About This Event
Dennis McKenna’s prolific career in ethnopharmacology, botany, and psychedelic science spans a wide variety of disciplines, avenues, and countries. He has given numerous lectures on topics ranging from plant medicines, to consciousness, to spirituality, to pharmacology, and has authored or co-authored over 50 peer-reviewed scientific papers and written books, including “The Brotherhood of the Screaming Abyss: My Life with Terence McKenna”, and “The Invisible Landscape” with his brother Terence. He has also organized conferences, served as principle investigator for various research projects related to ayahuasca and other plant medicines, served as professor of Botanical Medicines and Ethnopharmacology, and conducted extensive fieldwork in the Peruvian, Colombian, and Brazilian Amazon. You can read his full bio here.
Dr. McKenna’s advisory role to Soltara and extensive knowledge of psychedelics and plant medicines has informed our mission of spreading high quality information about these healing modalities. As such, we are excited and honored to be hosting Dr. McKenna for a special week of integrative medicine work, July 15 – 22, 2018. Offering a series of lectures and workshops as adjuncts to ayahuasca ceremony, Dr. McKenna will weave his scientific and cultural understanding of ayahuasca, psychedelics, consciousness, science, and spirituality throughout the week, providing an opportunity for participants to dive deeply into the world of holistic healing, from both an objective and experiential perspective.
Guests will embark on a journey of self- and world-discovery, as Dr. McKenna takes us through topics such as:
Climbing the Vine: 45 Years of Ayahuasca: Ayahuasca has been the focus of my professional research in Ethnopharmacology since I first came to Peru in 1981 to conduct fieldwork for my doctoral thesis at the University of British Columbia. Since then it has become integrated into my own spiritual practice while continuing to remain important to me as a subject for scientific investigation. I can honestly say that my most interesting travels and personal adventures as a scientist and human being have been due to ayahuasca. In this workshop, I will share some of these personal reminiscences plus a brief overview of some of the science behind this mysterious medicine.
Origins of the Imagination: Speculations on the Antiquity of Consciousness: No one knows for sure when consciousness first emerged in our species but we can speculate about the environmental and evolutionary forces that contributed to it. One major factor was the controlled use of fire, which stimulated the migration from arboreal to savannah environments, and vastly expanded nutritional options, contributing to omnivory. Fire also provided the fundamental tools needed for pharmacology and chemistry. Migration into savannah environments would also have brought ancient hominids into contact with Psilocybin mushrooms that co-existed in this environment as symbionts on ungulate species that were also major food sources for the hominids. Accidental or deliberate ingestion of these species may have been a catalyst for the emergence of cognition, symbolic thought, and language. The fossil record is incomplete, but we find evidence of human consciousness in the artifacts that show evidence of abstract thinking and internal visualization.
What is not Patented is Prohibited: The Exploitation, Ownership, and Criminalization of Nature: Indigenous people have accumulated an intricate and deeply-rooted knowledge of their biological environment. Historically, outside nations have come in and utilized this knowledge and plants for their own purposes, benefiting greatly from them but with little to no reciprocity for the indigenous stewards of such knowledge. As a result, there is a current cultural clash between modern nations and those who have maintained the ecological habitats and knowledge of these plants. This talk discusses the history, current issues and concerns surrounding indigenous knowledge, intellectual property rights, and “biopiracy” – the theft of indigenous knowledge and genetic resources.
Join us July 15 – 22, 2018 for a week of integrative medicine work and deep spiritual healing, combining the time-honored practices of traditional Shipibo shamanism with an in-depth look at some of the most fascinating topics facing humanity today.

OUR COMMITMENT TO YOU
We are called to serve medicine in sacred ceremony with integrity, humility, and compassion. By creating a safe space and working only with experienced, well-intentioned shamans and facilitators, we uphold the lessons of the medicines and build a foundation of mutual trust, authenticity, and respect. We are not gurus, preachers, or enlightened beings – our shamans are healers who humbly transmit the knowledge and healing energies of the plants, and our facilitators are devoted to helping guests face, process, and explore difficult experiences and emotions, handle projections, manage expectations, and surrender to the process. We strive to uphold the highest integrity in everything we do and be a beacon for responsible, safe, and ethical practices, such that our guests feel safe and supported to get the most out of their healing.
Venue HighlightsAt Soltara, we work with indigenous Peruvian Shipibo female and male shamans, and have decades of combined experience working at top-rated Ayahuasca retreat centers in the Peruvian Amazon. We are honored to promote the expansion of plant medicines and holistic health in an accessible, respectful, informed way.
One thing that we noticed at the centers we came from was the strong focus on the retreat experience itself, with much less emphasis on the before and after – but preparing for the work and effectively integrating the lessons learned into your daily life is as important as learning the lessons themselves. As such, we want to provide a space to experience these medicines directly, but also ensure that we provide the tools and resources for anyone to begin, continue, or integrate their healing journey, in a way that is best for them.
Our approach to these objectives is three-fold:
- We work with a highly experienced clinical psychologists and integration specialists as part of our preparation and integration support team. These team members have a foot in both Western and traditional medicine practices, understanding health from a holistic perspective that incorporates the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual bodies. We offer individual and group sessions to help you get the most out of your experience.
- We provide high-quality videos, informative content, and educational resources surrounding holistic healing, shamanism, indigenous culture, psychedelic science, spiritual practices, and tips for preparation and integration, among others.
- We invite you to co-create a community with us that fosters open dialogue and a safe platform for people to connect, learn, heal, and share their processes with each other. We at Soltara have found, through our experience, that so much of healing comes from being vulnerable, breaking down walls, letting people in, and holding space for others to do the same. When we authentically share stories, struggles, and ideas, we open up the space to figure things out on a deep level and remember that we are not alone.
The crucial first step to healing the world is healing ourselves, and there has never been a better time. The decisions we make on an individual, societal, and global scale over the next few years will determine the trajectory and course of our survival and our legacy. This is a mission and a movement that is bigger than all of us, but that includes us, and thus it is our humble hope to contribute in whatever way we can, and empower you to do the same.

Menu/CuisineWe believe healing even takes place in the kitchen. We take on the mantra by the Greek physician, Hippocrates: “Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food.” We honor the role of food in our lives and expand it beyond its primary purpose of bodily nourishment – food can be an avenue to dig deeper into ourselves, consciously looking at our patterns and mindsets surrounding not just what we eat, but how and why we eat what we do. Our eating habits don’t just affect our mental health, they also reflect it.
At Soltara, we aim to help you jumpstart this process of connection through conscious cooking on all levels. Diet is an important part of the healing process, both on its own and also to help prepare the mind and body for plant medicine work. We work closely with our shamans to prepare wholesome, delicious meals that adhere to the traditional dietary guidelines of working with ayahuasca. All of our meals are freshly prepared in-house by our loving kitchen staff. From fresh smoothies and juices every morning, to plant-based meals emphasizing local, organic, and sustainable produce, to lean proteins such a chicken and fish, we celebrate the rich local flavor of Costa Rican cuisine, and offer a chance to experience a connection to the land and culture while nourishing the body, mind, and spirit.
DirectionsPlease ensure you reserve your spot for your retreat with us prior to booking your flights. If you have any questions during the registration process or are concerned any health conditions (including bipolar, schizophrenia, or psychosis) may prevent you from attending a retreat, please contact us first.
We offer pickup on Day 1 (Sunday) of your retreat at 12 PM from the Hampton Inn and Suites, located about 15 minutes from the Juan Santamaría International Airport (SJO).
We recommend arriving the day before, on Saturday, and booking your stay at the Hampton Inn, in order to give you time to relax and settle in before beginning your journey to Soltara.
