RORY MACPARLAND My week at Villa Maecenas was uplifting and glorious, for mind, body and soul. From sunrise to magical sunset we were treated to delicious nourishing food, yoga which challenged both physically and mentally, and spiritual moments of mindfulness and discussion. Like-minded people in a wonderful place doing amazing things, thats Villa Maecenas, looking forward to the next experience. The perfect balance of structure and spontaneity - I came away well nourished, calmer and with friends for life. Our meditation teacher stood out for me although our yoga teachers were also brilliant and the setting exquisite. An Ibizan getaway that your body and mind will thank you for for years to come. I can't wait to return Xxxx Villa Maecanas surpassed all expectations. There is a schedule of activities, delicious menu, and a beautiful setting, but there is no conformity and must-do's. You are utterly at your own discretion to make it what you like and need. Our wonderful host had thought about all the little details that make a difference and nothing was too much trouble. If you are up for being open-minded about what a retreat can offer you, I cannot recommend a stay here highly enough. Event Highlights

  • Local market and farm visits, winery tours, beach walks, tour with archaeologist about the history of the island, optional yoga, hikes in nature, talks on sustainability and reduction of non-biodegradable waste. Yoga is available and optional.

  • Live music, dancing, movie nights, games, village and hippie market trips.

Schedule

Day 1:
Arrival
Course description, notebooks and recipe packs. Talk on the rich agricultural and culinary history of the island and focus on the importance of consuming local produce instead of shipped/imported goods.
A gourmet 4-course meal cooked for you by the chef Alex

Day 2:
Breakfast.
Cooking lesson: Basic cooking and knife skills. Preparation of Ibicencan classics such as fish cooked in salt and pollo payes.
Light lunch: you will eat the dishes prepared in the first cooking lesson
Free time to enjoy the surroundings or therapies.
Workshop on planning dinners for large numbers to make entertaining easy
Dinner will be prepared by chef Alex

Day 3:
Breakfast.
Guided walk in the mountains showing the various edible plants and herbs that grow in Ibiza. You will pick homegrown herbs to make a refreshing tea when you return for lunch.
Light lunch prepared by chef Alex.
Cooking lesson: You will be preparing your dinner with the locally grown organic chicken learning prepare and cook the whole bird along with vegetable side dishes to complement.
Dinner will be food prepared by the group.

Day 4:
Breakfast.
Talk on the benefits of using fresh produce and the provenance of product that leads to sustainability; also the use seasonal produce instead of imported goods, as to reduce carbon emissions.
Light lunch: Traditional gazpacho with salpicon de mariscos (seafood).
Free time or a chance to take any of the therapies offered.
Dinner at Es Ventall. Traditional Ibecencan food with a modern twist.

Day 5:
Breakfast.
Tour of a local organic farm. Chat with the grower as to the farming tradition and how to grow food using methods that are sustainable & ecologically responsible.
Cooking lesson: Creating 4 vegetarian salads for a light lunch from vegetables picked from the organic farm that day and how to use food economically (reducing waste).
Lunch with the dishes prepared.
Tour with an archaeologist to learn the rich history of Ibiza from the first Phoenician settlers up 'til the present day.
Dinner prepared by chef Alex.

Day 6:
Breakfast.
After breakfast planning our final dinner and shopping for the goods.
Free time.
Light lunch.
Workshop on the use of herbs and spices in cooking and their health benefits. Layering flavours and the importance of seasoning.
Cooking lesson: chef Alex will teach you tricks for preparation and presentation so you can wow guests at your dinner parties.
Dinner: We will serve & eat together to discuss the past week and a chance to ask any final questions you might have.

Day 7:
Breakfast.
Free time to explore the island.
Transfers to the airport

Venue Highlights

Located in amidst the forests and fields of wild flowers of northern Ibiza, but only a few minutes away from quaint white washed villages and farm houses scattered around the island.
Guests are invited to enjoy our charming 400 years old finca, nested on a large lavender field, designed by Rolf Blaskstad, which sits amongst 4 hectares of wild flowers, forests and mountains. A truly authentic Ibizan experience.

Accommodations

We have available 3 types of accommodation - Twin beds and sharing bathroom.
double king size bed with sharing a bathroom and double kingsize bed with ensuite. ( The king size bed can be shared with a friend or partner and that makes a very economical way to participate.

Menu/Cuisine

Guests will taste fresh Mediterranean food and experiment the Farm to Table concept of eating very fresh food that retains all nutritional value and no carbon waste - we can offer a vegan menu and vegetarian if needed but this Workshop will have fish and some meat as part of the classes. Let us know your dietary requirements.

Directions

The best way to get to us from IBIZA AIRPORT is to take a taxi to Villa Maecenas or if you like, we can organise an airport transfer for you. The finca is located 20km from the airport in the north of the island, 5 minutes from San Miguel or San Joan.
