Weekly Wednesday San Pedro Ceremony

About This Event

Our weekly Wednesday San Pedro ceremony is held in a beautiful location just outside of Pisaq in the Sacred Valley of the Incas.  The ceremony is open to people starting out on their medicine path as well as those with more experience. We offer professional, nurturing support on your healing journey with this beautiful heart opening medicine.

Weekly San Pedro Ceremony at Hummingbird Retreat Pisaq

Paul & Suzanne host regular San Pedro ceremonies, usually on Wednesday of each week – please see our website calendar for the current schedule. Ceremonies are held in our beautiful home and garden; amongst the terraces of vegetables, herbs, fruits, flowers and the sacred Huachuma plants. The garden has been created with areas where people can gather together, or have time alone, and enjoy the stunning views of the Sacred Valley and surrounding mountains, the hummingbirds, and one’s own inner energetic space.

Our intention for holding ceremonies is to create a space of healing, personal reflection, and conscious awareness; where each person feels safe and comfortable, and has the opportunity to fully immerse themselves in this heart-centred medicine, and to experience their own consciousness in a new and profound way.

On the day of the ceremony we gather at 8:30 am and share tea before beginning the ceremony at 9:30 am.  The ceremony lasts between ten to twelve hours. In the early evening we provide a home-cooked vegetarian meal and yummy dessert. There is the opportunity to sit around the fire and share a gentle closing space together.

We suggest that you book a room for the evening as it offers a softer ending to your experience or there is the option of heading back to town for the night after the ceremony.

The morning following the ceremony, after some world-class Peruvian coffee or organic herbal teas from the garden, Paul and Suzanne are available to support participants in their integration process.

DETAILS:

Ceremony Day: Please arrive close to 8:30 am, catch your breath, meet the other participants and sip some tea before we begin the ceremony around 9:30 am.

If you are intending to come and participate in ceremony, please let us know by 9am the day before, so that we can make the appropriate amount of medicine and food.

What to bring: Water, snacks, layered clothing (it can get very warm and very cold), something to sit on, sun protection; hat, glasses, sun block; flashlight, and maybe your sacred talisman or crystal. Mostly, bring an open-heart and a willingness to ‘show up’ and embrace the medicine.

      Retreat Resplendence!

In 2016 I visited Hummingbird retreat and in 2018 I returned to attend a week long Huchuma retreat. I was one of five people sharing this amazing experience. Suzanne and Paul are fantastic facilitators, with an effective philosophy to help one develop the tools to manage one's own mental and emotional challenges. Both are incredibly experienced, grounded and easy to talk to, offering practical advice. Their wonderful mix of psychology, meditation, knowledge of being and life experience mixed with this ancient plant medicine is perfect for people coming from a western background. I have enjoyed the experience of many single ceremonies, but to do an intensive program allows one to go deeper into one's process. The week was a really great balance of structure and freedom. There was three ceremonies, group and private integration sessions, convivial meals and impromptu activities. An impromptu 5 rhythms dance hosted by Sue was a super fun way to spend an afternoon. We were also lucky enough to participate in Paul's workshop in preparing the medicine with Cactus grown at the retreat. The accommodation was incredible. I stayed in a beautiful casita fully equipped with a kitchen and bathroom with the best hot water I have experienced in Peru! It was so great to have my own private space during my stay and the attention to detail in the lodgings makes for a truly comfortable stay. All this is set in a most beautiful garden with magical views of the Sacred Valley. The food provided at the retreat is fantastic. Healthy, delicious and luxurious and mostly made from local produce. The dinners, desserts, chicha morada and tea during ceremony days are a delectable accompaniment to an extraordinary experience. The several-course-breakfasts prepared post ceremony are fresh, healthy, delicious and sumptuously satisfying with homemade bread and spoils from the gorgeous garden. Thanks again Paul & Sue!

