Self Health Care Retreat
- Mystica Lodge & Retreats
- Guanacaste Province, Tilaran, Costa Rica
- Apr 6 - 13, 2019 (8 days)
About This Event
Self-care is a full time job, yet many health care professionals are too busy navigating the needs of others, to attend to their own health. For one enriching week the tables will turn. Medical practitioners will retreat to the beautiful Pura Vidalandscape of Costa Rica to experience first-hand the unique gift and opportunity of enhancing health through self-care. We hope you return home refreshed, carrying with you a new set of low-tech high-yield tools for health.
The retreat is designed to be experiential and educational, to empower each of us to be better examples and teachers of self-care. We will delve into the powerful and restorative practices of yoga, meditation, nutrition, and energy medicine, meeting each person where they are. We will explore eight fundamental and prevalent obstacles to optimal health today and learn how to turn each of them into opportunities for healing.
In order to be sustainable, modern medicine must embrace the wisdom of the past, acknowledge the profound complexity and individuality of the human body, and work with (not against) its innate intelligence. We look forward to joining together with other health care professionals to share our collective wisdom and talents and to nourish and refresh our minds, bodies, and spirits in an incredible natural setting with tropical plants and the sounds of nature. Mystica (contact info blocked) nestled on the edge of the forest amongst rolling hills that overlook lake Arenal and its majestic Volcano.
The retreat will be lead by Heather Tallman Ruhm, MD (contact info blocked) (contact info blocked) experienced clinician and teacher who embraces a bioregulatory approach to medicine along with Skylar van Rossem, Holistic Nutritionist, Reiki Practitioner. Self-care energy workshops will be lead by Michelle Earnest, NP (contact info blocked) practitioner of Eden Energy Medicine and yoga will be lead by Lori (contact info blocked), professional counselor, integrative healing practitioner and yoga teacher.

AccommodationsThere are three different rooming options at Mystica.
Mystica's main lodge has 6 rooms, each with their own private bathroom. Each room, named after a local animal, is beautifully decorated combining a warm atmosphere with comfort and cleanliness. Because of the constant breeze and fresh tropical climate of the area, air conditioning is not necessary – however each room is supplied with a ceiling fan for added air circulation. The rooms also have screened windows for greater comfort. Mystica lodge rooms can be occupied singly or up to a maximum of four people. Each room has brand new mattresses to assure you a good night sleep, as well as Egyptian cotton sheets for maximum comfort.
Mystica has two Jungle Cabins tucked away in the forest overlooking the river. The cabins host a king bed or can have two single beds. The cabins include a covered terrace, and a private bathroom with a special semi-outdoor waterfall shower. Each room has walls completely made of glass, giving you an amazing view of the river, playful monkeys, and local birds such as tucans, parrots, and many more. The unique sensation in these cabins are one of both privacy and openness.
A few steps away from the lodge is a private fully-furnished villa. Perfect for a romantic getaway, this spacious dwelling has everything you need. This charming villa comes equipped with a full kitchen (stove, sink, fridge, coffee-maker, and all cookware), a tiled bathroom with a large shower, an outdoor shower, a fireplace, and a private terrace with a hammock and dinner table.
