200-hour WildYoga Teacher Training

About us

A one-of-a-kind advanced yoga teacher training program that integrates a focus on asana practice, meditation, pranayama, Ayurveda, yoga philosophy, and anatomy with the opportunity for deep connection to the natural world.

Offered in the stunning, sacred landscapes in and around Yosemite National Park, the WildYoga Teacher Training invites us to deepen our understanding of yoga and nature, and to share this with the world by becoming a Yoga Alliance certified instructor.

A key aspect that differentiates WildYoga is the integration of the natural world with our yoga practice, and a focus on yoga as a powerful form of environmental stewardship. Re-connect to yourself in the clarity of the outdoors, be inspired by the wilderness, and gain extensive knowledge to carry with you into your community and life at home! 

The WildYoga program is perfect for:

2018-2019 Schedule and Logistics Information:

Balanced Rock’s 200-hour WildYoga Teacher Training is a comprehensive learning experience spanning 6 months. This allows time to integrate the concepts between sessions. Modules can also be taken stand-alone. 

October 1-7, 2018 | Yosemite Yoga Intensive: Experiencing the 5-Elements.
November 2-4, 2018 | Earth Element: Teaching from a grounded & supported place.
December 7-9, 2018 | Water Element: Fluidity & adaptability in teaching.
January 4-6, 2019 | Fire Element: Discernment and precision in teaching.
February 1-3, 2019 | Air Element: Teaching from the heart.
March 1-3, 2019 | Space Element: Tapping into source for your voice.

Each of the modules will be unique as we deepen our relationship with the 5-Elements through our yoga practice, in our bodies, and by the planet that sustains us. In October we will have seven days together to explore each element in-depth while receiving substantial asana and pranayama practice from faculty. November through March we will break-down and review the elements one by one and create ample opportunity for student teaching. 

Payment & Pre-requisites

Course tuition: $2,700 for full program ($2,500 if purchased by August 31, 2018)
Stand alone 7-Day Intensive (Oct 2018): $995 ($945 if purchased by Aug 31, 2018)
Stand-alone weekends (Nov 2018-Mar 2019): $375 

Tuition assistance is available. Payment plans are available for a small additional administrative fee. Please email info@balancedrock.org or call (209) 379-9453 if you would like to arrange a payment plan.

Space is limited. Advance course registration required. Full payment or an initial deposit of $350 will reserve your spot. Full payment is due before the course begins on October 1st, 2018 unless otherwise negotiated.  Please review our cancelation and payment policy.

Food and accommodation are not included in the course tuition. Students are responsible for making their own arrangements. Please see our accommodation recommendations and feel free to contact us with questions. 

At least one year of regular yoga practice is recommended as a pre-requisite.

Balanced Rock integrates the wonder of the natural world with the beauty of humanity through reflection, yoga and adventure. I am nearly complete with my 200 hour Yoga teacher training through BR and I am consistently impressed with the level of time and attention this organization puts into developing teachers and longtime learners of yoga and life. ~P.J. Event Highlights

  • Curriculum:
  • Asana: We will break down, analyze and practice standing poses, reclined poses, and key poses for a grounding yoga class.
  • Pranayama: We will explore and discuss breath awareness vs breath regulation. We will practice and teach abdominal breathing.
  • Philosophy: We will read and discuss selected Yoga Sutras and review the question: What does yoga mean to you?
  • Anatomy: We will review muscles and bones of the feet and legs, and their importance as the foundation of a yoga practice.
  • Student teaching: Students will begin teaching each other through one-on-one and small group exercises. We will discuss ahimsa (non-violence) in giving and receiving feedback on your teaching.

Venue Highlights

Our staff and instructors are a fun group of inspired mountain adventurers who have honed their skills living and loving life in connection with wilderness. Accomplished musicians, artists, naturalists, yogis, healers, chefs, and free-spirits Balanced Rock instructors have a knack for making people feel super safe and comfortable in the mountains. We strive to help people feel capable and competent in their own selves in the wilderness through our competent, attentive guidance.

Schedule

General Schedule:

Friday 6:00pm-9:00pm
Please arrive having eaten dinner as we begin with an asana practice at 6:30pm.

Saturday 6:30am-9:00pm
We will allow at least one hour for lunch and two hours for dinner.

Sunday 6:30am-4:00pm
We will allow at least one hour for lunch.

*Please note, once you are registered we will send you a more specific schedule via email. We generally take one outdoor field trip (weather permitting) per weekend, while the other full day is spent in the studio environment.

Menu/Cuisine

Students are responsible for their own food throughout these weekends. There
are many restaurants within walking distance, as well as one large grocery store and
one medium sized health food store in town. Sometimes students self-organize to create
and share meals. There is a refrigerator, sink, microwave, and hot water kettle at Studio
M Yoga for your use. Please bring your own dishes, utensils, and anything else you need
for your own food preparation. Balanced Rock will provide tea throughout the weekend.

Accommodations

This will be our first WildYoga Teacher Training weekend based out of Studio M Yoga, in Mariposa, CA. This beautiful studio (started by a WildYoga graduate) is where we will get grounded and tap into the support of the instructors, the student community and the ancient wisdom of yoga. The Earth Element teaches us to slow down, trust in our foundation, take time for self-care, and root down through our feet. It is the perfect place from which to begin teaching yoga as a new instructor!

Please note:

Accommodation is not included in the tuition for weekends. Students are
responsible for making their own accommodation arrangements. We have some
recommendations for where you can stay close by so please contact us with questions.

*Please note there is no wifi at the studio,
however there is good cellular reception
for most carriers, and wifi available
elsewhere in town.

Arriving in Mariposa from the west (Hwy 140 from Merced) or the south (Hwy 49S)
take a left onto 5th street right at the beginning of town.
Arriving in Mariposa from the east (Hwy
140 from Yosemite), or the north (Hwy
49N) drive through town, and after
passing the block of historical buildings,
take a right turn onto 5th street.

We encourage carpooling if at all possible!
All participant contact info will be available on
a google doc so you can coordinate rides
amongst yourselves. Public transportation
is available to Mariposa from San
Francisco and Oakland via the BART train,
Amtrak, and the YARTS bus. Ask us for
details or support if interested!