      Friendly Staff and Beautiful Environment

The Retreat grounds are like a botanical garden full of beautiful roses and many other varieties of flowers. The ceremony space was perfect. Paul with a heart of gold created a safe place to be yourself and heal through the sacred medicine. Paul has a wonderful laugh that is from his heart, he is kind and wise. Post ceremony I did a transpersonal counseling and energy session with Suzanne. She is first class I would highly recommend doing some work with her. Did I forget to mention to food? Delicious yum. Everyone was clean too. I spent 3 nights and plan to return again. I have run and managed a Ayurveda and Yoga Retreat center in Florida for the past 18 years and I have to say that Paul and Suzanne have done a amazing job. It was like home and It felt like family. A sacred place that helped me to remember to live from my heart and soul.

      Healing

I suggest coming here. Our stay here was deeply healing, honest, and caring. Suzanne and Paul are such lovely people, and Suzanne's love and guidance through our ceremonies helped us to remain open to the Learning. Suzanne paid a lot of attention to what was needed, and we always felt supported; and also always with Paul's presence in their amazing garden. The garden, and nearby mountains, are an incredible vista to be part of. Suzanne reinvigorated my realisation of the the importance of nourishing food and the food here was truly nourishing and delicious. I feel deeply healed by my time with Suzanne and Paul, and I whole heartedly recommend those looking to work on themselves to come here. 100/100

      Strong Medicine / Strong Love

The retreat location is beautiful and overflowing with flowers and hummingbirds everywhere, and it's quiet and peaceful. Paul was very welcoming and informative. I've worked with Grandfather San Pedro before, many times, and this has been the first time that I went so deep that throughout the journey, there were no words, just heartfelt feeling and emotion. Which is a very good thing and for me was very healing. I believe I could only do that because I could sense and trust that the medicine was well-made (San Pedro and loving intentions poured in) and Paul came from such a space of love and respect for the medicine and his guests. I really love the way the ceremony unfolds - each of us were able to be with Grandfather San Pedro and quiet within ourselves for the entire day going into the evening. And once we had shared our intentions and drunk the medicine, we were free to experience our own personal journeys without having to interact with anyone, if that is what we wanted. I've experienced other styles, and prefer this way of journeying with Grandfather. I felt so cared for during the day, as Paul is very serious about his commitment to sharing San Pedro, and supporting his guests to have the best experiences. He was very loving and attentive. His in-depth knowledge and experience with the medicine really shows, and apparently he always drinks the medicine when holding a ceremony, so he is present in an even more intuitive manner as a result. I appreciate that! The food was also amazing! Hot ginger tea and other herbal teas were offered throughout the day, some popcorn in the afternoon. And Paul and Sue poured so much love into the evening meal - veggie soup, freshly-made bread, and a truly delectable dessert of warm spiced peaches from the garden topped with homemade gelato. I glanced over at Sue tending the soup, and I could literally see the love pouring into the soup (that type of thing does happen when in the medicine, and it's lovely to witness). Truly, we were eating "love". We stayed overnight, which I highly recommend, as you tend to still be in the medicine going into the evening and it's nice to be able to stay peacefully in the ceremony space. The next morning, there was an integration session with both Paul and Sue, and both offered helpful insights and were very affirmative of everyone's experiences. Breakfast was so delightful - lovingly prepared, beautifully presented, and delicious. I felt so pampered, and treated like I was the most special person on the planet - thank you again Sue for your loving attention and delicious offerings. This is THE retreat center that I'll be going back to for San Pedro ceremonies - I can trust the good medicine, I can trust the good hearts and love of Paul and Sue, I can trust that they will be attentive and helpful all throughout the day, and I can revel in the beauty of a lovingly-tended space abounding in nature. Highly recommend!

      Absolutely Beautiful

I would highly recommend this space to anyone looking for a safe, transformative, and authentic experience. This was my first time in Peru, and this was the most beautiful place I could have ended up. These facilitators put such deep love and commitment in to everything that they do. And they will help you have a wonderful stay. They have deep roots set down in to the community as well, so you know that your money is going to stay in that community and help. Absolutely 100% recommend for anyone. You will be blown away at the superb care put in to this place. Not to mention the lovely animals and plants that have made this their home. You will feel at home. I hope to one day return to this place. Happy journeys ♥

Lovely space, and so much love!

