About This Event

This June, the venerated Ekai Korematsu Osho Roshi will join us for a special series of teachings on the practice of shikantaza. Roshi has been practicing and teaching within the Soto Zen school for over forty years. His knowledge, skill, and insight are directly evident in his every movement. We invite all of Gomde California’s students, as well as students training within the various esteemed Zen centers throughout California to attend our weekend of teaching and practice with this eminent master.

Furthermore, Roshi is a long-time visiting teacher to the Antioch/Carleton study abroad program in Bodh Gaya. Dozens of students who now practice and serve within the Gomde California and Rangjung Yeshe community have been profoundly influenced by his teachings. Therefore we are delighted to announce that Gomde California will host the West Coast Antioch/Carleton reunion on Sunday, June 9th, following Roshi’s teachings. If you are a part of the Antioch/Carleton reunion please register and select the “pay by check” option.  Add note you are an Antioch alumn for discount pricing for this retreat.   Please do not pay before discount has been applied.  We look forward to reuniting with, and newly meeting, former Antioch students from across the country.

“There are incredible dharma blessings in every particle of Gomde … Such a spot is very, very rare to encounter in the world. The environment itself brings a great deal of peace and blessings to meditators here.” – Dzigar Kongtrul Rinpoche

Venue Highlights

Gomde is located just off Highway 101 on the outskirts of the small town of Leggett, three and a half hours drive north of San Francisco. The beautiful Eel River winds through 250 acres of woodlands, meadows and bluffs, forming several very welcome swimming holes along its course. Peaceful walking trails meander through forests of fir, madrone, redwood and oak, opening onto stunning vistas of rugged beauty.

We offer Summer seminars with Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche, Dzigar Kongtrul Rinpoche, Jetsun Khandro Rinpoche, Phakchok Rinpoche and other beloved teachers. Gomde is also home to the Dharmachakara Translation Center, accredited through the Kathmandu University. DTC offers translator training and residencies.

During the summer, most of our guests stay in our beautiful campground. We offer quiet tent spaces and furnished tent cabins with easy access to our fully appointed bath house. We also offer limited accommodation in our River House, Gate House, Tara Cottage, and Retreat Hut, as well as dormitory style lodging in our Sangha House during the Winter months.
