About This Event

Accommodations at Wonderwell for this retreat are now very limited, and, since we do not place unrelated people of the opposite sex in the same room, you might get a message citing gender as an error for that room type. You are welcome to ask to be put on a waiting list by emailing the registrar at (contact info blocked). However, there are no guarantees that a room will be available. If you are considering the Commuter option, when you click on the “More Details” link, you will find  a list of nearby accommodations.

What sparks freedom of mind and how do we sustain freedom, once we experience a taste of it? In this weeklong meditation retreat, we will explore the unique practice methods found in the Mahamudra tradition that spark insight (vipashyana) into the heart-mind’s spacious, luminous, boundless and ever-abiding nature. We will especially explore the role of inquiry in catalyzing and stabilizing insight, within both the still and moving mind, to discover the inmost freedom at the heart of every experience. The retreat includes noble silence, a structured retreat schedule designed to maximize deepening in practice, periods of teaching and group meditation, and individual interviews with teachers.

This retreat is open to all persons, but preference for in-house accommodations will be given to those in Natural Dharma Fellowship’s Margha program.

Wonderwell Mountain Refuge strives to offer retreats in a manner that is non-cost prohibitive and inclusive to persons of all means. If the full retreat cost would create an undue financial burden, we encourage persons to apply for scholarship and work-study. Whether one needs to request aid to defer a large or small portion of the cost of a retreat so as not to incur a financial burden, we strive to accommodate you. This link will take you to information about our work-study and scholarship possibilities. Depending on the type of work that you do, you may be eligible for a Hemera Contemplative Fellowship. Why Retreat?

We asked people why they go on retreat, here's what they said:

My last retreat at SMC was so inspiring and so relaxing. But i'd love to have more time there to spend at the Stupa, visit the Kami shrine, and generally interact with the beautiful enlightened society happening on that entire land. Brett

Retreat Guru's Vision

We believe human beings are innately wise, strong and kind. This wisdom, although not always experienced, is always present. Going on retreat is a beautiful way to reconnect to our basic sanity and health. Our aspiration at Retreat Guru is to inspire people to experience authentic retreats and reconnect with their innate wisdom, strength and kindness.
