About This Event

Wampum-Neechi: Indigenous & Non-Indigenous Youth Experience

Wampum-Neechi is a project to bring 10 Indigenous and 10 non-Indigenous youth (entering grade 8-10 or ages 12-14) together over six days in the summer at Five Oaks to forge new friendships across cultures, enjoy summer days together, and learn about Indigenous (Haudenosaunee and Cree) history and cultural values.

Our vision is to bring these young people together in a creative, learning-enriched, fun and safe environment, where they will be continually engaged in activities, workshops and play. We will create a positive space for friendships to grow. These friendships will foster healthy dialogue, reconciliation and relationship building between Indigenous and non-Indigenous people.

The adventure will include:

A trip to the Kana:ta Village

Spending the day in Six Nations

Learn both Haudenosaunee and Cree songs

Learning about the Church’s role in residential schools and ongoing work towards reparations, healing and reconciliation

Rafting on the Grand River, swimming in the pool at Five Oaks and learning traditional arts, crafts and games.

Tuesday July 9 arrival 2:30 to 3:30pm, Sunday July 14th pickup 1:00 – 1:30pm

Why Retreat?

We asked people why they go on retreat, here's what they said:

Reconnecting with basic goodness in an environment of people who share a vision for a better society. Wimberly

Retreat Guru's Vision

We believe human beings are innately wise, strong and kind. This wisdom, although not always experienced, is always present. Going on retreat is a beautiful way to reconnect to our basic sanity and health. Our aspiration at Retreat Guru is to inspire people to experience authentic retreats and reconnect with their innate wisdom, strength and kindness.
