Kranti Yoga is delighted to offer this 300 hour YTTC. Join us in Patnem for this 4 week course that brings together Yin Yoga and Vinyasa Flow. This course is our advanced YTTC certification. It is for those students who have already graduated in any Yoga Alliance registered 200 hrs YTTC and would like to deepen practice and develop new skills as a teacher
Doasist practice of Yin and Yang which is based on opposing qualities of nature. Ashtanga Yoga is an active practice; Yin Yoga is therefore passive. If we think of the muscles as being yang and the connective tissues as being yin, the practice of Yin Yoga targets the less pliable parts of the body bringing about better flexibility and joint mobility. And so, a combination of Yin Yoga and Vinyasa Flow is a highly successful way to advance both your practice and that of your students.
The course runs in conjunction with our 300 hour Vinyasa Flow Course and some modules will be taught together. The course is taught in a fun, progressive manner bringing together Eastern practices and contemporary thought. Modules will include the following:
These classes will take place on alternate days throughout the course. The commentary will detail the anatomical features of the postures and corresponding impact on the energetic flow throughout the subtle body. Students will becomeaware of the energetic shifts that happen in the subtle body, developing a mindful meditative practice.
These classes will take place on alternate days throughout the course. Each class will have a technical focus that will work towards a peak posture. Classes will incorporate stretching and strengthening techniques. Peak postures could include Kurmasana (Superficial Back Line,) Eka Pada Raj Kapotasana (Superficial Front Line,) Chaturanga Dandasana (Front and Back Arm Lines), Hanumanasana (Spiral Line.) We will also explore the myofascial connections for advanced postures such as Eka Pada Koundinyasa II and Vastisthasana. These classes have been designed to challenge your practice on both a physical and spiritual level whilst observing and accepting limitations to practice.
This will take place each morning following Yin Yoga or Vinyasa Flow. Each week, new pranayama techniques will be explored. Meditation techniques will include Mantra Chanting, Affirmations and Beach Meditation.
In this class, students will explore the alignment of over 30 Yin Yoga postures. Students will learn how to alignand modify the postures, looking at how to use props to maximize the potential of the postures.This class will provide a forum to explore the differences between Western anatomy and the subtle body.
Students will learn how to sequence and teach a lesson with integrity. The commentary that accompanies a successful Yin Yoga Class is crucial. Students will learn how to build a commentary and will be encouraged to know the details of the postures in order that they can develop the correct vocabulary and dialogue. This will include instructions to enter and exit the posture, benefits of the posture, anatomical information, the flow of energy and the subtle body.
This module will include a review of the skeletal muscular system from the 200 hr YTTC curriculum. It will provide the fundamentals to understanding the anatomy of fascia. Students will review origin, insertion, functionality and physiology of muscles. This module will look in detail at the anatomy of the shoulder and the importance of building shoulder stability to support your Vinyasa Flow practice. The Anatomy Theory Classes will take place during the first week and then knowledge will be applied for the duration of the course. Yin Yoga and Vinyasa Flow provide great opportunities to secure anatomical understanding through practice.
These classes will focus on the fascial connections throughout the body, looking at the function of the fascia and dealing with the body in totality. This is the anatomy of fascia. Students will compare traditional anatomy with contemporary thinking, considering how this applies to the practice of Yin Yoga and Vinyasa Flow. Studies will include mapping of the Superficial Front, Back and Side Lines; the Superficial Front and Back Arm Lines; the Spiral Lines. The module will provide an exploration of strength and flexibility for the fascial body. Students will understand the importance of bio-tensegrity and how to maintain the body’s natural tensile structure when preparing a Yin Yoga Class.
Students will learn the science of stretching and strengthening. Techniques will include PNF, Active Release and Trigger Point Yoga. The fascial connections within the body get sticky, bringing about stiffness. This prevents access to postures. Stretching and strengthening techniques can help break down adhesions and promote better hydration of the body. This can have a positive effect on range of motion and mobility. Yin Yoga itself is a great example of this. These classes will take place in a workshop format.
Students will explore what takes place in the energetic body. This includes the study of the meridian lines, chakras and the 5 elements according to the Daoist approach to Yin Yoga.
Students will explore the fundamental concepts of The Yoga Sutras. This module will guide students to explore different translations and interpretations, looking at how the commentaries have evolved throughout the ages. The module will include debate on how the mind has evolved over time and what Patanjali hoped to achieve through this text. Alongside this, students will explore the concept of Daoism and how this applies to Yin Yoga.
This module will provide insight into this Vedic approach to medicine, the science of life. Students will be introduced to the doshas to determine their Ayurvedic constitution (body type): vata, pitta or kapha. Vata is air. Pitta is fire. Kapha is earth. Students will be encouraged to make lifestyle choices in accordance with body type. This module is closely linked in with Yoga Philosophy, making reference to the Samkhya Philosophy and the dualist concept of Purusha and Prakriti in yoga.
There are scheduled weekly evening activities. These can include Moonlight/Candlelight/Om Meditation, Yoga Movies, Hindu Mythology Story Time, Moonlight Flow, Local Festivals and Japa Yoga.
