"Day 3: Second day on the river
Today there is none of the usual, having slept under the stars we wake to the sight, smell and sound of this incredible expanse. Coffee and tea will help us crawl out of our sleeping bags and onto our mats where we will greet the day and our lives with a glorious yoga and meditation experience, as we will everyday for the next few days. We paddle around 14 kilometers today, rapids coloring the paddle with some challenge and excitement. The midday scorch will lead us to some shade where we can swim, graze and luxuriate. About This Event

6 nights. 4 nights on the River and 2 nights at base camp before and after. (a 7th day is necessary for travel from the river)

“It is in the wild places, where the edge of the earth meets the corners of the sky, the human spirit is fed”

Art Wolfe

That being said, this is an invitation to your wild (contact info blocked)Shaking up the spirit of adventure by combining rugged under the stars expedition style SUP (Stand Up Paddling) with yoga and guided meditation.

A never before kind of adventure covering 60 kilometers of the mighty Orange River, surrounded by one of the most striking landscapes Southern Africa has to offer. Imagine paddling 5 days (4 nights), on a freshwater SUP built for easy river paddling and cool rapid handling.

Your body free and lite on your own craft, the sun on your skin welcoming the wet, your focus shifted to the simple beauty of it all, and the excitement of navigating the water.

Waking up every morning to the open sky and long, slow yoga, followed by meditation for creating space within, and expanding your receptivity to life.

The 5 days on the water are at first a casual meander into a truly awesome environment and swiftly flow into a playful, expanded connection with your body, your mind and your (contact info blocked) whole self celebrating, perhaps even with a drink by the fireside.

This journey will serve as an interruption to your currently established thinking, feeling and being, the intention, to make space for the new and expand the range of what we consider possible for ourselves.

A connecting, celebrating, sexy, challenging, gritty, exploration into the wild within and the wild (contact info blocked) more the momentum of appreciation as fuel for inspired living.

This is yoga, meditation and personal expansion as part of a mini expedition style Stand Up Paddling adventure, we will be out in the elements for a full 4 nights and a half day, bathing in the river, taking everything we need along with us.

An unusual coming together of 'roughing it' paddling adventure and complete yoga with breathwork and deep meditation which can be perfectly balanced with many a hearty and varied lifestyle.  You may be yourself, as you are, and engage with everything yoga and the wild have to offer.  A wholly expansive experience, equally appreciated by the curious, the beginner and the more seasoned.

“And forget not that the earth delights to feel your bare feet and the winds long to play with your hair.”  Kahlil Gibran

Venue Highlights

Our venue is the Orange River, more specifically 50 to 60 kilometers of it from the South African border at Vioolsdrif into Namibia.
We will take four nights and 5 days to SUP the distance, an unplugged, under the stars yoga adventure to let the body and spirit soar.

Our base camp is Umkulu's Growcery Camp, proudly growing their own fresh organic produce. It's situated on the South African side of the Orange River which forms the border between South Africa and Namibia.
This is where we will meet the first day around 5pm, having spent most of the day travelling by road. We will sleep in the Growcery's rustic African style Chic Shacks tonight and on the night of our return only, the rest of the time we are sleeping under the stars.
Facilities at The Growcery include:
Pristine eco ablutions, hot and cold showers & flush toilets
Grassed campsites, permanent tents, chic shack units
Electricity, washing up facilities, braai/barbeque area
Safe parking and an incredible view of the Orange River
Catered meals on request
The Growcery shop (braai packs, wood, ice, alcoholic beverages, cold drinks, caps, t-shirts & Kikoi)
**Please note no credit card facilities or ATM at camp

We may enjoy fresh sun ripened fruits, delicious gluten free rusks, organic coffee/tea, almond/rice milk for breakfast, this will be the lightest meal of the day, and intentionally so.
Lunches will be something like salads and gluten free pasta's, some left over's from our meal the night before, fruit, nuts, that kind of thing.
Dinner will be cooked on open fire and may be either stew, barbecue(veg and/or meat) or something equally nourishing with good fresh produce.
Something often materializes for dessert.

Directions

The nearest airport is Cape Town, it is just under 700 kilometers from base camp. That's a travel time of 5 to 7 hours. Travel to the river depends on who and how many are coming from where, often a car pool/road trip takes shape beautifully. Transfer from Cape Town is not included in the cost of the adventure but we are very happy to help arrange your transport to and fro. If you are flying in to Cape Town we recommend you stay in CT overnight and be ready to leave by 10 am latest on the first day to meet around 5/6 pm at the Growcery Camp.
All directions and details will be provided.

Why Retreat?

We asked people why they go on retreat, here's what they said:

This sounds like a dream! I am an education student and I have spent way too much time working all summer to pay for school. My boyfriend of 5 years is a government firefighter and has been away working most of the summer. His 30th Birthday and our 6th anniversary is coming up this winter, we would love to celebrate with a yoga retreat! We both love yoga but have barley had time to practice in the past few months. Keeping our fingers crossed! Jaimee and Dan
