Arrival by airplane
For those of you looking to cut your travel time short, there are exclusive charter flights from Bandaranaike International Colombo Airport (CMB) or Colombo to Batticaloa, a town located 146 kilometers up the coast from Arugam Bay. The flight would take just under one hour and we can arrange for you to be picked up by van from there and brought down without a hassle. Just let them know when you will be arriving.
Arrival by bus
Overnight buses run daily from Colombo to Akkaraipattu. There is a private luxury service that departs from Colombo at 8:30 p.m. and arrives in Akkaraipattu at 3:30 a.m. the next morning, a tuk-tuk will be available from Akkaraipattu to Pottuvil at that time. There is also a public bus that leaves Colombo at 10:30 p.m. and arrives directly in Pottuvil at 6:00 a.m.
Arrival by train
Ella is the closest town to Arugam Bay that can be reached by train. Expo-rail runs a luxury service daily from Colombo direct to Ella, a long day on the train but one is rewarded with some of the most breath-taking scenery the island has to offer. For those arriving from the hills, there is also a train that runs daily from Kandy (Peradeniya) to Ella. We are more than happy to arrange transport by van once you arrive from Ella to Arugam Bay. Ella is 132 kilometers away from Arugam Bay.

Why Retreat?

We asked people why they go on retreat, here's what they said:

I teach yoga part time and am a mom of two toddlers full time. I love my life, but goodness do I need a break. My husband and I have been putting off our wedding ceremony for 4 years because life has gotten in the way. We haven't had a single night alone since our family has grown. I wouldn't change a thing about our lives now, but it would be so wonderful to remember what it's like to 'just be us.' Antrim

Retreat Guru's Vision

We believe human beings are innately wise, strong and kind. This wisdom, although not always experienced, is always present. Going on retreat is a beautiful way to reconnect to our basic sanity and health. Our aspiration at Retreat Guru is to inspire people to experience authentic retreats and reconnect with their innate wisdom, strength and kindness.
