Happiness and Joy on the Path of Awakening
About This Event
This Insight Dialogue retreat will be an experiential inquiry into the seven factors of awakening, with a particular focus on the importance of joy, both as a fruit of practice but also as the path itself. The Buddha’s teachings often emphasize suffering, hunger, clinging and relinquishment, which can seem rather austere. What is the true place of joy on this path of awakening?
In this Insight Dialogue meditation retreat, we will explore happiness and joy at their very root; we will investigate together the internal conditions that block our deepest happiness as well as those conditions that allow for the emergence of a joyful tranquility and release that are not dependent on outer circumstances.
Insight Dialogue (ID) is an interpersonal meditation form, based in the Vipassana tradition. In ID, we extend our solitary meditation into a carefully guided practice of meditation in speaking and listening with others. This retreat will be an introduction to ID for some and an opportunity for others to deepen their practice. More information about Insight Dialogue can be found at (contact info blocked). The retreat will be held in Noble Silence except for the Insight Dialogue sessions. We will alternate periods of silent meditation practice, contemplation in dialogue, mindful movement and time in nature.
NOTE: An ongoing meditation/mindfulness practice and previous retreat experience is requested for participation in this retreat. If you have questions about the suitability of retreat for you, please feel free to email Nic at (contact info blocked) or Sharon at (contact info blocked).
