About us

Playa Viva offers the rugged and unspoiled beauty of Mexico in the guilt-free luxury of an environmentally-conscious resort. Imagine waking to the soothing sound of waves and beginning your morning with group asana practice and a fresh farm-to-table meal. From there, the day is yours. Explore the surrounding nature with surfing, kayaking, hiking, snorkeling, horseback riding and more. In need of some relaxation? Spend the day at the spa or hanging in a hammock. Together we will connect with the locals, taking a tour of a working family farm and partaking in a group volunteer project to benefit the local community.

LOCATION:
Nestled between the sparkling waters of the Pacific Ocean and the majestic Sierra Madre Mountains, near the village of Juluchuca, Playa Viva is situated on a mile of pristine and private beach. The property’s nearly 200 acres include an estuary, Aztec archaeological site, turtle sanctuary, and a coastal forest and mangrove ecosystem supporting an array of stunning wildlife.

PRACTICE:
Multiple yoga, meditation, and workshop classes and experiences will be offered each day of the retreat. In the morning, we will wake up together to a strong and energizing 90-minute power vinyasa practice before transitioning into either a 2-hour afternoon workshop, or a soulful evening restorative session to close out the day. Incorporating natural themes and beauty such as sunrise, sunset, the oceans, tides, mountains, and native wildlife, these custom-built sessions will find you waking up and falling asleep feeling renewed, challenged, refreshed, and transformed each day. All levels of yoga practice are welcome, with classes designed to both motivate and support Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced students. Attendance at all classes is encouraged but always optional.

FOOD:
During our stay, we will dine on farm-to-table family-style meals inspired by local Mexican cuisine with a dash of international flare. Almost everything is made in-house, including fresh almond milk and homemade coconut oil. Playa Viva sources as much as possible from their own land, and works with local farmers who provide milk, cheese and eggs. Come pick your own salad fixings. Walk the nascent orchard filled with fresh pomegranates, mangoes, cashew nuts and pistachios.

LODGING:
Combining simple elegance with natural beauty and a commitment to improving the environment and the local community, Playa Viva is a sustainable boutique hotel. We will be staying amongst twelve EcoLuxury rooms each with a beachfront view, including the brand new oceanfront treehouse. All rooms are outfitted with luxurious locally-sourced organic sheets and towels, biodegradable organic soaps made on site, organic shampoo, lotion and conditioner in your private bathroom.
