Qigong taps into the natural, ever-present wisdom and vitality of our bodies and the cosmos, allowing us to direct Qi energy to wherever it is needed. Practice of qigong builds experiential awareness of that which gives life to life, physical, mental and spiritual: it erodes unconscious tension, increases energy and clears away energy blockages. Consistent practice is an invaluable asset in overcoming disease.
The word “qigong” is Chinese, but the arts of energy have been practiced since antiquity: by the Indians as “yoga,” the Tibetans as “wisdom art,” and the Egyptians and Greeks as “mystery art.” It is claimed that in physical terms the right practice of Qigong is superior to conventional exercise. Combining focused breathing and subtle meditative movements, practicing Qigong brings balance to our daily lives, restoring stress-filled bodies and settling anxious minds. It brings vigor to our zazen. In this retreat, we will study and practice selected exercises from the 18 Lohan Hands which teach us to summon the qualities of warrior-monk and poet. The retreat is open to those who have never practiced Qigong before as well as seasoned practitioners.