If you plan to arrive on Sunday, we recommend booking your flight to arrive by 9 AM that day, to allow time to get through customs (which can sometimes take up to 2 hours) and get to Hampton Inn in time for the 12 PM shuttle. You will arrive at Soltara around 4 pm that day, after an approximately 2 – 2.5 hour ride through the beautiful rolling hills of Costa Rica, and catching a 2:30 pm ferry ride across to Gulf of Nicoya. We are located about 10 minutes from the ferry port.
Our retreat packages end on Sundays. If you are returning to SJO, please book your departing flights after 3:30 PM. You will be returned to San Jose by 12:30 PM.
We look forward to supporting you in an immersive experience in nature, community, and medicine!

Lynne Benson Stangl April 29, 2020Soul and-Eye-Opening Experience!
I had the opportunity at a most serendipitous time in my life (imagine that?) to experience the wonders and magic of this plant medicine in the majestic lush country of Costa Rica. I attended this beautiful healing center from 5/5 - 5/13/19. To say that I was completely awestruck would be an understatement! I participated in all four of the ayahuasca plant ceremonies; as a result, my heart shifted open and my mind was summarily blown. The staff was top-notch, professional, and always available. I felt completely safe, physically and mentally-prepared, and "heard". The details concerning every step of this journey were all-encompassing. The attentive team at Soltara thought of and took care of every aspect and every eventuality before, during, and after my retreat, which laid the groundwork (and afterward, the integration) for my complete immersion into my personal journey. Having a small number in my group also added to my experience, since we all achieved a unique level of personal attention and were able to really connect with others, if we so chose. The remarkable shamans were healers in the Shipibo tradition. After imbibing in the medicinal brew, the hallowed icaros they sang to me and the sacred ceremonies they conducted imparted tools which I have utilized in my personal spiritual growth and in my expanded consciousness. I felt, and have continued to feel, more positive, renewed and less ego-driven. The integration workbooks I was given upon my arrival were an invaluable tool that helped me when I returned to "the real world". Through these wonderful tools, which included follow-up calls and supportive integrative virtual "circles", I am continuing my "journey" at home. My heart is happier and I have more empathy for others and more compassion for our planet. I couldn't have asked for a better experience, brought by such a wonderful team of supportive and truly bonus people! I can't wait to return, which will hopefully be in April 2021.
Kent Hector April 02, 2020Transformative Experience
I concur heartily with Brian’s well written review. I found my experience in working with Ayahuasca at Soltara to be both healing and life enhancing. I attribute this experience not only to this incredible plant medicine, but also to the wise and loving people working here who I found to be very supportive and dedicated to making this type of experience happen for me and for other participants. My appreciation of these fine people cannot be expressed enough.
Martin Pelchat March 27, 2020Great place for a retreat; unfortunately the aya had no tangible effect on me
CENTER RESPONSE: Hello Martin and thank you for your review and for sharing your thoughts about Soltara and your experience here. We are glad that you found the staff and accommodations supportive during your stay with us. In terms of your medicine experience, I hope you don't mind us sharing a bit about what we share with guests when it comes to the medicine, as well as the vomitivo preparation. It is important to understand that we are working with a system that is hundreds, if not thousands, of years old and is quite different than what people are accustomed to with modern medicine. With that being said, everything we do at Soltara is focused on providing each guest with a level of structure and support in order for them to be able to get the healing that is needed. We would like to clarify a bit why we have guests start the process with a vomitivo. This is a part of how the Shipibo work with the medicine as a way to prepare individuals before first drinking the medicine. It is an important component of the Shipibo healing system and serves two main purposes. The first being that the vomitivo helps to begin the emotional, energetic, and physical cleansing process by releasing stored energies within the body. As most people tend to store emotions in their gut, the vomitivo is used to help begin flushing out these energies and to open a person up energetically. In addition, if a guest has not adhered to the pre-retreat dieta upon arrival, the vomitivo also helps to clean out any toxins that could still be in a person's system. The second purpose for the vomitivo is to begin to connect each guest with the plant energies that they will be working with. The plant that we use for vomitivo is Herba Luisa, also known as lemongrass, and is viewed by the Shipbio healers as being a "light" bearing plant. This plant is seen to have an abundance of energetic light and through the vomitivo, it is able to penetrate into the energetic body. Although this may seem counterintuitive as guests are throwing up the very tea that they have just drunk, quite the opposite is happening. The liquid being thrown up is actually carrying any toxins and negative, or dense, energies while the spirit of the plant is being absorbed into the system. While most guests feel "lighter" after participating in a vomitivo, it is also not uncommon for others to have headaches or experience strong waves of emotions. The Shipibo view this as being part of the healing process and it is actually seen as a positive rather than a negative as things are starting to move on a physical and emotional level. While we do not require any guest to believe what we believe when it comes to the efficacy of plant medicines and the Shipibo system, we do feel that it's important to state that Ayahuasca is not a panacea by any means. Each person who comes to work with the medicine will get something out of it - oftentimes it's not what was originally thought of as needing healing or understanding. Furthermore, going through a retreat is just the beginning of the actual healing process for people, as the integration of the ceremonies can often take several months to fully understand. We would encourage you to reach out to our Integration Team and speak with Sean. If you haven't already taken advantage of your free initial session with him, we would encourage you to do so. If you have, please let us know as we'd be more than happy to follow up with you. Thank you again for trusting us to be a part of your journey. Kind regards, Soltara ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ PARTICIPANT REVIEW In terms of a retreat location, Soltara is top notch. The facilities are fabulous, you have everything you need, the beach is great, the food is great, the staff is supportive, etc. In terms of the ceremonies and the medecine, well they seem to have done nothing for me and I found them to be quite long. Moreover, the 'vomitivo' exercise from the first day sure messed me up. I still don't understand what the rationale behind that was except maybe to see to what extremes participants were willing to go so that the medicine has a right effect on them. Lots of people in my group got what they wanted from the aya experience, so if you are willing to pay top dollar, Soltara is your place.
Brian Newman March 16, 2020Impeccably Structured Retreat
I had high expectations for the retreat at Soltara and the actual experience far exceeded my expectations. A few components contributed to that: -the remarkable facilitators Scott and Erika (and Matt although he wasn't facilitating), I've rarely met people as clear, bright, wise, and firmly compassionate -the structure of the program itself was impeccable, I design workshops for living and am highly critical of programs so it's saying quite a lot to say that there is absolutely nothing that I feel could be done better. Perfect blend of group work, solo work, time alone, time for recovery -the healers themselves. To know that there are people like this in the world warms my heart and gives me hope -the yoga sessions by PDK - I can't imagine the retreat without them. Her support was one of the primary binding elements of the program for me and my co-retreatants. Amazing ability to read the room and bring in lightness, compassion, humor. I'm in love with PDK. -in spite of the rigorous food restrictions, Jessie and his team prepared amazing meals, but it was the care with which they were presented that really got me. Beautifully arranged salads, everything prepared with care and love that could be felt. Amazing. -there was a lot of cleaning up to do and the cleaning staff kept the moloca and the rooms absolutely shining, while also maintaining a background discretion so we hardly knew they were there Thank you so much. I'll tell everyone who is considering Soltara that they should go, and happy to act as a reference if I can ever be of help. Thank you for bringing this to world.
N.W March 13, 2020The best of the best!
