About This Event

What to expect of this one week writing workshop?

Mornings: These sessions will be about exploring your creativity. Exercises designed to help develop creative skills, with play and experimentation in mind. These will draw on life experiences as well as exploring ways to develop fiction.

Afternoons: These sessions will look more closely at technique. We will look at how to layer plots, how to develop symbolism, how to work with dialogue and how to critique and edit.

All sessions will be delivered in a fun, open and engaging way. The emphasis will be on enjoying the process of writing. There will be time in the sessions for reading and feedback.

Anthony has published two novels and a collection of short stories. His BBC Radio 4 play won the Alfred Bradley Award for Radio Drama and he recently worked with Bristol Old Vic on the film, Myself in Other Lives.

His latest book (written with Eve Makis) is a guided journal to help people write their life stories and
is published by HarperCollins. He is a senior lecturer in Creative Writing at Nottingham Trent University.

RORY MACPARLAND My week at Villa Maecenas was uplifting and glorious, for mind, body and soul. From sunrise to magical sunset we were treated to delicious nourishing food, yoga which challenged both physically and mentally, and spiritual moments of mindfulness and discussion. Like-minded people in a wonderful place doing amazing things, thats Villa Maecenas, looking forward to the next experience. Villa Maecenas guest 2017 SOPHIE BARRETT I booked in wanting rest, relaxation and inspiration and that's exactly what I got. The perfect balance of structure and spontaneity - I came away well nourished, calmer and with friends for life. Our meditation teacher stood out for me although our yoga teachers were also brilliant and the setting exquisite. An Ibizan getaway that your body and mind will thank you for for years to come. I can't wait to return Xxxx Villa Maecanas surpassed all expectations. There is a schedule of activities, delicious menu, and a beautiful setting, but there is no conformity and must-do's. You are utterly at your own discretion to make it what you like and need. Our wonderful host had thought about all the little details that make a difference and nothing was too much trouble. If you are up for being open-minded about what a retreat can offer you, I cannot recommend a stay here highly enough. It will re-energise you, teach you new things and give you a glow for months to come. I feel super lucky to have discovered Villa Maecenas. Naz Sadri

Why Retreat?

We asked people why they go on retreat, here's what they said:

Reconnecting with myself after a very crazy few months with a new baby! Just having that feeling of being grounded again. But also having an opportunity to connect with new amazing people. Getting exposed and Inspired by new (to me) yoga instructors (and community). Being in the presence of real, authentic and raw emotion (the whole spectrum).. So many reasons! Alyson
