About us

La Familia Ayahuasca offers small group (15 guest maximum) retreats in the area of Lake Atitlan, Guatemala.  These retreats are 8 days/7 nights/ 4 ceremonies in length (more details below in the "Event Highlights" section).

We recognize how important and "big" this work with Ayahuasca is.  We have been running retreats for the past seven years and through that experience we have found that small group retreats are an ideal setting for deep transformational work with the medicine.

Small groups allow us to provide a very high level of personal attention.  In addition, an intimate setting allows you direct access to Zach and Jess such that you can really get to know them on a personal level, ask questions about the medicine and the larger process of working with the medicine.

To take this concept even further, we want you to get to know us prior to you booking a retreat with us.  We want "all parties involved" to feel as comfortable as possible prior to booking your retreat.  Sure, this creates a few more steps in the booking process (an application and Zoom call with Zach & Jess), but again through past experience, we have discovered that these extra steps are very much worthwhile.

Experience, Training and Lineage:

Zach  began drinking Ayahuasca in 2009.  Within a year, he quit his job in finance, moved to Jenaro Hererra (4 hours south of Iquitos) in 2010 and stayed in Peru until mid 2014.

Upon his arrival to Jenaro Hererra, Zach began drinking Ayahuasca and doing shamanic plant dietas with the Galindo family. Zach’s main teachers were Maestro Gumercindo Galindo and Maestro Don Roldan Galindo (Gumercindo’s father).

In 2011 the Galindo family and Zach opened an Ayahuasca retreat center, La Familia Medicina. La Familia Medicina conducted Ayahuasca and shamanic plant dieta retreats from 2011 to mid 2014.  Late 2013,  Maestro Gumercindo Galindo honored Zach with the title of "Maestro".

Mid 2014 Zach returned to the USA and started Camino Do Amor in Bend, OR.  In mid 2016, Zach moved, with his wife Jess to Austin, TX to establish Iglesia Del Despertar.

Jess's healing journey began 9 years ago when she put her rheumatoid arthritis into remission solely through nutrition and without the help of the western medical establishment.  This process inspired Jess to become a Nutritional Therapist and Autoimmune Coach.  She then took this journey a step further by participating in a 9 day shamanic dieta/Ayahuasca retreat held by Camino Do Amor in 2015 (this of course is where she met Zach).

Since that retreat in 2015 Jess’s life has changed in every aspect since. She feels it has drawn forth her full human nature and true potential by releasing her from patterns and deep cultural conditioning.  It was also the beginning of her intense study of the medicine.

Jess began taking an active role in facilitating ceremony with Zach in 2016 with the formation of Iglesia Del Despertar and her growth and ability has grown rapidly since the beginning of her studies.

Currently we feel and have been told, that the whole (Zach and Jess) is greater than the sum of their parts as something magical happens when they work together in ceremony....they produce sacred and wonderful blend of heart based Feminine and Masculine healing energy.

Most recently, in 2018 Zach, Jess and their new born son, Bodhi, have decided to move to Guatemala to start "La Familia Ayahuasca" (Ayahuasca Family).

We hope you can come and visit us in our new home!!
