About this Retreat

Details of this retreat

Bufo Alvarius, a recognized ancestral medicine obtained from the gland of the toad that inhabits Northern Mexico, is appreciated in alternative medicine practices for its high efficacy in treating addictions as well as harmful emotional and behavioral patterns. Kambo, on the other hand, a medicine popularly known as 'natural vaccine', comes from the skin secretions of the Phyllomedusa bicolor, a tree frog that inhabits the Amazon rainforest. Its application induces a deep cleansing of the body and soul, strengthening the immune system.

Retreat
I recently got back from the Ayahuasca/Bufo/Kambo four-day intensive at La Hacienda and what an experience! Feeling a lot of gratitude towards Sara, Antonio, and all the warm, wonderful staff here.

This was my third time staying here. I have found the beautiful setting, and intuitive and trustworthy guides to be the ideal place to experience the different plant medicines. The people involved with these processes have the utmost integrity, and for sure have my trust. The medicine itself will have different effects on different people, but for me, they have been nothing short of life-affirming and transformative.

Food is prepared with love, and is delicious. It's not always a rigid, clock-work schedule, but I appreciated the flexibility for my stay, including adding an additional night and ceremony. Rooms are clean and great. Maybe one of the best showers of my life lol.

For me, this place is a sanctuary I will return to as needed throughout the rest of my life.

Detox / Medicinal
I booked this detox because it was the only one I could find that was more than a week. I was originally looking for a water only fast but decided to do this detox. I was very disappointed because there was little coordination for the group. There were only a few of us attending. It felt like the focus was more on "medicine" than on anything else. I was hoping to also find the spiritual aspect of the detox but the circumstances were anything but spiritual. There are some amazing people who collaborate and do an amazing job in their roles. However, the complete lack of planning, the lack of communication to allow participants to be prepared, and the lack of ownership for what is required and needed for the retreat was apparent in every aspect of the process. I asked several times what was needed to be prepared before the trip but no one ever replied. I should have been told that we needed our own enema bags and sets to use over 8 enema flushes, that was never mentioned (I assumed it was be natural, not via enema). The swimming pool was not clean and the Jacuzzi was empty. They did offer us the use of the laundry facilities which was nice, considering I was unprepared for the events that were part of the process. Supplies for the process had to be requested, they did not offer or check.

The location is very beautiful but needs maintenance. Coordinators should not be letting individuals dictate the process if they are the professionals. We have to understand the process and allow, not bend to the desires of others who are participating. It would have been more beneficial if the coordinators knew the background of the individuals to be prepared for whatever each individual needed. Instead, they tried to group everyone together without understanding their needs/preferences in order to be prepared.

We were offered a free bufo experience in order to compensate for the disruptive manner that things were handled. That was a very thoughtful gesture on the behalf of the coordinator, however, the fact that some people were there for detox and not "medicine" was completely overlooked. The up-sell of "medicine" was the focus of the detox (that is how it felt to me) but was not my desire as I have a different view on those processes. I am okay that they offer them but it is not okay to not communicate nor offer any type of information regarding the process and everything that it would entail. I may have opted not to do this detox had I known how it was being administered.

It was uncomfortable because the group complained daily but never stood up for what they were complaining about. It was a very sad circumstance because it could have been much more spiritually centered and beneficial.

Transformative
Hard to put in words how transformative of an experience this was. When they say let go of expectations and resistance I thought I knew what that meant but I had a lot to learn.

Patience, trust and surrender were some of my teachings and were nothing like the intentions I set at the start but they were the lessons I had to learn.

Sara, Sofia and Rene were all lovely and conducted each ceremony with so much love and care. The food was incredible and the jungle and all its animals (spider monkeys, salamanders, birds etc) were a pleasant surprise throughout and in between ceremonies.

Forever grateful for this experience.

Incredible, Amazing, Fantastic!
My experience was incredible in every way that La Hacienda could control. It’s hard to control flight schedules of planes, but even that can be appreciated.
When I had a headache Sara providing incredible support and adjustment and I wasn’t the only one that adjustments were made for. Her, the staff, and La Hacienda were and are incredible hosts/guides. Talented gurus, guides, medicine experts. The cultural experience covered so much…music, food, language, exercise, history, spiritual instruction and guidance, medicine knowledge and insight, and powerful healing practices and opportunities.

Absolutely beautiful 😍❤️😍
This place and the people there are really special! I felt so cared for. I went in a little scared but trusting the process and myself that it was right for me and it was everything I could have hoped for and more! Sara and Renee were the two facilitators and each facilitated different plant medicines. They both have very strong, clean centered energy and wisdom. This medicine is not to be taken lightly and preparation and intention is very important. Not everyone in my group was prepared and not everyone had a positive experience. For me, there was a lot of emotional and physical release. It's hard to describe for one who has an experienced it, but with the medicine, I felt grateful for all of it even when I was vomiting. The natural beauty and all of the cool animals also shaped my experience. I saw dozens and dozens of monkeys and a few capybara and scorpions and really cool lizards and birds. I spent hours laying in a hammock watching the monkeys. This place connected me back to myself and gave me a love for life that I have lacked for most of my life. 💖💖💖