I stayed at Soltara for one week and I was absolutely blown away with the overall experience! When arrived, we were all welcomed with big warm smiles and bright eyes from all the staff members! Sacha and Matt were so welcoming during the trip to get to Soltara, really great vibes right off the bat! We were shown our rooms to drop our luggage and Erica one of the facilitators gave a great detailed tour of the property! The views from the common areas and all the rooms are absolutely stunning! At this point you already know you selected the top notch! Now its dinner time and Jesse the chef is a genius at getting creative on a restricted Ayahuasca diet...amazingly delicious, every meal, every time! For myself personally I had even more strict dietary restrictions and let me tell you he tailored every meal and made separate dishes for me and smoothies, EVERY TIME, he never ever forgot about me! Through out the week the schedule is PERFECTLY planned out so you have just enough support from the facilitators, free time to go to the ocean or chill by the pool or explore the trails and process whats come up in the Ayahuasca ceremonies, group shares and meeting with the Shaman. Erica and Scott the facilitators are most definitely some of the kindest purest souls I have ever met in my life. The way they both care for each and every individual, spends the time out of their day to make sure every single person feels held, heard, supported and safe really blows my mind as to how they do it so genuinely and as soon as you feel you need them they are right there with open arms. I can't express enough how kind these two beautiful people are and how pure their approach is. Even after the trip is over they still keep in touch with you every step of the way during your integration process back home, they are right there supporting you even when you are home! I am forever grateful for these two! PDK did the yoga there in the mornings and also prepped us for the pre-ceremonies. She was a ball of joy, so much fun, so kind and loving and her energy and big big smile makes you feel you always have a friend to turn to. Her words before the ceremonies make you so much more at ease and is a breath of fresh air before you start to really get deep into your work. She turns your fears into confidence within minutes and you go into you ceremony a new born warrior! I could go on and on about how the staff members truly make this experience a memorable and unforgettable one. From the location, property, schedule, staff, nature the vibes and energy was absolutely amazing. Soltara exceeded my expectations I left knowing it was by far the BEST EXPERIENCE and TRIP I have ever been on in my 29 years of life! If you are looking for an amazing and safe Ayahuasca retreat to go on and are having a hard time picking, look no further, this one the ONE!
A M March 13, 2020Wonderful experience
I was lucky to go to Soltara recently and went because it was highly recommended by many friends. I have been on a healing journey for over 10 years and wanted to experience Ayahuasca. Soltara provides a wonderful, wonderful environment for you to really work with, dive deep into and integrate the magic that is Ayahuasca! This was not an easy experience for me, it felt like a hero's journey! But the staff at Soltara are amazing and made me feel very supported. I couldn't be any more pleased with my experience and I highly recommend Soltara if you are looking for an Ayahuasca experience.
Anna Klüg March 11, 2020Better than I hoped
The food was next level amazing. The yoga was next level amazing (energetic, therapeutic, light, fun). The facilitators did a great job at creating a safe space for guests to open up and heal. The facilities are very comfortable. My only wish is that they provided milk with breakfast (non dairy).
Elisa Janelle Alpizar Onorato March 10, 2020A safe space to dive deep
This was an incredible experience. I came to Soltara to work on my own self love, and that is exactly what I walked away with. The Shamans were incredible, and the facilitators were very knowledgeable and helpful. Every step of the way the facilitators made sure I was comfortable and were always available to talk. I highly recommend Soltara for anyone wanting looking for a safe space and strong container to dive deep.
Mark Anderson March 05, 2020Life expanding
Highly recommend...staff, food, facilities, support, location all excellent
Michelle Walcott February 29, 2020Amazing!
Soltara offers a beautiful experience that supports true healing & transformation. They approach the process with such respect & deliver an experience that meets you where you are. I felt cradled by the healers & facilitators & the entire staff is lovely. It’s a small group on each retreat, which allows for personal attention & connection. The setting is beautiful & there’s time in the schedule to relax & enjoy the beach & pool. The chef does a great job of honoring the dieta while keeping things tasty. I highly recommend Soltara for anyone wanting to explore plant medicine.
Katie Quaill February 29, 2020Thank you, Soltara!
There are few words to truly encapsulate the experience of Soltara. If you are looking into your own healing journey I encourage you to book at Soltara. From start to finish I felt so well taken care of by every staff member, our amazing facilitators, and healers - Maestro Soi and Maestra Sylvia. I had the divine pleasure to be surrounded by the most inspirational medicina family, every brave soul collectively made the cohort whole, and we held each other with much respect and love. Soltara's property provides breathtaking views and privacy that allows you to unplug, unwind, and fully commit to your healing journey surrounded by nature and wildlife. The magic that happens in the Moloka...chills. And Mother Ayahuasca, thank you thank you thank you. I await your beckoning for me to return to do more work, and when I do, I'll be booking another week at Soltara. Much love.
MM February 29, 2020Value for money tbc
Hello MM, thank you for sharing your review and your experience at Soltara. We appreciate you sharing your feedback with us and would love to follow up with you directly to ensure you are feeling supported in your integration, as well as receive any direct feedback regarding operations which may have been lacking in your experience. We are glad to hear that you found our programming, healers, facilitators, and facilities supportive for your retreat. In terms of our integration program, we would love to clarify the integration resources and support available to you as you integrate your experience and begin the next chapter of your healing journey. If you feel extra support is needed, we empower you to reach out to us directly and we would be more than happy to follow up with you. Our programming and integration support staff emphasize a strong focus on integration, both during and after a retreat with us. We work closely with clinical psychologists who also have years of experience working with the medicine as well as certifications in psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy, and as such, our integration program involves various components both on and off-site, including: "The Hero's Journal" Integration journal - this artsy and personalize-able journal is given to everyone on arrival, and takes you through the process of reflection, intention-setting, ceremony, and building your own integration plan. This framework is vetted by our clinical psychologist advisors and empowers you to set yourself up for success based on your goals and process during your stay. We have integration workshops throughout your stay which incorporate different aspects of the workbook and are designed to help you flesh out an actionable plan from the time you begin your process at Soltara, to help carry you back into the default world and enact the insights you gain from your experience Our retreat programming is centered around helping you immerse yourself in different healing modalities, many of which you can take back with you (bodywork, pranayama breathwork, meditation, nature immersion, etc.), to help you cultivate habits that feel right for you and can help you continue to maintain the healing work done during your retreat. Our facilitators and teachers are there to support and guide you in pursuing the healthy habits that feel right for you. Our virtual community of loving and incredible souls, all of whom are also going through their own healing journeys, welcomes you with open hearts to share in the integration process and expand your knowledge base. We have online community forums through our social media channels - please check us out on Facebook and Instagram and join our Facebook group Soltara Collective, if you would like! We offer 12 weeks of post-retreat follow-up emails with resources and content designed to help you check in with yourself and continue to support your journey back home. These emails have also been collaborated with and vetted by our clinical psychologist advisors, and include videos from our staff and community along with resources and links to our integration support team. We also offer free, regular monthly virtual group integration circles with members of our integration support staff to share in real-time the successes and struggles of your processes, answer questions, and connect with each other in the weeks and months following your retreat. We connect guests with psychotherapists, who also have plant medicine experience and are certified in psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy, who are able to work with you in 1-on-1 sessions after your retreat to dive deeper into your integration and further explore and maintain your healing process. We offer the first session for free (25-min for our 5- and 7-night retreats, and 50 minutes for our 12-night retreats). After the first session, our therapists offer a discounted rate of $99 per 50-min session, with opportunities for package discounts and financial aid, as needed. For those who are struggling with the financial commitment and could use the extra support, we are happy to work with guests on an individual basis. Our Resource Hub (soltara.co/resource-hub) connects guests to different platforms and support networks, to find additional integration support as well as further reading and education, which are vetted by Soltara and part of our trusted network. We are very excited about the framework we have created with the help of our advisors to help guests maximize the benefits of the healing work, and as always, we are continuously evolving and fine-tuning our approach. It is important to note that this medicine is not a panacea, and we do not promise that everyone will feel better after a retreat. Working with this medicine is very complex, and will typically work with you in ways you cannot anticipate, in many cases bringing up deeply rooted patterns and emotions. Sometimes, when you are in the process of cleansing and purifying your emotions, your mood can become low. Like any cleanse, it is common to feel worse during the healing process before feeling better. If this is the case for you, please don't hesitate to reach out if you feel extra support is needed - you are not alone, and we are here to support you and your commitment to your healing journey however we can. We appreciate you choosing us as the space for your journey, and would love to connect with you directly to follow up. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ PARTICIPANT REVIEW: Positive experience at well managed retreat with comfortable facilities, well structured program, knowledgeable facilitators, experienced Shamans. Some organisational issues in re to simple tasks which suggest to have a look into operational efficiency. Price tag not justifiable based on service provision. Focus on integration is being heavily promoted but consists of a free 25 mins call with a Psychologist post retreat and the option to book follow up sessions at a steep rate as well as a booklet and follow up emails that are not in line with expectations raised - particularly not in light of their existing network of advisors. Positive experience overall but overpriced and room for improvement in re to operations and integration.
