INTRO TO MEDITATION
Meditation has been scientifically proven to boost the immune system, lower blood pressure, relieve depression, increase productivity, and induce creative thinking. Mindfulness, which has its roots in the teachings of the Buddha, has hit the mainstream: An NBC announcer has just written a book about it and teachers are gradually introducing it into our nation’s school systems. Now seems like a good time to check it out, right?
Through sitting and walking meditations, short talks, and time for sharing and discussion, this afternoon class will introduce you to the basics of Buddhist meditation. You do not need to be a Buddhist to attend or to derive great benefit from meditation. This course is suitable for all levels, from complete beginners to experienced practitioners.
Classes will be taught by a Tara Mandala Apprentice Teacher. This class will take place after the Tara Mandala Open House Tour and lunch. We encourage you to make a day of it by coming to the morning Open House as well.
Please plan to arrive by 2:00 pm. All visitors must sign in at the Tara Mandala Store. The class will start promptly at 2:30 pm and ends at 5:00 pm. There is no charge but online registration is required. See below for registration options. This class is free but if you’d like to offer the teacher a donation (dana), you may do so with cash or check (made payable to the teacher).
Optional suggested dana is a sliding scale of $5 – $20.
Note on dana: Dana is the Pali word for generosity. The teachers in our programs donate their time in service to the Dharma and only receive what retreatants offer at the end of each course. There will be an opportunity to make a dana offering at the end of class, but please know it is not required.

"One cannot force or grasp a spiritual experience, because it is as delicate as the whisper of the wind." - Lama Tsultrim Allione.
Venue HighlightsBordered by the San Juan National Forest and Southern Ute Tribal Land, Tara Mandala Retreat Center is on 700-acres of rolling hills and meadows adorned with many varieties of wildflowers, ponds, and forests. The land itself is a mandala with a stunning peak in the middle surrounded by four valleys. Retreat cabins are scattered across the landscape designed for deep retreat, and at its heart, is the extraordinary three-story Tara temple which celebrates the sacred feminine. The center has a Community Building, where residents and retreatants convene for meals, and other activities.
AccommodationsTara Mandala offers a large residence hall (Prajna Residence Hall) for luxurious accommodations. Rooms have single or double beds. Private or shared bathrooms are available. Toiletries and towels are not supplied, so it is recommended that retreatants please bring their own. Retreatants can stay in one of our two Dorm Yurts. These yurts house 8-10 beds. We also offer a large camp-ground, for those who want to get back to nature for their retreat accommodation. For those who are camping and staying in yurts, showers are available in the Community Building, a short walk away. There are plenty of cubicles in the bathrooms to store your toiletries and personal belongings.

It’s a very special place to participate in retreats, whichever! The whole surroundings of land and people living and working there makes it what it is , a place to learn, practice and live there and of course the presence of two Lamas . A chance to change in a positive way , even crusted staff has a chance to solve.
