Spiritual Practices in the Third Act

About us

How does the contemplative life – one of prayer and encountering God – shape one for wisdom and resiliency in the second half of life? Looking at wisdom and resiliency as markers for facing the beauty and pain of getting older, this course addresses aspects of aging that require an “elegant kenosis” – letting go in the midst of embracing the life that God has given. Learning through awareness of God, others, and self lays the foundation for the spiritual practices.

Last year we explored topics such as intentionality, paradox/mystery, hope, community, gratitude, forgiveness, love and generativity. This year we will build on these topics with fresh practices, using The Gift of Years by Joan Chittister as a conversational resource.

Each session will include:

Centering time

Community time

Offering/Teaching time

Practice time

Participants are invited to read

Why Retreat?

We asked people why they go on retreat, here's what they said:

To drop deep into the practices and connect with my true nature... Alison

Retreat Guru's Vision

We believe human beings are innately wise, strong and kind. This wisdom, although not always experienced, is always present. Going on retreat is a beautiful way to reconnect to our basic sanity and health. Our aspiration at Retreat Guru is to inspire people to experience authentic retreats and reconnect with their innate wisdom, strength and kindness.