Yen Duong February 24, 2020Amazing!
This literally one of best things I have ever done. Everyone one on staff was amazing- the facilitators (Erica and Todd), maestro/maestra (Suey and Silvia) and the mediation/yoga guru (PDK). I have always avoided mediation, yin yoga and yoga Nidra because I like intensive yoga. But after a week with PDK, I will definitely add those classes to my routine. The food is so good, that I wanted to take Jesse, the chef, home with me. I can definitely say that I’m thankful to have accommodations with A/C, especially after ceremony and after a brutally hot day. The people we met and the experiences we had are completely priceless. If you have any hesitation, I recommend just doing it. You won’t regret it. Namaste and Irake!
Jason Blydell February 11, 2020Unforgettable experience!
Top notch staff! From the healers, facilitators, chef, to support staff everyone was warm, welcoming, and absolute professionals. Pristine location with 5-star amenities. This experience was life changing and the deepest of human connections were formed in just a week. Please keep the group sizes the same or smaller as it allowed us to go so deep and keep things very intimate, making it so memorable and creating lifelong friendships. So grateful for your commitment to healing, growth, and the ancient traditions of plant medicine.
Angela Leo February 10, 2020Incredible experience.
Incredible experience. It's work, but worth it all!!! Today is my first day back home and I'm looking forward to integrating all that I've learned into my day-to-day life. The ENTIRE TEAM at Soltara was incredibly supportive in helping each individual through their journey. Lovely place, lovely people. Magical. THANK YOU!!!
Kyle Buller February 04, 2020Beautiful, Healing, and Safe! Highly recommended!
Wow... I am not too sure where to start. I attended a week-long retreat (Jan 5th – 12th) at Soltara in Costa Rica. It was such a profound, beautiful, and healing experience! If you're feeling called to work with plant medicines, I highly recommend checking Soltara out! What drew me to Soltara originally was the testimonials that close friends/colleagues provided. After hearing about their positive experiences at the retreat, I decided to dig in a little deeper to learn more about their organization. The second thing that really stood out for me was their advisory board. When I saw that Dr. Gabor Maté, Dr. Dennis McKenna, Dr. Bia Labate, and Dr. Clancy Cavnar are on the advisory board, I immediately felt Soltara might be a special place. The container (the physical space and the emotional/psychological space) felt very safe and nourishing. The level of safety and care that the facilitators and staff provide really stood out to me. Taking the plunge to explore plant medicines is never easy and takes a bit of courage. The staff and Soltara created an environment where it felt safe to let go and to really trust the process. Again, I highly recommend checking out Soltara if the journey to explore plant medicine calls you. If you want to listen to a debrief of my experience, you can listen to the following podcast episode to hear more about my experience at Soltara - https://bit.ly/36XIcvZ Many thanks to the team at Soltara for creating such a beautiful space for people to explore and heal!
Scott Benson January 26, 2020Incredible beyond words
From the moment of arrival it became apparent I was in good hands. Each and every one of the facilitators/staff members deeply cared for me, listened to me, guided me. They made what was an intimidating experience for me, seem like a walk in the park. I could not imagine doing this work anywhere else. Everyone of the 17 others in the group said the same thing. I feel so greatful for soltara, the mastro’s, the staff, the other participants and the medicine. On day 3 I regretted the fact I only had one week as it became apparent there was more work I had to do. I inquired and managed to get a spot the following week. I will return tomorrow for another 5 days. Highly recommend!
Eva Dominyak January 25, 2020Highly recommend
I am so happy to choose Soltara to have my first ayahouasca experience there. I felt safe and well cared for from the beginning of stepping into the property. Our groupchats were very helpful, the staff was AMAZING, food was delicious! I can't recommend this place enough. Already thinking when could I go back again ????
Winny Ruffino January 20, 2020Profoundly beautiful, magical, magnificent experience
So, the Shipipo tradition is so profoundly beautiful and quite different from my previous experience in CR. I truly love Soltara and that I was there with 2 other older, wise women made it really fabulous. We called ourselves the 3 Crones????. Our group was diverse in age, profession and experience with plant medicine. Truly a beautiful group, we mostly came as strangers and ended so close and connected. The ceremonies were all the same basic format: 1st night an intro dose, though if you have experience-you choose the dose, then after you choose the dose and seconds are available fabulous Facilitators (4) and both female and male Shamans. The molaka was extraordinary, maybe 60 ft in diameter screened but open Bathrooms for the 14 of us were totally accessible and more than adequate. Perched overlooking the Gulf of Nicoya, we could hear the ocean, birds, howler monkeys... We go up in order of our mats, this order rotates during the 4 ceremonies, 2 and then a day off then the final 2. We all drink in turn, going up 1 by 1 to the Maestra and facilitators, we choose our dose, hold our intentions drink and are given 1-2 mapacho cigarettes. We wait and as the medicine begins to take effect 30-40 minutes and all have gone up to drink, the icaros start. OMG, OMG, OMG! Both Maestros start on opposite sides and they each sing to each of us in turn, their singing filling the Molaka with indescribable beauty, magic and power. Many purged and many struggled. I was blessed by one ecstatic ceremony after another. I went to heaven, I was forgiven my sins and loved so deeply that I am still having ceremonies 3 nights after our last night. There is really wonderful integration and we have ample time to process the experience. Gentle and loving, great food, beautiful setting. No pressure to buy or sell anything from Soltara, other than a Shipipo market on Sat where the Maestros set up webbings etc to sell. Both transportation and medicine are included. The only critique is the very, very steep hill to get to our rooms which were lovely, air conditioned and quite comfortable. I believe they are thinking of getting a golf cart to help with going up and down the incline.
Brandon Bogus January 19, 2020Death & Rebirth
The main theme of my ceremonial experiences was that of death and rebirth. I felt a deep cleansing of many of the toxicities in my life. The facilitators are phenomenal. The design and format is flawless. So much work, thought and effort has gone in to every detail of the retreat. The food is as good as it gets for the required dieta and the facilities are almost that of a luxury resort. Thanks for the wonderful stay!
En Na January 07, 2020Miraculous
The way I got to attend was magic itself and a string of lucky coincidences. Most importantly, the second I got in touch with Soltara (which was first contact with then unbeknownst to me co-founder and amazing human being Melissa by phone) everything was extremely welcoming and authentic as well as down to earth. Transportation, accommodation, food and guidance through the experience as a whole was extraordinary as well as very supportive, welcoming, always friendly and appropriate to experience and beyond. Everyone in the team was real and straight forward, always supportive. Different characters, hand-picked. Truly professional with a lot of heart. Amazing work of everyone. Amazing experience. Forever grateful and always humbled.
Steffen Bang December 28, 2019Super comfort and top professionel!
Soltara is an amazing place and I do indeed recommened it!
Orion Prometheus December 27, 2019Simply amazing!
From the staff, to the ceremonies, to the food, to the grounds, in Soltara one can feel the love, dedication, and integrity and what they stand for. They truly live up to their name (Soltara comes from the Spanish word "soltar" which means to let go) for they are a healing center and I would go further into saying that this magical place is more like a hospital for the Body, Spirit, and Mind. Before selecting Soltara I researched many other centers that offer plant medicine but they seemed a bit too crowded and I was just not ready to go to the other side of the planet to be feeling stuffed with 80+ other strangers. Of course, nothing against other centers but the small group in Soltara, around 17, made me feel comfortable and at ease for large crowds can overwhelm me. Please do not take my word for it and do your own research and if my review can help then I've done my part. I definitely recommend Soltara and I most definitely will be returning to them in the near future. Blessings.
