About This Event

Inspired by the Feldenkrais Method, Learning to Listen is a unique and innovative approach to personal development. This Immersion is about learning somatic tools for pleasure, ease and clarity in how you move, how you think and how you navigate your life. This includes Awareness Through Movement (Feldenkrais) lessons, breathing exercises, somatic movement, hands-on partner work, deep listening, group observation and discussion.

This program is for anyone wanting to feel more ease and efficiency in their movements – from a yoga practice to desk job, athletics to manual labor, to chasing kids or just walking down the street. It is especially potent for those going through physical or emotional transition, rehabilitating physical or emotional injuries (low-back pain, chronic fatigue, stress management etc), working with clients in a healing modality or simply ready to embark on a deep and often surprising journey of self-discovery.

It is open to all ages, shapes and sizes, backgrounds, interests and fitness levels and no movement experience is necessary!

We have found the work to be particularly useful for career development for:

Yoga Teachers and Practitioners - by learning fresh, new ways to approach their practice and teaching

Bodyworkers - by improving sensitivity, kinesthetic awareness and understanding of Functional Anatomy

Life/Wellness Coaches and Counselors - by using Somatic Movement as a valuable mind-body-integration tool for their clients

We will develop our sensory awareness through  movement , observation, visualization, deep listening and touch and yet the program is not solely about exploring the body.  As we develop our felt-sense understanding of our triggers, habits and reactions we learn how to use awareness in all parts of life and in our relationships with ourselves, our loved ones, students, clients and friends.

The Immersion is broken into 2 Modules which are layers rather than levels. Students must complete Module 1 to establish a clear foundation and  basic sensory vocabulary to be eligible to attend Module 2.

Module 1 Dec 3-7, 2018 (5 days, 9:30am-5pm) is an embodied learning web. We develop a basic understanding of our body as a system of relationships and interconnected parts. We begin to recognize and peel back deep layers of our postural habits, emotional reactions and compulsive thoughts.

Module 2 Dec 10-14, 2018 (5 days, 9:30am-6:30pm) is the integration process. From the foundation of Module 1 we begin to build our own movement/self-exploration/awareness practice and play with how to integrate it into our daily lives. This Module takes place at Om Waters, an off-grid, deep-nature, floating retreat center. The unique, serene retreat environment lends itself to peeling back the next layer of connecting to ourselves, without distractions of daily life.

"Om Waters is one of my favorite places on earth. Magical, transformative, serene, it will steal your heart and bring your soul to life!"
