About us

Shambhala Training Level I: The Art of Being Human

Through the practice of meditation, we glimpse unconditional goodness as the ground of our existence. As we open to ourselves with gentleness and appreciation, we begin to see our potential as a genuine, dignified and caring human being.

Every weekend level includes meditation instruction, periods of meditation practice, one-on-one meetings to clarify questions, talks by senior teachers, group discussions and a concluding reception.

This program is open to everyone. There are no prerequisites required.

The Friday night talk is free and open to the public.

About the Way of Shambhala:

Shambhala Training is a sequence of weekend retreats suitable for anyone interested in exploring meditation as a means to develop qualities of opennes, gentleness, fearlessness, and confidence toward ourselves and our world.

Each weekend presents a progression of Shambhala warriorship—a path of nonaggression born from the willingness to meet our world without bias or judgment. This path shows how to take the challenges of everyday life as opportunities to increase our capacity for kindness and compassion.

The Way of Shambhala is composed of Shambhala Training Levels I-V, with each level followed by a five-week In Everyday Life course that expands upon what was offered in the weekend.

Over the course of a year, the Way of Shambhala introduces the entire Shambhala path. This series offers a glimpse of the Shambhala vision of enlightened society by emphasizing the ways in which meditation can impact our daily lives, and from there, how the sanity of meditation can expand to impact our community and our whole society.

The course Meditation in Everyday Life is recommended either before or after Level I. Please click here for a full description and chart of the Way of Shambhala.

Free Retreat Givewaway

We love you. And because we do, we're giving away another free retreat.

Why Retreat?

We asked people why they go on retreat, here's what they said:

Reconnecting with basic goodness in an environment of people who share a vision for a better society. Wimberly

Retreat Guru's Vision

We believe human beings are innately wise, strong and kind. This wisdom, although not always experienced, is always present. Going on retreat is a beautiful way to reconnect to our basic sanity and health. Our aspiration at Retreat Guru is to inspire people to experience authentic retreats and reconnect with their innate wisdom, strength and kindness.