James Green December 27, 2019Wonderful healing center
My partner and I spent a week at the Soltara healing center and had a really beautiful time. We had four ceremonies and felt very well cared for before, during and after each one. The quad rooms were clean and spacious with amazing views, and the food was simple, healthy and delicious. The Soltara team were attentive when they needed to be, and also gave us space and time to reflect. We bonded with the other guests (around 18 in total) and shared some very profound experiences together. It was a week of deep personal work, facilitated perfectly by the Soltara team. A truly transformative week :)
Tariq Imam December 20, 2019Amazing experience
A beautiful retreat, managed by beautiful staff who did such a good job in supporting us individually and as a group. Genuinely impressive people who really care about the work they’re doing. If you feel the call, then I would thoroughly recommend Soltara. Thank you for such a positive, profound experience!
Boris Nikolovski December 17, 2019What beautiful people
I came into soltara slightly fearful of what to come. But by the end of the first ceremony I knew in my heart they were all there to help us heal. The kindness I recieved from the entire staff I cant even encapsulate in words. The experience was tough for me but it always led to an unfolding of pure beauty. I fully recommend anyone use Soltara they are great. Thank you again guys. Much love, Boris. Also my god is the compound gorgeous.
Skippy Mesirow December 15, 2019Life changing and affirming
The Soltara experience was phenomenal, years of therapy delivered in a week, wrapped in a bow of connection, love, and intention. I will forever be grateful. Thank you to Tod, Sasha, Jocelyn, Jamie, Lilliana, Halley, and of course the Maestros. Beautiful.
Shubeeh Imam December 15, 2019Unrivalled
Just finished another amazing 2-week retreat at Soltara. This place is something else. From visiting other centres in the past, Soltara just gets everything so right. Have never eaten such tasty meals whilst on the ayahuasca diet. Facilities are second to none (pool, beach, deluxe rooms with balconies, ac, fans, hot water) and exactly what you need to recuperate during the retreat. Above all, the team of facilitators and the best I’ve ever worked with. Professional, knowledgable, compassionate and always on hand to help. The programme is organised perfectly. All the information you need aswell as plenty of time to relax. The focus on integration is something that also stands out, something that has been lacking from other retreat destinations. Too marks!!! Well done guys and eternal gratitude ????????
Ollie Ollie Ollie December 08, 2019Limitless
This was the most amazing experience I have had. The value from which will benefit me, my closest and all that come into contact with me. The facilitators were fantastic and catered for our every need and were always on hand for support and advice. This will help me grow both personally and professionally and I recommend this to anyone that is looking to resolve personal issues, questions and develop beyond expectations. Respect and gratitude. Liviu Luca November 24, 2019Just incredible
Soltara is an amazing place, that really has it all. The views are breath-taking, the accomodation is great(comfort, cleanliness, ammenities), the food is out of this world(thank you, Jessie and the team), the facilitators are incredibly caring and have made this scary experience into a breeze and were available for support at any time, and the last but not least, the Maestros, my healers, they really are magical. My experience with ayahuasca was amazing and I grew a lot from it, and I will take all of the learnings back into the real world and thrive. Thank you, Soltara!
Francesca Barone November 21, 2019There are no possible words- just go here
Soltara Healing Center is the most unbelievable, awe-inspiring, life-changing retreat center I could ever imagine. There truly are no words to convey the amount of incredible care, intuitive detail, endless passion, genuine empathy, and pure love that goes into absolutely every detail and aspect of Soltara's mission and experience. Every person there, every aspect of the facility, the property it lays on... all are beyond any expectation you could have. I cannot recommend a single piece of criticism or improvement for Soltara. If you are interested in extremely transformative healing, connecting with nature and your spirit, and taking a new step towards self-love and personal development, all I can say is do not hesitate-- just go here. Soltara is beyond expectation, beyond perfection, and the people working there are even more incredible than the retreat experience itself. You can completely let go, surrender, and transform in this space.
Jeffrey Patrick Gold November 13, 2019Soltara Retreat 3-10 November 2019
What a life-changing experience- I feel like a different person!! I l left with a new understanding, of myself, and a completely positive outlook on life. My perspective has shifted, 180 degrees. From the Maestros to the Facilitators, Staff and Property... simply the best! I highly recommend Soltara and hope to be back, very soon!! Thank you from the bottom of my heart!!
Lou Frino November 13, 2019Salvation at Soltara
A profoundly humbling transformative experience. Soltara surpassed all my expectations. A warm loving and nurturing environment in which one can truly let go. The team at Soltara are to be commended for the caring space they hold for each participant. These practitioners are at the forefront of the ayahuasca healing modality. I have no hesitation in recommending Soltara for anyone seeking transcendence..
Marc Allen November 12, 2019Gratitude
What an experience. The facilitation team was top-notch - extraordinarily gracious, insightful, and generous, focused on ensuring a safe and deep journey. They obviously care deeply and believe in what they are doing. This process has been amazing and I am still in awe as it keeps evolving even after I've left. Deep gratitude for having had this opportunity. Also, Costa Rica is beautiful and the Soltara facility is a great place to focus and do the hard work. In hindsight I wish that I had communicated more directly with the healers, but that's mainly on me. The healers were warm and generous, and their icaros have stuck with me, which is wonderful.
Vivecca Schmerler November 11, 2019It should not be called Soltara, it should be called soul recycling center
This whole experience was life changing, or life recycling. You take all your trash with you and you change it into something beautiful. I'm a new person, no doubt. Before coming to Soltara, I did much research and I think I went to the exact right place and with the exact people. I felt so taken care of, I felt loved, I felt I matter. Thank you all for being so loving and caring, thank you Jaymie, Erica,Liliana my sweet friend you are so wise and compassionate, Todd even though God made you very tall your body still not big enough to contain the amount of kindness and compassion the exist in you, you are indeed a giant. Maestra Marina and Maestro Teobaldo, our healers, you are both angels,no doubt in my mind, thank you for pouring your love and holding my hand while caring my soul like a gentle mother and a strong loving father, I never knew such selflessness and love existed. I'm forever thankful for all of you
Kevin Harden November 10, 2019Transformative
Gracious Hosts. Amazing Accommodations. Incredible views and beach front property. Once in a lifetime experience, that you can repeat anytime!
Neelam October 04, 2019A safe, professional and authentic place for your journey
I was blown away at the beauty of Soltara. It's in the middle of the rainforest surrounded by nature, ocean and wildlife. The staff were very experienced and professional, they helped me every step of the way. For me safety and experience were paramount and Soltara delivered on these fronts. The Shamans were very authentic and powerful. Ayahuasca opens you up to the spiritual realm, and I can say I felt very safe in the care of these Shamans. We had about 20 people in our group and almost 90% of them had deep journeys. I wasn’t able to connect deeply but I would definitely go back to Soltara to try again. I think it’s important to share that not everyone has a deep experience and it's best not to have too many expectations going in. The facilitators have been so supportive in helping me integrate and understand my journey. I also get weekly integration emails that share tools and tips that help me process my experience. I would highly recommend Soltara to anyone looking to embark on an Ayahuasca journey. They have created such a professional, comfortable and authentic experience and are committed to helping you heal and integrate. You're in great hands with this this team! I hope I get a chance to go again and connect deeper with Ayahuasca... that would make this a 5 star experience!!!