The space that Paul and Sue hold at Hummingbird is truly something special. The love that they've cultivated radiates through every piece of their beautiful home. I felt welcomed into a new sort of family that I'll cherish forever and I hope to be back some day! I really appreciated the approach that they took here. They don't present themselves as shamans thay will heal you, but rather, as facilitators that will open and hold the space for you to do your own healing. "A healer is not someone you go to for healing. A healer is someone that triggers within you, your own ability to heal yourself." I cannot recommend this place enough. If you end up here, you'll be in the best hands and will leave hoping you didn't have to. Plus, if the work itself doesn't make you want to come back, at least their homemade bread and ice cream definitely will! Thank you guys for all the love!

      Panacea in Paradise

I've visited Hummingbird retreat 3 times now and am thinking about retuning next year as well. I feel incredibly lucky to have found this place because it provides a truly transformative experience. Sue's and Paul's history and wisdom both with the medicine and healing creates a powerful and caring atmosphere to explore one's self and/or personal difficulties, be it of the body, mind or spirit. There are few places in the world where you can experience this level of care and receptivity in a relaxed, informal way. I had tried Huachuma (San Pedro) before coming to Hummingbird Retreat, but I had never experienced it in the depth I was able to with Sue and Paul. Before trying it, the concept of this medicine can carry a little fear and apprehension and there is no safer place to explore it. Now I see what an interesting and profound tool it can be for overcoming life difficulties. Along with the wonderful ceremonies, the beautiful self-contained cabin accommodation, situated in a lovely garden setting has stunning vistas of mountains and the charming town of Pisac not far away. The food, icecream and tea alone is worth returning for. Whether you are a new-comer to Huachuma and personal development or a seasoned campaigner, I highly recommend Hummingbird Retreat. A truly magical place created by truly magical people for a truly magical experience. Thanks again Sue and Paul. I hope to see you again soon.

      Absolutely exceptional

I can't express clearly enough the gratitude and blessings I feel from the San Pedro ceremony I was a part of here. Paul and Suzanne opened their home and hearts in the most genuine way. I arrived the day before the ceremony to be a part of making the medicine, to meet Paul and Sue and be introduced to the space. From this moment I knew I was in the right place, and can't say enough positive things about the way the ceremonies are conducted here. Paul and Sue are experienced wth plant medicine and both have incredible touch leading ceremonies - giving space when needed, and providing encouragement and support as appropriate. I felt so at home in their presence. I would recommend Hummigbird to anyone interested in San Pedro one hundred times over.

If Only I had More Time in Peru.....

I was referred to Hummingbird Retreat by a dear friend, and I am so grateful that I was able to spend a day with Paul, Sue, My Sister, New Friends, and of course The Cactus. The brew that they serve is strong, but not over the top. Most evident in my experience was the warmth, acceptance and incredibly loving field that is created by Paul and Sue. Often times when the field is full of love, it can be a bit 'mushy.' Besides holding a loving space, Paul and Sue are also available to work with you on the deeper matters at hand. I've always been told that Huachuma is a heart opening plant medicine, and boy did my heart open that day. I shed some deep tears that day, and became aware of some deeply held beliefs. I can honestly say that without Paul and Sue's assistance my experience would not have been nearly as effective. I did some of the most effective and heart connected processing I ever that day with them. I can not emphasize enough how relaxed, supported and safe I felt there. Overall, I feel like the cactus is quite a safe medicine, I've personally never heard a Huachuma horror story. But, your experience is still dependent on your mindset going in and the environment you drink in. If you want a deep, loving, supportive, heartening and profound experience, spend some time at Hummingbird Retreat. My only regret is that I did not know of them sooner. I will certainly be back with the intent of opening, accepting and loving more. My deepest gratitude to Paul and Sue. I almost forgot to mention THE FOOD!!!! My God, So Delicious!! Blessing on your journey reader. Of the many people I drank plant medicine with in Peru, I am most drawn to work again with these 2 incredible beings.

