About This Event

Join us in one of the spiritual centers of South India for 10 glorious days of yoga, meditation, and local culture at a beautiful, remote, and peaceful location in nature, in short, the ideal retreat environment. Hosted by Ashok Tree, an idyllic yoga retreat center just outside the temple town of Tiruvannamalai, every detail has been carefully considered to maximize your relaxation, comfort, and wellness. Experience authentic, expert yoga and meditation instruction that will balance you as needed in a purpose-built facility that harmonizes perfectly with the surrounding landscape; delicious, healthy, organic vegetarian sattvic meals; local treks and tours to nature and sites of spiritual and cultural interest; Ayurvedic treatments at the wellness centre; and nature walks around the beautifully manicured grounds to view diverse wildlife. This 10-day retreat will give you the opportunity to fully release into your yoga & meditation practice, recharge your body and mind, and realign with your Self.

Venue Highlights

We believe that reconnecting with nature is part of the yoga retreat experience. Ashok Tree covers 13 acres of land on the edge of a village, which is on the outskirts of the town of Tiruvannamalai in South India. The land has been transformed over the past few years into a homeland for many new and returning species, with increasingly diverse flora & fauna. There are several fields of orchards and farmland growing many types of fruits and vegetables.

Nestled in between the gardens, orchards, and fields, the facilities for the yoga and meditation retreat include a large open-air Yoga shala, Meditation bowl, and temple area. Also on the Ashok Tree grounds is the Sita Devi Charity School, which educates around 100 primary school children per year, incorporating yoga and meditation into the curriculum. Karma yoga at Sita Devi is one of many optional daytime activities during the retreat.

Private & shared rooms available, all en-suite and air condition fitted in some rooms. All with views of Mt Arunachala to view the stunning sunrises and with views to the west. Ground floor rooms with veranda and 1st floor rooms with balconies.

At Ashok Tree, all of the food is organic, grown onsite, locally and the kitchen follows sattvic principles, i.e. all vegetarian, no eggs, no onion, no garlic & no mushrooms. Full board includes 3 daily healthy meals offered all prepared at time of meal in the onsite Ananda Kitchen. The most amazing seasonal fruit is available throughout the day to snack on along with chai, herbal teas (some grown onsite) & water. All drinking water and water used in the kitchen is bottled mineral water. The ashram sees yoga as a way of life, not just a physical practice, and the approach to nutrition / food is just one example.

Tiruvannamalai is served by three airports in the region, Chennai, Bangalore and Trichy (Tiruchirappalli). Chennai Airport Transfers are included in the Retreat Fee; other airport transfers can be arranged at an additional cost.

Why Retreat?

We asked people why they go on retreat, here's what they said:

Retreats inspire me to continue to practice and fuel my journey. I always find specified intention and feel it projects me closer to my purpose. Shannon

Retreat Guru's Vision

Going on retreat is a beautiful way to reconnect to our basic sanity and health. Our aspiration at Retreat Guru is to inspire people to experience authentic retreats and reconnect with their innate wisdom, strength and kindness.