Andrew King September 25, 2019Soltara Experience
I booked Soltara last minute (the week prior) and am still revelling in the after glow. I have been back three weeks. I can't speak to what others can expect from the plant (my experience was life changing) but everything within Soltara's control is first rate. The group bus ride to the centre is a great way to casually get to know the group. Ours was a nice size of around 17 people. There is a nice schedule of mandatory and optional group sessions which are informative and enlightening. A good balance with more than enough time to swim in the ocean. The staff genuinely cares. When I was purging (aka vomiting) I noticed a facilitator out of the corner of my eye approach and crouch down to ensure I was ok. There is no judgement or airs of spiritual superiority from anyone: whether you have been on your spiritual journey for years or are a businessman having an existential crisis (like me lol) they can relate. If you need someone to talk to they are available anytime...literally. The yoga is great with hands on support for different skill levels. Food was healthy and ample. I can't recommend the place enough. For me I wasn't ready to go into the deep dark jungle of Peru for my first experience. Costa Rica is a nice intro. The plant isn't for everyone. There are highs and lows but coming out of it it really feels like a hero's journey. And this was a great place to do it.
Wesley Greenwood September 05, 2019Incredible journey of personal growth
I received so much from attending the retreat at Soltara. First off, the facility and location is excellent. They provide comfortable rooms to sleep in with stellar views, great fresh foods to eat, and a number of beautiful areas to relax in. The ceremonial Maloka was magical and a really authentic place to have the ceremonies. And the healers and facilitators were absolutely supporting in every way possible. They truly have a gift for this work. Secondly, working with the plant medicine itself. It was a powerful experience for me. The medicine provided me with a deeper understanding of all the life lessons I have been going through up to the present day, leaving me With a really tangible feeling that it all had a purpose. I was given a deeper connection to myself, everyone and everything. It was such a schooling in spirituality, energy work and inter-connectivity of all beings, something which I had never experienced on this level before. If you are on the fence about doing ayahuasca, because you are unsure where to go, let this be the permission you required to do it. Visit Soltara, you won’t regret it
Lorna Liana September 03, 2019Knowledgeable & Experienced Core Staff with Years of Experience in Peru
What a wonderful Shipibo style plant medicine retreat experience Soltara ! What an immense joy to be in a psychedelic retreat where I felt like I was among peers, With whom I could enjoy high-level conversations like: “So what IS the difference, visually speaking, between black vine & cielo vine?” What I really loved about this retreat center was there a focus on healing grounded in the Shipibo indigenous paradigm, And commitment to Upholding a lineage based wisdom tradition. There was no whiff of “How can we transform as many lives as possible AND make a lot of money while doing so?” Which, sadly, I feel is an underlying driver in many ventures & providers That do not have a commitment to respecting culture or partnering with the indigenous, but rather focus on how ayahuasca can be used to “manifest what you want in life”. The core staff all have many years experience in Peru… I learned so much through my conversations with each person than when I was actually in Peru myself in the early 2000’s, largely because back then that they were way fewer western bridge-makers than there are now. We need our Western bridge-makers, they fulfill a much needed role. We need providers of ancestral medicines who truly care about what’s happening in the Amazon, who are knowledgeable about the plants, harm reduction & indigenous culture. If you wish to participate in a plant medicine retreat or ceremony as a customer, please DEMAND THIS. [+] ASK Your provider what their social responsibility program looks like. [+] ASK The people pouring you a powerful medicine that could profoundly transform your life and have lasting impacts on your Psychological emotional and spiritual well-being... [+] WHERE EXACTLY were you trained, by WHOM and for HOW MANY YEARS? 2-4 weeks of plant medicine dieta does not make a qualified shaman or facilitator. Only when you as a customer demand accountability & reciprocity to the indigenous Who shared this medicine with the world - will this industry become safer, more inclusive, and socially just. Haux Haux.
Mark Seis August 17, 2019Beautiful people, beautiful place.
Soltara is a divine place, where if you bring an open heart and a desire to heal, then you will find profound love, wisdom, and intelligence. From the healers, to the facilitators, to the staff, and to the groundskeepers, Soltara exemplifies the best humanity has to offer. Love to all!
Zara August 16, 2019Out of this world!
Soltara and the team are fantastic, everything about that place gave me confidence to face my experience with openness. The surroundings are beautiful which just makes it just so comfortable to process all that is occurring...Thank you Soltara...
Cidic Del Castillo August 11, 2019Speechless.
Everything about this facility and their staff exceeded any expectations I might've had... by far. From their user friendly website relieving any and all travel anxieties, to the post retreat following-ups educating you on integration and absolutely EVERYTHING in between that you can imagine is BEYOND magnificent. Words can't describe how grateful I am to have stumbled upon the cosmic gem that is Soltara. Don't take it from me, go and experience it for yourself. You deserve it.
Thivanka August 07, 2019Amazing experience!!!
This was my first Ayahuasca experience hence I was very nervous not knowing what to expect. People at Soltara were very professional and I felt safe every step of the way. I am so glad I went to Soltara. Amazing views from the room and star deck, well thought out diet plan, and a magnificent integration program. Highly recommended.
Heather Sosa July 28, 2019Soltara is the place to go!!
Soltara is a well organized and well constructed retreat. More importantly, the staff is superb. They make you feel welcome and safe, not to mention, they are all very knowledgeable. The food is fantastic and the scenery beautiful. The healers are authentic and care about the work they are doing! I can't say enough about Soltara and the wonderful experience that i had there. Highly recommend.
Kat Fetner July 07, 2019Pura Vida
Beautiful place, people, and experience. I will return someday.
Yelizaveta Lipina June 16, 2019Excellent experience!
I had such a great experience. Highly recommend to anyone who has a calling to try ayahuasca or is curious. Wasn’t sure what to expect but spending time in a little slice of paradise, eating super clean and connecting with the medicine was the best way I could have spent my time. The team was super kind and the ceremonies were super special. I will be back one day!
Herman Watson June 11, 2019Soltara
I recently completed a week long four ceremony ayahuasca retreat at Soltara. I have also attended a nine day retreat at The Temple of the Way of Light and I found Soltara to be consummate in every respect. I had worked with the maestra in Peru and her husband joined her for our retreat. They are powerful healers, a point of view shared by everyone with whom I spoke and I hope to work with them in the future. The meals were everything one could expect in such an environment or any environment for that matter. The staff at Soltara was impeccable and the two facilitators while commanding respect were very approachable and gave support and consultations throughout the week. The integration director was spot on as well as the integration therapist who has been leading an online integration circle with our group since the retreat. I’m going back to Soltara in November and I also have friends and family to whom I have already commended Soltara. For a retreat to be at this level of excellence after being open a year portends greater things and I believe it will become the gold standard in ayahuasca internationally. On a final note, Soltara is addressing the troubling issue of extractionism by bringing in healers from the Amazon Basin for a couple of months at a time rather than removing them from the local communities that they serve in the Amazon. I commend the owners of this facility for that and I highly recommend Soltara without reservation.
Megan Moore June 10, 2019Beautiful experience. Highly recommend. <3
I can not recommend Soltara highly enough if you are looking to experience and work with Ayahuasca. The property was beautiful - set high on the hilltop, with almost a 360 view of the surrounding area, making for beautiful sunrises and sunsets; access to a beach and hiking trail. There is ample area to explore and quiet spaces to reflect. The staff was, for a lack of a better term, amazing. The facilitators provided wonderful support throughout the whole experience, not just during ceremony. Throughout the entire week, the facilitators were always available to talk and answer questions. They also provided very detailed and helpful information in regards to the process and ceremonies, as well as valuable information for integration. The yin yoga sessions before ceremony were very beneficial as well. Whatever I say here won't do justice to the amount of love and support I felt from the team at Soltara. For me, working with plant medicine is always a vulnerable and raw experience. Knowing I was safe and supported throughout the entire week gave me peace of mind that allowed me to deeply open and focus on the things I needed to without worrying about being taken care of. Highly, highly recommend. I will be back! <3
Ernest Briganti June 10, 2019Working with the Shadow
It was the best week of my life. People from all over the world who in a few days have become one. The structure of the week and the staff are just perfect. I leave Soltara Healing Center as a new man in body, mind and spirit.
