About This Event

Finding meaningful and enduring solutions to real-life problems demands engagement with multiple interests across many lines of difference. Bringing out the very best from a diverse group of individuals can be challenging, and requires a subtle mix of compassionate support, sensitivity and insight. The facilitation needed in such settings involves alchemy – part science, part art, perhaps even a dash of magic – to transform divergent viewpoints and competing interests into agreed upon solutions and alignment on next steps.

Identify and develop the core competencies required to allow groups to function at their best, collaborate effectively, and solve issues together. Join Julian Griggs, one of BC’s most gifted facilitators, as he guides participants through a three day intensive course that helps you identify why groups struggle and how to alter that dynamic, how to intervene effectively when needed, and how to empower groups to find solutions for the issues they face. With hands-on exercises and role-plays, plus examples from the participants themselves, this program is an excellent foundation for leaders, managers, third party interveners, agency staff responsible for engagement at the community level, or any team members whose success relies on effective collaboration and participatory decision making.

Alchemy of Group Facilitation will also be held on May 6-8. Julian Griggs will also be presenting Advanced Group Facilitation on Cortes Island with Michelle LeBaron on June 5-9.

Hollyhock definitely captured my heart. The food is wonderfully balanced and full of flavour. The garden is mesmerizing and the staff is always welcoming with a smile. Accommodation was comfortable and clean. There is something enchanting about this place that is calling me back ~ Monica G

Venue Highlights

Hollyhock sits on the traditional territories of the Klahoose, Tla’amin, Homalco Nations. We are committed to renewing our relationships with the First Nations peoples on whose territories we are guests.

Since 1982 Hollyhock has built upon the history of this land as a place of gathering, a pioneering homestead, and the site of an important human potential education centre. On this foundation of gathering, pioneering and learning, Hollyhock’s founders dreamed of creating a lifelong learning and leadership curriculum to inspire, nourish and support people intent on service to a better world.

Hollyhock became a not-for-profit in 2006 to strengthen carrying out our mission into the future. With your help we can keep this as a thriving centre for skill-building, lifelong learning and stewardship of the natural world, inspiring, nourishing and supporting people making the world better for another 30+ years.

Our healthy, organic, vegetarian fare features ingredients from our abundant gardens located just outside our kitchen door, and well as local BC foods.

Meals at Hollyhock are globally-inspired and prepared with love and skill in our Hollyhock kitchen. Enjoy weekly wild seafood dinners and beach-side oyster appetizer barbecues. We serve organic grains and organic produce sourced locally, whenever possible. Organic herbs, flowers, greens, and vegetables are harvested daily from the Hollyhock garden. Why Retreat?

We asked people why they go on retreat, here's what they said:

After having just completed my RYT 200 I have been inspired to further my yoga journey and my own personal journey inward. I have fallen in love with yoga and how it has changed my life and I just want to continue to explore so I can share this beautiful gift with as many as possible. Jessica