      A place I found myself

“Being in the care of Sue and Paul at Hummingbird Retreat, with their years of experience and loving, insightful and gentle guidance allowed me to find my true self, to feel the ease of being able to be myself and release a lifetime of baggage and protective habits. This has fundamentally changed how I live and what I look for in life. It has made me happier and while I may not always achieve the same peace, I know what it feels like now and I found my reference point with Sue and Paul. Thank you, thank you!.”

      Recent Trip

I recently spent 3 weeks at the Hummingbird Retreat and the acid test for me was did I depart a better, more well balanced person with a new perspective on life? The answer was a resounding yes. Sue and Paul run a high quality service where your personal wellbeing and progression is their utmost priority. In saying that if you are looking for the easy, sugar coated experience where your ego is stroked then Hummingbird Retreat is not the answer. If however you are prepared to work hard and genuinely address the issues/challenges you are facing in your life whilst being expertly guided and supported by Sue and Paul then I highly recommend Hummingbird Retreat. The location is stunning where you cannot help but relax and Sue is a sensational cook. Paul - Sydney, Australia

      Dear Brother...

Dear Brother it is a true honour to listen to the words of wisdom & applied knowledge you share. Those that listen/feel with the heart will be well-guided by your peaceful strength. Being in your presence and feeling your connection is a blessing. Going out on a mountain trip with you is always a highlight…

Many blessings to all the beautiful souls that live/work in the center...

I can still remember very clearly walking through the door of the Hummingbird Retreat for the first time and feeling like I was coming home. A space full of beauty & wonders, Sue & Paul have co-created a space in which everyone can receive what they come for. To me, the Center feels like the womb of Mother Earth or the Garden of Eden. All that you will experience will help you to open-up to the magic, love and fun of who you are and what life has to offer. There is no need to go anywhere else… as they also run the best restaurant in the Andes with only one table ;) I highly recommend staying here for a retreat. Many blessings to all the beautiful souls that live/work in the center.

Heart opening, safe & supported, beautiful ceremonies

I joined Paul and Sue twice for a Huachuma ceremony, and was impressed by their genuine care, love and support. The house and garden are most beautiful, a manifestation of their intention of bringing true healing. Groups are always small, and both Sue and Paul are very present before, during and after ceremony to support you with whatever comes up. After having spent quite a few weeks in the Sacred Valley this is the one place I can wholeheartedly recommend to anyone.

      Lovely & Supportive!

I am blessed to have met Paul who embodies everything I respect in someone who works in this ‘space’ with plant medicines. Quietly unassuming, Paul brings a wonderful energy to plant ceremonies. His affinity with the plants, respect and understanding of the local culture and heritage and his own presence itself all make for the ideal ‘host’ when in ceremony. A sense of trust was immediately instilled during the ceremonies – it was clear he is here and doing this work for the right reasons. A great guy, a gentle & supportive soul, with a heavenly voice and cooks a killer bean dish to boot!

Everything the Adventurous Spirit could wish for!

Hummingbird Retreat in Peru is everything the adventurous Spirit could wish for. The space itself is divine; encapsulating all the cultural aspects of the region from the local materials & design used in the buildings, the plants, the food and of course Sue & Paul themselves – being ideal hosts! I spent 4 weeks at Hummingbird Retreat; being fortunate to enjoy and be challenged by many great adventures into my inner landscape. A highlight of my time there was experiencing the wonders of working with plants! I was unfamiliar with plant medicines before I stayed here and Sue & Paul provided the perfect environment to for this experience – safe, supported, private, comfortable and trustworthy! I would highly recommend this retreat to anyone wishing to experience culture, looking to do profound personal work or healing and/or have an adventurous itch to scratch!