Blake champlin June 09, 2019Great place
My 3rd retreat and first at Soltara and first in over a decade. This place is amazing. The facilitators are fantastic at what they do. The accommodations are quality with great views and access to 2 beaches that didn’t get much traffic from the public. The food can be a little bland at times but that is ok and part of the diet. There is always good fruit to munch on except during certain hours on ceremony nights. You’re paying for the reputation, safety, and their knowledge of running ceremonies here as well as a piece of mind. You walk away with something new and incredible. I went on a treat with Dorian Yates. Dorian and all of the others that came for the retreat were fantastic people. We put ourselves in emotionally vulnerable positions in front of each other that created special bonds between all of us. If you and your retreat companions do the same thing, you will also make new bonds that will last a lifetime. It is well worth the effort to go one time in life.
Natasha Kingsbury June 04, 2019Blown away
This was my 13th time drinking ayahuasca and my first time at Soltara. I was blown away. From the travel getting there(easy flights, easy bus ride, beautiful ferry ride and a provided dieta lunch) to the resort style sleeping quarters and ocean front access for down time. I was deep in the jungle doing the hard, personal work with vacation comforts to recover and fully rest. I’ve never experienced a more organized, helpful and supportive staff. The tools and preparation they gave from start to finish made me wish my first experience had been as such. Everyone was given a “hero’s journal” that included tools for ceremony prep, integration, journal space, etc. The meals prepared were delicious and there was always water and fruit available throughout the day during the eating windows. We had a laundry day where our clothes were cleaned for us and returned that day as well as our rooms cleaned everyday. The ceremonies themselves were held in the traditional Shipibo way and there was never a time I felt alone, helpless or unsafe. I really can’t recommend a healing center more. I will be referring Soltara to anyone who asks me and I definitely will be going back anytime the medicine calls. Thank you to the incredible staff who are clearly there for the right reasons. Nothing but gratitude????
Talyn Fiore May 17, 2019I would go again tomorrow if I could!
Soltara was a life changing experience for me. The most unexpected part was how close I became with the facilitators and other guests. I walked away with a a whole new family, that I will cherish forever. The Ayahuasca itself is such a beautifully hard and blissful experience. I recommend it ten fold to anyone wanting to really do the work and receive the reward of what that entails. But Soltara did a beautiful job at facilitating it. They eased us in and I always felt safe and supported. That is VERY important when working with the plant medicine. The facility and food were incredible too! I was afraid for no sugar, salt or caffeine all week but Jesse crushed the menu every day! So thankful for this week with you guys XO
Josie Grouse April 13, 2019The BEST Plant Medicine EXPERIENCE
Just finished my 7-day retreat at Soltara. It's been a life-transforming experience, beyond all expectations. It was important for me to feel safe and trust the expertise of the amazing, hard-working staff. My deepest gratitude to facilitators, and the shamans for their dedication to plant medicine in such a powerful way. If you are considering to have an Ayahuasca ceremony, Soltara is THE PLACE to do it. You are in good hands. The resort is beautiful, food incredible, and you get to look at the magical night sky from the star deck every night! Will be back, for sure.
Taylor Morisette March 29, 2019Paradise and Transformation
Gratitude for the team at Soltara for cultivating a beautiful space for positive change to occur. Our experience there was incredibly inspiring and unforgettable. Thank you to everyone who has played a role in creating transformational opportunities for us and raising the vibration of collective consciousness!
Ivona Luketic February 26, 2019Best week of my life so far!
Soltara Team, Thank you!! The week at Soltara from the 13.01.2019 was the best week of my life so far. Life-changing would be the best way to describe it. It was a lot of exhausting work but oh, so worth it! What i learned was way more than what I could have ever expected or imagined. The medicine, the staff, the grounds, the group of peole i met there - everything came together to provide a very safe and supportive environment to go within and heal. A big shout-out to the shipibo maestros americo & angela, they are out of this world- and the facilitators! kendra, scott, you are incredible. Also a big thank you to carolina you are such a gorgeous soul and an inspirational woman, you gave me hope. If anyone is stuck in their spiritual journey and life on this planet, feel like they are not getting anywhere in life, or are struggling with some deep personal issues (or really, anyone at all), this is the place for you. I really believe everybody should make this experience!
Amadeus Grossi February 18, 2019Thank you Soltara for what was a life changing experience!
I do not usually write reviews, if I am being honest, but I felt that I would be doing an injustice by not taking the time to write this one. Anyway, thank you to the facilitators and everyone at Soltara who made my experience what it was. I am so grateful. Apart from the healing that took place between the medicine and myself, you guys did such a great job in making this retreat complete as a whole. First of all, the retreat centre is beautiful. I could tell as soon as I arrived that someone had put their heart into this place, and that was a running theme with everything throughout my stay. The facilitators really made it their top priority to make themselves available to us in any way possible. They were really good at helping me understand everything and feel comfortable with what I was doing, which, being my first ayahuasca experience, really helped me feel solid about my decision. Also, any questions I had about what came up during my ceremonies, they were great at answering in a way which empowered me to find my answer, which is what this whole journey is about. Also, the itinerary was so well thought out. The way they organized everything really helped me (and everyone else) move through the week with ease. They don't just take your money, throw you in the deep end with some plant medicine that you know nothing about (besides a few articles and youtube videos, lol), and then leave it up to you to figure out the rest... It was clear that they had mapped everything out for a specific reason, and that reason was for us to get the most out of our experience. I won't go into much detail about this, I'll just say to let the experience unfold and trust that Soltara and crew know what they are doing. And I appreciate the big effort they put into helping everyone integrate what we experienced into our lives. Trust me, when going back and forth from this plant/spirit world to everyday reality, this is important! I should also mention that the food was awesome. The chefs are really talented and creative, and when you are eating food that excludes the use of salt and sugars, and basically everything that I am used to (maybe even addicted to, lol) it really helps! Also, every day's menu is put together in a certain way, once again to help you connect with the medicine as much as possible. Lastly, the medicine itself. I was a bit unsure at first if everything I read online was true, and that this wasn't some hoax or placebo effect that everyone was just hyping up. Long story short, it really proved me wrong, LOL. Again, I won't go into details, as this experience will be unique and personal to every individual. All I can say is I got what I needed to learn from it. Thank you again to the medicine and to Soltara for a life changing experience.

What a wonderful place this is. The beautiful souls that guide you here during your journey , so gentle and loving, so respectful to the process. The individual approach and genuine concern is so re securing and gently removes the fear and nervousness. The healers, amazing. The rooms are very comfortable, with an amazing view of the ocean and sunrises. The feels are so rustic and close to nature without distractions except for the billions of stars you can watch on the stardeck . And maybe the jungle noises :) The heart of it all, the Maloca is a beauty. Feels like two warm arms wrapped around you. Two individual beaches are close by , just to watch the waves or swim. The food is made with love and you can taste that. Especially the bliss balls. Something different every day. If you have special needs or you don’t like cilantro, they will make something else or adjust it for you. And than the integration program and aftercare. Follow up when you are back home. So important and so needed. Soltara radiates love and care and if I could give more than 5 stars I would. I know I will be back here. So so grateful !

A healing center in the true sense. Focused on the positive experience and well being of the participants ! We were a small group ( 13) and we all got the attention and supportive care that was needed through this extra ordinary experience. Ayahuasca at its best in a beautiful and serene setting Authentic Shipibo healers and tradition for the mind, body and soul in a very safe space
Fatty Bear February 07, 2019A fantastic journey with professional team
Soltara’s team was very impressive for me, upon arrival, I was amazed by the view and the surrounding energy, the whole process was not as I expected since I’ve had several ayahuasca ceremonies before, it gave me so many enlightened messages in a very unexpected way, a very surprising way, that showed my way, revealed to me what is the next to do, what not to do. I sincerely wish everyone who is seeking enlightenment or the biggest truth of oneself to have the chance to drink ayahuasca, it’s beyond life-changing. Come here, to Soltara, with Mother Nature under the stunning night sky, you’ll know who you really are.

