you on this beautiful and rejuvenating yoga journey of self-awareness in the Amazonian jungle.

I began practicing kung-fu at 15 years old and teaching it at around 18 through my early 20’s, and then transitioned through Tai Chi and Qigong. It was after moving to Japan that I progressed through yoga, which I have been practicing for 12 years now in Japan, Indonesia, India, Thailand, Canada and now Peru. Last year I became a RYT Yoga Alliance-certified Hatha Vinyasa yoga teacher studying under Pedro Carillo in Peru, and my teaching style is hands-on alignment based with the use of props. As a deep sea diver, I specialize in pranayama and breathing techniques.

I offer you two different intimate retreat options: for those seeking a truly relaxing experience, my 5 Day Restorative Yin Yoga retreat offers you an excursion to Tingana eco-reserve for a morning canoe ride through Amazon rivers where monkeys, sloths, birds, and other animal species are waking up…

If on the other hand at this time you feel more like a physically challenging experience with still plenty of time to relax in hot springs, hammocks, and see the hummingbird and orchid sanctuary, then my 5 Day Power Hatha Vinyasa yoga detox retreat with hiking yoga excursion is for you!

You can also design you own custom retreat with the dates/length, excursions, and yoga styles of your choice. Contact me for such requests.

Accommodations at the Puerto Mirador hotel
A unique opportunity to stay at this eco-garden lodge that was build by the Peruvian government as part of a wider national effort to increase tourism in the country. As such, the location was selected in Moyobamba overseeing a valley surrounded by mountains, with large clouds of mist moving in from the valley. The land at 5 acres is huge, with many fruit trees growing all around. The rooms are spacious and all have a private balcony with view of the gardens and mountains, with modern private bathroom (hot shower, electricity, flushing toilets, etc.). The hotel is walking distance from the Mirador of Tahuisco - which is a collection of small pedestrians-only streets with some shops and restaurants.

Directions

Weather, what to bring & how to get there:

Unlike the evening cold of Cusco or the hot and humid of Tarapoto, the weather in Moyobamba is extremely pleasant: warm but not hot and humid, ideal for yoga practice and enjoying nature. We suggest you bring light clothes such as shorts and t-shirts, and a pair of comfortable pants and a sweater for the evenings. Bring a bathing suit or two for the mineral baths and pools, a pair of running shoes for the hike, and a flashlight or headlamps for the night’s camping.

From Tarapoto airport, hop on a taxi (also called collectivo) for Moyobamba. The cost is 20 soles (about 5-6$) and takes about 1h45minutes across unspoiled jungle, with always a stop to purchase fresh coconuts and other fruits on the way. The taxi or collectivo station in tarapoto is about 5 minutes from the airport, and the cost for a mototaxi (similar to tuk-tuks in Asia) from Tarapoto airport to the collective/taxi station is 5 soles. You can also ask for a taxi/collectivo straight from Tarapoto airport to Moyobamba, eliminating the mototaxi ride to the collective station.