      Amazing teacher

I had the blessing of spending 5 months of my journey with Paul. He is a heart-centered lovely man, who shares his wisdom and knowledge with care. He has spent a significant amount of time in India and spent time teaching me some mantras-which have been a very useful tool since leaving Peru and returning to the outer world. He has worked with Huachuma for many many years and holds a very beautiful space during ceremony. I always felt loved and cared for. I recommend doing ceremony with Paul, to anyone interested in doing a huachuma ceremony. Hummingbird retreat is a beautiful space-serene and tranquil.

      Amazing Space

I was Blessed to spend 5 months doing some amazing inner work with Suzanne and Paul at Hummingbird Retreat. It is such an amazing Space-with a beautiful view and gorgeous garden. The guest house is quaint and private, and has a beautiful balcony with an amazing view. I felt really supported and loved during my time here and would recommend it to anyone who is seeking to connect more deeply with themselves, in a safe, comforting environment.

      A place to find yourself

I was on the back end of a 6 month solo travelling trip around the world when my feet took me to this retreat, to be the last place before i returned home. After the hectic nature of the trip up to that point the retreat served as a most exceptional place for me to take some time to sit and be with myself for a while. It served as a way for me to absorb everything i had experienced as well as a way for me to prepare for my return back to my old life. The setting, an easy walk from the village of Pisaq nestled in the sacred valley is stunning every time you look at it. The hosts, Sue and Paul, are experience spiritual workers and their work with San Pedro ceremonies is truly something to experience. I cannot wait to find my way back to this retreat in the near future and to work further with Sue and Paul.

A peaceful, grounding force to guide you on your healing journey

I am honoured to have been held, guided and assisted on my personal journey of growth by Paul over the past four years. He is incredibly peaceful, with a huge heart, yet has a strength and presence that allows you to go more deeply and further into your own journey of healing. Paul is a gifted Maestro of the San Pedro (Huachuma) plant medicine and I highly recommend him to anyone considering this way of working.

A flowering oasis for healing, transformation and deep soul connection

Nestled at the base of Apu Linli amongst the corn and quinoa fields of Pisac, Hummingbird Retreat Peru is a beautiful, comfortable and safe place for a transformative and deeply healing journey of self discovery. Whether you are there for a day, or lucky enough to be staying on, your hosts Paul and Sue really look after you. The gardens are exquisite, with loads of flowers, fragrant herbs and fresh vegetables...and their food is naturally divine. The retreat is perfectly positioned near town, but also away from town. It is a quiet, peaceful sanctuary. I've travelled to the retreat from Australia many times and can't wait to be there again. If you are on a journey of self discovery, I highly recommend Hummingbird Retreat Peru as a place for healing, transformation and deep soul connection.

Paul is a lovely holder of the medicine

I did a ceremony with paul in peru at a pre-incan ruin in the beautiful blazing sun. It was my first experience and it was fantastic. Paul has spent decades in ashram's in India and it shows. He is wonderful and calm and knows how to gently hold the space of medicine. I can very highly recommend him for anyone who wants to do spiritual or healing work with huachuma.

Thank you!

We're glad you've joined our retreat community. See you around :)

Why Retreat?

We asked people why they go on retreat, here's what they said:

I teach yoga part time and am a mom of two toddlers full time. I love my life, but goodness do I need a break. My husband and I have been putting off our wedding ceremony for 4 years because life has gotten in the way. We haven't had a single night alone since our family has grown. I wouldn't change a thing about our lives now, but it would be so wonderful to remember what it's like to 'just be us.' Antrim

Retreat Guru's Vision

We believe human beings are innately wise, strong and kind. This wisdom, although not always experienced, is always present. Going on retreat is a beautiful way to reconnect to our basic sanity and health. Our aspiration at Retreat Guru is to inspire people to experience authentic retreats and reconnect with their innate wisdom, strength and kindness.
