About This Event

Ashtanga Yoga Retreat with Balu Thevar from the 14th - 21st of June in Sicily.

Balu Thevar is coming to Sankalpasicily for the second time around to share his profound knowledge of the Ashtanga tradition.

Last year Balu was one of the teachers that blindly trusted the seed that was planted as Sankalpasicily and without hesitation joined us here for a retreat.

Balu has got a truly unique way to transmit the Ashtanga Yoga system to his students, firm and lovable at the same time.

Balu's journey with yoga started 13 years ago when he was introduced to his mentor, Swami Kuttiyand, by his father, Rajendra Thevar. He practiced under the supervision of Swami Kuttiyand for 4 years and then became an assistant teacher for his mentor. His journey continued in Varanasi, Rishikesh and for several years in Mysore where he continued to teach and attend classes. In 2009, Balu opened his own shala, Sadhana Yoga Shala in Arambol Goa. Balu believes that our body is a gift and a vehicle that we use for our journey through this life. This journey provides an opportunity to become a better person and thereby find our true self.

I am humble, so very grateful to have participated the yoga retreat week arranged by HiYoga. Francesca and Sara, you rock ! Your love, passion, smiles, energy, the delicious raw food, engagement and wonderful hospitality has been stunning. The accommodation was excellent. Living in the fields surrounded with beautiful nature, animals, nearby the sea and beautiful villages gives the peace and power of life. The asthanga yoga was very good and my practice has definitely improved with a stronger body and mind. Cant wait to come back. In my heart forever, love you guys

Venue Highlights

SankalpaSicily is a project for life. Two years ago a seed was planted in Rishikesh India. After our adventure in the summer of 2017 where we organised 3 retreats we are now dedicating more energy into this project we strongly believe in. We, Francesca and Sara, both share a deep love for Ashtanga yoga and the sunny island of Sicily. We can’t wait to meet you and make the most out of your stay here in Sicily.
We believe that with great teachers, ambiance, food and with our dedication all combined we are delivering a 360 degree retreat experience.

The space in between
The amazing island of Sicily has got a lot to offer in-between the daily yoga classes, we will be delighted to help the guests to get a truly Sicilian experience.
During the week there will be plenty of time to explore and indulge into Sicily in all senses.
Music and dance as an expression is something we strongly believe in and according to the group we will offer a music event during your stay with us.
Leaving space to let go and to grow in new spaces, we welcome you to join this retreat with an open heart.

We warmly welcome you to Sicily in 2018.
SankalpaSicily is strategically placed in the heart of the southern province of Ragusa. The Baglio, (a traditional rural structure built with the local white stone around an internal courtyard) is located in a quiet place in the unique Hyblean Countryside. Pastures, fields, walking paths, surround the property. Fresh air and tranquility are in abundance.

The province of Ragusa has a rich artistic and cultural heritage. Here you can enjoy and explore the world renowned Sicilian Cuisine, Hospitality and Baroque Architecture, just to name a few.

From Ragusa Ibla’s stunning setting, defined as an island within an island, to Modica, with it’s magnificent churches, looming domes and a long tradition of chocolate making, to Scicli a fascinating little town off the beaten track made famous with the series of Inspector Montalbano. In close proximity (8km) you will find Marina di Ragusa, a beach town with shops, restaurants, beach lidos and long sandy stretches of golden sand washed by the waves from the Mediterranean Sea.

If you are looking for a more chilled beach experience Cava Randello is for you, with its untouched quiet beaches tainted by the Mediterranean green scrubland and its crystal clear waters.
Costa del Carro is ideal for those who like rocks, the waters here are ideal for snorkelling and swimming.

Just to name a few, the area is full of surprises and very rewarding as a tourist destination.