If you're looking for an authentic ayahuasca experience run by kind, incredible people who truly understand and honor the process, come to Soltara. If you're looking to experience this surrounded by some of the most gorgeous, breathtaking scenery on the planet, come to Soltara. If you're not sure WHAT you're looking for, but believe plant medicine could be the next step in your healing, come to Soltara. This is a magical place. I cannot say enough great things about it. It is worth every penny and more. Making the trip there is one of the best decisions I've ever made in my life. Everything from the accommodations to the stunning natural surroundings to the menu to the activities they offered to the ceremonies themselves was incredible, and clearly designed with true healing in mind. There is a perfect balance of modern conveniences (U.S.-friendly outlets! A gorgeous swimming pool!) with natural immersion (the center itself is tucked away on high hills, surrounded by hiking trails through the jungle and two separate beaches, each about a ten-minute walk down the hill.) I encourage you to look through the photos from the center, and then know that the views are even more dazzling and rejuvenating in person. The medicine itself is powerful and pure, and you are allowed to decide how much of it you want to take each ceremony. And the staff are incredible guides throughout the process. Everyone there is so open, kind, and inviting, and so obviously there for the right reasons. They understand the hard work and intention and multiple steps involved in healing, and are so supportive and insightful every step of the way. This was my first experience with plant medicine and they helped calm my initial nerves, work through what I experienced, and let me know that I wasn't alone--that there was a community of people who could listen and understand and share their perspectives. I'm so grateful to every single person I interacted with there, from the shamans to the facilitators to my fellow retreat-mates. I also loved the little trips they scheduled on off days. The boat tour to Isla Tortuga and around the Gulf of Nicoya was an absolute highlight--you get to snorkel, see an island full of monkeys, AND get some free time on the beach (and more!) Every single aspect of this retreat was better than I could have ever dreamed of. If you are even starting to entertain the idea of taking an ayahuasca retreat, I strongly urge you to support Soltara. They are working hard because they want to fundamentally change lives for the better, and they're doing just that, the right way. It's also a compelling reason to visit one of the most naturally beautiful places on Earth, to reconnect to both the planet and to yourself.

Where do I truly begin? The week I spent at Soltara center truly changed my life for the better. Words can not adequately express the beautiful ceremonies that took place there. Their absolute commitment to respecting ancient cultures is truly amazing. The ceremonies were ran by real shaman who grew up immersed in the original culture that they are a part of that date back to the beginning of time. The staff there are all experienced with plant medicine and ensure your experience is healing and authentic. Their commitment to integration is un paralleled. The accomadations are top notch and ensure you have the creature comforts you are familiar with ( wi fi and AC). Their meals are 100 percent organic and sourced locally and prepared by top chefs. THE VIEWS are jaw droppingly amazing. I have met life time friends there and watched amazing people grow and heal. It was an absolute perfect experience and one I shall never forget. I wish I could give them 100 stars.

Soltara healing center was a dream come true. I can’t thank them enough for the truly life changing experience I had (and I don’t say that lightly!). Everything exceeded my expectations, from the amazing facilitators, shamans, pasajeros, staff and our guest, Dr. Joe Tafur. From the very first moment I emailed soltara showing interest in the retreat, I received nothing but the most thoughtful and caring attention. Then, arriving at soltara, I was transported to the most expansive and beautiful facility in the jungle and within that, the safest and most nurturing container of community. Before, during and after ceremony were all moments of transformation. There is always someone to support and help you if you’re going through a hard time. My first ceremony was quite intense and challenging, but with the unconditional and personalized support of the staff, I journeyed into the most powerful remaining 3 ceremonies, downloading messages and lessons to so many questions I came with. Everything clicked. They also created a journal to help guide us through our healing process and I couldn’t imagine going through that week without it! Plus, the food was heavenly :) I recommend soltara to anyone that is curious about the medicine and finding one of the most supportive and loving groups of people to do the challenging yet life changing work of healing and letting go. So much gratitude for the opportunity <3

Waking up every morning to a view of the ocean each morning set the tone for another restorative day. Every single staff member was sweet and attentive, I felt genuinely cared for and I am so grateful to them for their kindness! They were knowledgeable and intentional in every interaction. I went with my boyfriend, but had I been by myself I would have felt equally safe and comfortable. I will be back. ps. the food was excellent

I had never been to a retreat before. Part of it was, of course, that most of the retreats are in remote areas, in the middle of nowhere, that are not only very hard to access, but also have, in a way, harsh conditions that I am just really not up for. This place was none of that, except well, maybe in a bit of a remote area, far enough to where you get privacy and can actually see the stars, but close enough to where if something happens to you and you have to go to, say a clinic, you can. I had an amazing retreat with the most wondeful group of people. I´ll start by saying the infrastrucuture of the place is absolutly beautiful, the rooms are spacious and have an amazing view of the ocean and the mountains, the dinning and pool area also have amazing views and great architectural details, and the Maloka is big and comfortable. (I personally suggest spending at least one night here, it´s very nice with the jungle noises and the breeze). The place is also at a walking distance from the beach and has a couple trails that are perfect for cross country if you are into running at all. Now, the people, faccilitators and staff, were wonderful, absolutly wonderful people. They worked really hard throughout the week and you can tell they put all of their heart into it. The staff is also super friendly, the chefs are amazing cooks and its very admirable to see the awesome dishes they come up with given the seasoning and ingridient restrictions. Although we did not share a lot with the cleaning staff, they seem very sweet and all the areas always looked on the spot. Like I said, this was my first time in a retreat, so I havent really experienced other places, but this place sets the bar really high. Thank you guys for everything!
Anders Munch Holm July 15, 2018This is for you <3
This is the first class ayahuasca experience. Leave the tarantulas and the riverwater toilets in Peru and come to Costa Rica to enjoy the same authentic ceremonies with real shipipo shamans. Feel free to relax in the pool or take a trail to the beach ten minutes away. Enjoy the ocean view from the star deck. Or retreat to your room for wifi and air con. The food is excellent, the staff is some of the sweetest people you'll ever meet and you'll be in good hands throughout your stay. It's not even that expensive. And flying to Costa Rica is much cheaper than flying to South America. My dear friend, I recommend Soltara with all my heart <3
Tony P July 14, 2018Perfect in every way!
After going to Peru 4 times for Aya retreats I decided to try somewhere new, and I am so glad that I did! There is no comparison between the dirt, inescapable heat and bugs of the jungle in Peru, and the total comfort found at Soltara. The rooms are very clean and comfortable with A/C and beautiful strong hot showers, the beds are super comfortable too. The facilities also include a swimming pool and a short walk down to your choice of two beaches where you can swim or just relax the day away. Most importantly though are the people who work there. The facilitators are some of the most wonderful, caring and compassionate people that I have ever had the pleasure to meet. They are there for you anytime that you need them for anything. I cannot say enough about how much love these amazing souls showed toward every guest. They all seem to have been born to do this work, and they really seem to enjoy it. The chef makes eating healthy so delicious that I have been inspired to change my eating habits at home and try to emulate what I learned from my meals there. My retreat included a midweek boat tour of the surrounding area to see the local wildlife, and to go snorkeling with tons of beautiful tropical fish followed by lunch served beach-side on a nearby island. There was also a nature hike that was well rewarded at the end with a swim under a waterfall that nature has carved out of rock on the side of a mountain. The ceremonies are magical! The medicine is brewed in the traditional Shipibo manner without any of the additional, sometimes dangerous plants that some centers use. The brew at Soltara only contains Ayahuasca and Chacruna, these are the only plants that are needed to insure that you have an amazing life improving experience. I loved Soltara and everything about it! I have found a new home away from home and I will return.
